here are 6 reasons
1) I have too much money on my hands. i would really like to spend $60 for a service that the PC and PS3 offer for free

2) i dont want to complicate things with an extensive library of diverse exclusives. the same 3 franchises every year makes things lot more manageable

3) i like having a console that shreds my games if I bump it. it teaches discipline

4) i like having games on 2 or 3 disks. Disk swapping brings me back to the 90s. good old nostalgia

5) there is nothing I enjoy more than playing online with hundreds of trash talking pre-teens. my online experience wouldnt be the same without it.

6) having a console that overheats and fails on me constantly. It ensures that I never get too addicted to gaming and gives me time to do other things, while i wait for my replacement to arrive.

here are 6 reasons YOU FAILED at trolling!
1) I have too much money on my hands. i would really like to spend $60 for a service that the PC and PS3 offer for free instead.
-If you are a smart shopper, you can get 12 months for $35-$40, which is $3 bucks a month. If you can't afford that, you should also stick with Ramen noodles and fountain water for food from now on as well.

2) i dont want to complicate things with an extensive library of diverse exclusives. the same 3 franchises every year makes things lot more manageable
-Well, Foraza Horizon, Halo 4, Witcher 2, Minecraft sure doesn't match the PS3 2012 exclusives of LBP Kart and Sony Smash Brothers... :)

3) i like having a console that shreds my games if I bump it. it teaches discipline
-for that .00001% of xbox 360 owners that managed to shread their Alan Wake disc by following the E3 youtude video, I have nothing to defend that, I will give you that. :)

4) i like having games on 2 or 3 disks. Disk swapping brings me back to the 90s. good old nostalgia
-Hey at least for those 4-5 games that required Disc Swapping ever 5-6 hours, it sure is better than having 50% of your games going through 30mins of MANDATORY install and anoter 30mins of game and system update after that.

5) there is nothing I enjoy more than playing online with hundreds of trash talking pre-teens. my online experience wouldnt be the same without it.
-OK, so PC and PS3 are free from loud mouth, trash talking teens???? Please!! Oh, there is a mute button so you don't have to hear it if you don't want to.

6) having a console that overheats and fails on me constantly. It ensures that I never get too addicted to gaming and gives me time to do other things, while i wait for my replacement to arrive.
-Are you still beating a dead horse on a topic back 6 years ago? :)

" you can get 12 months for $35-$40,"

That's still $35-$40 too much. It's not about being able to afford it, it's about wasting money. I'd much rather spend those $40,- towards a game.
SDF Repellent  +   500d ago
Console are so cheap these days that if you are a serious gamer, you should have all of them so you can enjoy all the great games that each platform have to offer. I buy 90% of my games for X360 but I know I need the PS3 to play their excellent 1st party exclusives and some 3rd party standout port. Same with the Wii
momthemeatloaf  +   500d ago
I'll try to stick up for ps3 here and name 6

1. Free online service
2. Playstation home
3. Blu ray
4. Historic franchises
5. More tolerable online community, especially in games like Cod and sports games
6. Playstation plus
Gamerita  +   500d ago
LOL better what ? exclusives !!! they took PS3's most unique feature & gave it to xbox360. this is the biggest FRUAD & INJUSTICE in gaming history.

sometimes i feel if PS3 was american made console it would not be treated in such awful way, trying to bring it down all the time.
DarkZane  +   500d ago
Xbox Live is not more secure than PSN. The only reason PSN got hacked is because Sony pissed hackers off with the geohot lawsuit.

I am 100% sure that if Microsoft had pissed someone too, they would have just as easily been able to get into xbox live.

InTheLab  +   500d ago
I like how this and the 6 reasons for owning a PS3 are largely favoring the 360 because the author clearly has little knowledge of the PS3.

Take the free PSN that he mentions. After 5 long years of flawless security with NONE of the hack lobbies and cheating that goes on with XBL, someone comes along and hacks the network, which forced Sony to shut down PSN 2 weeks and the store for a month. Hackers did not hit the switch and turn off PSN like this author says. He should be fired for not doing research.

Now lets talk about the controller he loves. Its old tech with the only sensitive buttons being the two analog sticks and the RT/LT...meanwhile, the entire DS3 is touch sensitive and uses superior bluetooth technology with rechargeable batteries. I can't comment on how well the 360 feels for games as that is completely subjective but what is not is the overall usefulness of the Dpad and shoulder buttons for many genres instead of just shooters...which is pretty much the crowd the author is pandering too.

