please... This was announced and demoed BEFORE the Wiiu was announced. And if you want ANY true third party support for your Wiiu, you'd better hope that the Vita/PS3 combo give devs a good enough reason to bother making games of this kind. You people really don't understand how this actually helps you, do you...
Actually it should be the other way around. Vita and PS3 owners should hope this type of gaming takes off on the Wii U so that 3rd party publishers will do it on Sony's devices rather than just Sony. It will be much easier to persuade Wii U owners since every Wii U owner will be capable of this type of gameplay.
This type of gameplay needs a Vita and a PS3 which makes the potential customers much lower because you don't know exactly how many customers there are. You also run into issues like developers who may want to charge twice for the software, one for Vita and one for the PS3. Again that's a lot to ask and expect to become mainstream. There are simply more hurdles in place for Sony to benefit. We saw what happened with the Playstation Move and how niche that device was. Wonderful product (much like Vita) but hardly any software that really took advantage of it.
Hopefully this extra feature will be supported not only by first party titles but third party as well. I don't think this will happen though and will mirror the situation that the MOVE is in that regard (good first party support, no third party support(honorable exceptions: Portal w/ Move support and the upcoming Bioshock apparently will have Move controls built in)). The reason being parity, unless of course Surface takes off. Then third party publishers will have a feature that is usable across all three viable platforms (Wiiu - Gamepad PS3 - Vita Xbox - Controller w/ Surface).
There was also that leak/rumor (with pics!) awhile back about the controller for the Steambox having an integrated screen.
Notable games (released and upcoming) with move support: Beyond:two souls, Bioshock Infinite, Child of Eden, Counter strike: GO, Dust 514, Goldeneye 007: reloaded, Heavy Rain, Infamous 2/FOB, Killzone 3, LBP2/ SPM, MAG, MLB: the show, NBA 2k, Ninja Gaiden 3, No More Heroes, Portal 2, Resistance 3, RE 5: GE /UC /DC, Sly collection, Socom 4, socery, sports champions, the unfinished swan, Toy story 3, Tron, until dawn.
I consider this to be quite a good mix. there is literally something in there for everyone besides an RPG only player. I've had the option to use it on a suprising number of games I own and it can create an even more engaging experience when implemented properly.
I hope that the vita will at least see this many games with the option to use it as a second screen.
I don't think Surface will take off at all. Isn't it $500 for one of those things? And up? I think it was aimed more for corporate users. If you want to spend that much just buy an iPad.
Not Surface. The Microsoft tablet is called Surface. The Xbox tablet app is called SmartGlass and you can use it with any iOS, Android, or Windows phone/tablet.

What I mean is, do you need someone playing with you? I want to get it, but I don't have anyone to play with.
I'm talking about the packs of course, I'm sure the online created stages should be playable by one person.
