i just got it for free! NICE! went to the xbox marketplace through the halo 4 menu. didn't have to add funds just confirm the purchase for 0 MS Points.
someone mentioned below that you have to have the SPECIALIZATION PRIORITY code unlocked (for playing before 11/20) in order for it to show up for free.
I feel like the Collector's Edition was a waste of money actually...there just isn't extra content to warrant its purchase. Ah well, its too late now :(
Just to put this info where its more visible, I've confirmed you have to have specialization priority unlocked for this glitch to work. If you played before the 20th but haven't redeemed the code to unlock specializations yet, do so and the glitch will work for you. Microsoft should have sent you an email pertaining to a free "gift" without actually explaining what it is for some reason, so its somewhat easy to miss. Find it, redeem it, THEN start up the game.
Wow this is for real, you have to start up Halo 4 and click on the tab that says "xbox live marketplace" and you should be able to get it for free. Don't know how much it will be like that but they will probably fix it soon.

No, you have to start up halo 4 and in the main menu there is a tab that says Xbox Marketplace and clicking that will give you it to download for free. Anywhere else ie Dashboard ad, xbox.com will not allow you to get it for free.
Also Xbox doesn't ban you or anything, this type of thing has happened in the past and they've basically said it was their fault so nothing will happen to the one's who took advantage.
Yeah I put Halo 4 in and went to the Marketplace tab about half an hour ago and it said 800 MS points. Clicked and it said I needed to add funds. Bummer, but good for those who got it for free!
i just popped in my h4 disc at 6:10 pm EST and i just got it for free. it probably doesn't mean anything but i went into the war games menu before i went into the xbox marketplace option in the main menu. thanks microsoft :)

sweet i read this then turned on my 360 to see for my self clicked on it and this pop up immediatly so its a no brainer that im downloading this for free
I can see why you are disagreeing, but it's weird how isolated these free cases were. I went and got a free map pack earlier and a friend of mine in California tried 1 minute after I did and he could not.
This is what u do friends. U go to infinity in main menu, u choose war games and u choose the crimson map pack and it will tell ur butt that u don't have it and asks to get in the marketplace. U choose to take u there and u will see confirm purchase and it will cost nothing . Ur welcome
Dam it. I feel for u. Only people who showed full support for the game by getting the LE or paid for season pass deserve it. We won't get so lucky next time bro
I think you being furious is kind of funny, considering MS is the one that should be even more furious loosing money right now. This isn't charity from MS, but a glitch. A glitch that might get reversed....
You got what you paid for, but just so happens to get the neighbor syndrom i.e. if you live in a poor neighborhood, but has one of the best houses you are happy as can be. However, if you live in a rich neighborhood, but have a below average house, you are unhappy i.e. your happiness is tied to your neighbor, not what you actually got! =)
Glad I never bought the season pass. Luckily I was able to download it in time. Hard to feel sorry for Microsoft considering how they overprice everything.

the funny thing is that, something tells me this was on purpose but of course it can be proven really. But just a hunch.
It has to do with the specialization codes that they sent out. If you played during "launch window" before the 20th I believe you earned a code. If you redeemed the code its allowing people to DL for free. People who have not redeemed that code have it pop up as 800 pts.
I am thinking it is intentional in conjunction with those codes. However this will probably lead to a lot of upset Season Pass holders, because now that season pass isn't worth what people initially paid...
Didn't work for me at first, went into my email and redeemed microsoft's "gift" unlocking specialization priority, then the glitch worked for free crimson.