Better exclusives? Oh...he means better shooters, which still makes him wrong. While there is no answer to Halo..or really the huge following of fans that support it, Uncharted has long replaced Gears as THE 3rd person shooter of this generation with many people seriously consider UC2 the best game this gen and one of the greatest of all time, while any singular Gears title..or the whole franchise in general are simply thought of as good and not the best. I call that even Steven in my book.

He also lists Kinect in the Ps3 version of this crap as why you should buy a Ps3 over Xbox, which also makes him look the fool. Kinect and Move are simply addons and have nothing to do with this conversation.

Are there seriously no gamers working at Forbes? We're to the point now that, in the US, gaming is apart of the mainstream. As such, I feel like it should be taken seriously, and not butchered by 20 years old kids that came of age this gen.

in all seriousness, anyone who says the the xbox has a better exclusive library is living in a fantasy world.

going by metascores, the PS3 has over twice as many AAA and AA exclusives than the 360 (and really there are alot of underrated PS3 games). even most 360 fanboys have accepted this fact, by now. its not 2006 anymore
Sugreev2001  +   500d ago
I love both my PS3 and 360,and I doubt a real gamer would stay on this late into the generation to know which console offers the best games.PS3 has software that would appeal to anyone.

1. XBL is no more secure than PSN is right now. It shares its moments of down time just like PSN at times. That PSN hack was a one-time thing and I'm pretty sure those guys are in jail right now.

2. Opinion. I myself am so used to the PS3 controller.(same layout since PS1) that the 360 controller feels alien to me. So this reason doensn't count, this isn't' a valid reason. In fact I could counter that with "The PS3 control is better for fighters".

3. Opinion. Do sales equal quality? No. Resistance and Killzone are great shooters, you should try them sometimes. Again, this reason isn't valid.

4. I like how you only mentioned Skyrim, which is like the only game that has problems on PS3.(even though it also had problems on 360 but to a lesser extent). But I'll give you this one, Black Ops 2 was horrible at launch on PS3.

5. LOL? Looks like you were running out of reasons here....whether your friends own an Xbox 360 or PS3 depends entirely on where you live and other factors such as how rich you are.

6. What kind of integration? Most of us only use our PCs to stream videos to our console. PS3 is perfectly capable of this. Smartglass is a gimmick and there's no need to link up my PC/Phone/Console.
Playstation4LyFe  +   500d ago
if you don't own either by now then why even bother buying either.

In a parallel reality...

You drive a Honda and go to a gas station to fill up your tank of gas for $30. After you fill up and pay the gas station clerk, you get a call from Honda Corporation demanding to pay $60, just this once for the entire year, for the right to use the gas you just purchased.

You listen in disbelief. No other car manufacturers do this. Why should you pay for the gas AGAIN, after you just paid for it? Who pays for the same thing twice? You question why you must pay while no one else does, and Honda tells you that using their cars have certain benefits as opposed to using the cars of their competitors. So what you say? The opposite is true as well. You Vow to never buy another Honda again.

--------------------

Our Time, our Universe...

You sit on your couch and play your xbox 360. You love Halo, Gears of War, Forza, and Call of Duty. You use cross chat to talk with your buddies while gaming, and have a great time. You also like your xbox controller. Pretty ergonomic you say. You acknowledge the strengths of your system, but ignore its weaknesses.

Bills are here. Electricity, water, and Cable. You pay 30$ for the cable bill. Gotta pay the internet bill... no internet - no games! That would suck. The year goes on and your XBL subscription expires. You buy another XBL card for $60 (or possibly cheaper if you found a deal!). You dont even think about it. Paying for internet twice as opposed to other items is acceptable. You are an xbox user and that is your reality.

Its only 60 bucks a year you are thinking. Whats the big deal? Nintendo, Sony, and PC users dont pay for internet twice, but that doesn't faze you. Meanwhile you rant on forums how expensive pc gaming is because of hardware cost, ignoring that you pay 10$ more for every game and several hundred dollars for your XBL subscription which is essentially the same as paying for breathing air. Adding that up you could have Bought a PS3 with PS+, or a PC with a ton of games and enjoyed them all with higher graphics and mods.

But you cant be concerned with that... Because your friends are doing it so you must too. You are an xbox user and that is your reality.

Wow, listening to the halo 'revival' song while listening to it gives it that much more oomph.

Edit: Being an 360 gamer I understand what you mean. It sounds pretty expensive but for me it's pretty cheap. 25 USD for a year of gold.

