Yeah, I noticed that too. Usually the 360 gains a very large lead pretty much undoing the sales lead the PS3 gets from all the months prior in the year but this year it's tooth and nail.
Jack Tretton said though that he is more excited for Q1 2013 than he is for the PS3's 2012 holiday with games like God of War: Ascension, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Ni No Kuni. Then The Last of Us releases on May 7th so it'll be a very strong year for PS3 starting as soon as the new year begins
speculation time... when the ps3 does surpass the 360 in total sales, what will it be like on this site?
For me it will be another day because i already have both. Im really wondering how many hold-outs there are left in this world? Sales of each are more than likely coming from those who bought one and now see there is nothing wrong with buying the other.
Everybody wins because each has a great library of back catalog titles. This far into the gen it is somewhat pointless to still hold off getting one or the other.
Id imagine there are more previously one sided gamers now comfortably in the middle. There is just too much fun to be stuck on one side.
Nice sales for all consoles. Sony held it down this year, the 360 usually pulls WAY ahead during Dec (Last year, 450k). Only a 19k difference this year. Congrats Sony and MS, this fiscal report coming up is gonna be interesting.
I'm glad to see the WiiU up there but I am shocked to still see the Wii selling. I mean there hasn't been a relevant game for that system in a year (maybe 2).
But all in all good to see consoles still going strong. Now...bring on the next gen please!
There was a game that just released in Japan last week. Sold over 100k, so I'm sure there are still some Developers out there supporting it. Just like the DS and PSP.
the numbers could be indicative of a slowdown. Saturation at some point. The upswing in mobile gaming could have something to do with it as well.
in fact, i dont think there is a way to track mobile gaming trends other than sales data from Apple, Google and MS in regards to what is being purchased/downloaded on the tablet/phone market. No doubt it is taking a piece of the console sales pie and its software.
you are right in the part about perception of the numbers. When they are in one sides favor they are praised. When they arent, they are damned. Its just human nature.
From a neutral POV, Sony, Ms and nintendo did really well for themselves in this generation as a whole. Nothing to cry foul about on any side.
becuz these numbers are fake 360 isnt outselling ps3 ww like this fake chart portrays how all these kids claiming victory is truly a face palm moment ps3 still number 1 ww and 360 still in last place in ltd numbers nothing to see here
I think those where shipped numbers, although it's probably surpassed 70 now. This website guesses numbers. Food for thought: GT5 shipped 9 million (1 month ago), VGC had it passing 8 million sold at that time.
hmmm "GT5 shipped 9 million (1 month ago), VGC had it passing 8 million sold at that time."
so cant both numbers be right? Shipped to retailers is one set of information. Sold to customers is another. Not every shipped equates to a sold. its only when that game is actually sold does it equate to a sold.
Now we have the private/2nd hand market as well. I tend not to buy many games 2nd hand but i do on older titles i find good prices on. 8 million sold new to consumers and no data to know how many sold through private transactions.
Maybe these companies can come up with a "where's my game" (like "Where's George") way of tracking the movements of a title and see how many times it has changed hands. If anything, it would give them a better understanding of the 2nd hand market.
The Wii U is now growing, therefore it may be a while before it gains traction. I wouldn't worry if you think those numbers are small, of which they are not if you thought about it. Certainly not a flop as many would have you think. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are selling nicely as usual though.
I play alot of games on my ipad4 why because alot are free and has good and better on anything the old consoles can do, though i got all the consoles and still play the sequals i also like playing my wii u there cool.
Anyway those are good numbers, for such old machines congrats to Sony and Microsoft.
Even Nintendo wii did well :)
Edit* even though everything is down this is the twilight of this gen remember

Especially Xenoblade which I own and love.

"Its Vcharts"
now it will be "good job sony".
Vcharts is only bad when Ms numbers are good. When Sony is doing well, then Vcharts is the a great source of data.
that said:
if you believe the numbers, it seems that they all did mediocre compared to last year.

How can you still have PS3 @ 69mill, when SONY already stated they have passed 70million.
Even still the shipped figure is better to use, VGChartz are not that reliable when it comes to numbers like you said.
Food for thought: GT5 shipped 9 million (1 month ago), VGC had it passing 8 million sold at that time.