The point that I tried to make is that microsoft has no right to charge you. Not 60. Not 50. Not 25. And not even 1 dollar.

You already paid for it. Its already yours. There is no such thing as "cheap" when its a fee for something you already own.

And if they want to charge for features of XBL thats fine. Such as cross chat etc... They could make silver = free to play online, and Gold = extra features like cross game chat. They wont though, because that will mean losing 90% of their subscribers probably.
JamieL  +   500d ago
Sorry I just had to respond to your comparison. I don't think it's a good one. Your car needs gas to work period, what you are describing is criminal, for a company to sell you something then tell you afterwards you can't use it without paying us a monthly fee. If you have The 360 is not like that. You can use it without Live, grant it you can't access everything in your games, but you can play it, so bad analogy.
DomceM  +   500d ago
ill disagree with you. What is the MAJOR purpose of a video game console? Halo, Cod, Forza etc.. Its multiplayer gaming. Sure you can use your xbox without using Live - to play SP games only. How many people do you know that dont pay for live and only play singleplayer? Realistically speaking - nobody.

Same thing with a car. Sure you can choose not to pay for gas, and simply have people push you around... But then you arent using it for what was originally intended. So you wouldnt be using all of the cars features (the major one especially).

Is the analogy perfect? No, its not... because its an analogy and it cant mirror the situation 100%. The point of an analogy is to illustrate one simple concept: You are paying for something twice. And its not right.

Its a shame MS has this mentality. Id love to own an xbox. Im serious. Id really like to play some halo with you guys sometimes, and try out gears of war. I just dont see a reason why I would have to pay for xbox live. I dont pay for food twice, I dont pay for clothes twice, I dont pay for gas twice, and I wont pay for internet twice.

You cant just let companies screw you over, or they will keep doing it if MS saw that xbox division was about to collapse because of XBL being 60$ a year... it would go free the same day. You guys just arent fighting back.

@ DomceM
No the "MAJOR PURPOSE" of a GAME console is to play games.
Ya'll are so full of bias it makes you unrealistic.
Your saying that having to pay for Live to access multiplayer, A fact that is on the box is the same as a guy selling you a car, then after you pay for it telling you that if you want to put gas in it you have to pay him a monthly fee. Oh your right " an analogy and it can’t mirror the situation 100%", lol, what he said doesn't match even 10%, so your swoop in and rescue attempt failed homie. How do you change all this stuff in your head to see what you want to see? I'm cursed with seeing things how they are, as opposed to what I WANT to see. I just don’t see how anyone buying a 360 wouldn’t know about Live before hand, what you described was bait and switch.

I got my Xbox 360 slim for two years now.
What i love about it; the interface.
What i hate about it; You have to pay 500 Norwegian crowns/50 American dollars to play online, the controller need an AA battery, it has very few exclusives, if you accidentally pick and hold up the console while playing a digital game, your disc is pretty much screwed, it has a huge power-brick.
It has been a two years disappointment, so, i am selling it.
Anyway, you are better off with PlayStation 3.

LOL, it's nearing the end of 2012 and there are still articles about which system is better.

This generation has lasted so long, surely most people have an Xbox and a PS3 by now. Honestly, if your choosing between the two, it all comes down to personal preference.
Y_5150  +   500d ago
Really this is not convincing enough. I have a PS3 but not a Xbox360 and I'm in no way getting one even if there are apparently 6 reasons why to regret buying a PS3...
taquito  +   500d ago
buy a pc instead, way more exclusives, better game prices, insanely better graphics

ps3/360 are 7-8 years old, they look awful in all games, low resolutions, jaggies, screen tear, sub-hd, all games on all consoles look downright last gen, wii u included

and ps4/nextbox will look last gen compared to how pc looks right now

i may buy next gen consoles a few years after they are out for the exclusives, but i know the graphics and performance will be terrible even on ps4/nextbox compared to my pc right now!
themiracle  +   500d ago
yep. 6 reasons.

uncharted
demon's souls
Journey
Gods of wars :)
Killzone (multiplayer!)
Resistance 3
IWentBrokeForGaming  +   500d ago
The PS3 Exclusives are made with better quality and more originality than 360 Exclusive franchises... also they look and play unlike any 360 Exclusive STILL on the market today...

I have both systems and if I were to recommend 1 to anyone... it would be the PS3
PurpHerbison  +   500d ago
Anybody else feel like these type of articles are just silly? I mean, at this point. Why would you buy any console? So late in the generation... So outdated... Isn't next gen around the corner?
