Gosh I hope not.

Yeh from the start of the wii to the move and kinect its just not for me as far as long hard core gaming sessions go. I'm just old and I like a good old game pad in my lazy hands.

I am interested though in what Valve is cooking up.
ChickeyCantor  +   1036d ago
I think what Valve was cooking up was the " big picture" feature for steam. Streamlining the interface for TV mode.
camel_toad  +   1036d ago

I'm actually referring to the recent rumors/comments about the device they're working on that almost sounds like it projects holograms that you would basically interact with in an open room.

Sorry I forget the source other than this site.

So true. If motion controls carry over I'll likely quit gaming.
herbs  +   1037d ago
Honestly I'm excited to see what developers do with Wiimotion+ this gen. I also enjoy IR control for first person shooters as an additional option.
Jinkies  +   1037d ago
Hopefully not...

I don't want to see a single, stupid gimmick in PS4/Nextbox packs when they are released. I do not want to pay for something in that box which I'm not going to use, why waste your time with that crap when you can try to make your console the best, the more powerful hardware on the market.
PopRocks359  +   1037d ago
Stagnation I assume. Unless you can do something really new with it (like the 360 did with online gaming) then a more powerful machine will only do so much for you.

Notice how much motion controls did for broader audiences on both the Wii and 360? Alternative methods of play, while not always necessary, can lead to some amount of technical evolution.

When the Wii was coming out, its controller technology was the hottest thing; here we are in 2012 saying how sick of motion controls we've become. Food for thought.
ChickeyCantor  +   1036d ago
" can lead to some amount of technical evolution. "

Not sure why people are disagreeing. How can the same formula lead to an "evolution"?

People might not like motion controls but it encourages developers to try new things. The same way Nintendo took a gamble with Wii-motes. And Sony and MS followed ( even if they had the tech in their archives for years. It was not until Nintendo showed that there is money in these motion controls).

Probably, sadly

Wouldn't surprise me.

Okay, if you don't like em, well you don't like em. Personally I do...Resident Evil 4 Wii was great with motion. It made the game worth a 4th play. Zelda, Galaxy, Redsteel2. All great with Motion, but I do like the controller option for some games, as some do not do do very well with only the motion controls.
Foolsjoker  +   1037d ago
I don't think the question is can a game be played with motion, but were the games improved because of it?
naiyo  +   1037d ago
Yes it can like RE4. I don't see how ppl can play with two analog stick forever. In the year 2020 do you really want to still play games with a 1998 controller?

if it wasn't for motion controls I would have never played games like Metroid Prime, or any fps. I could never get the level of control I wanted using dual analog sticks. With that said motion controls made great games I would have otherwise ignored due to not enjoying the controls, accessible to me. Killzone 3 was one of my favorite games and I played it online faithfully until PSN went down, and the Resistance 3 campaign was one of the best single player fps campaigns in awhile. All thanks to the Move.

With the whole virtual reality angle basically confirmed for Microsoft and Sony next gen, glasses and a controller don't seem like the obvious choice. Unfortunately, it will probably be more like glasses and a Kinect apparatus.
Belking  +   1037d ago
More kinect.
ChipChipperson  +   1037d ago
Are regular controllers, keyboards & mouses not working anymore?
dbjj12088  +   1037d ago
My thoughts exactly.
lilbroRx  +   1037d ago
Nintendo definitely will and I see no problem with it as it actually enhanced the games they made.

As far as Sony and Microsoft's consoles are concerned...thats another matter.
black911  +   1037d ago
If its cheaper yeah maybe.
gamern4g  +   1037d ago
Something new would be great.

I'd prefer Oculus Rift like tech

permenant fixture
just as the nes ushered in the modern controller button layout which all consoles since have imitated

just as the snes ushered in shoulder buttons and that became a permenant feature

just as the n64 ushered in the analogue stick

and the rumble pack (vibrating controllers)

nintendo usered in the wireless controller (wavebird) on gamecube

nintendo ushered in the motion controller with wii

nintendo ushered in the controller/tablet with wiiu

nintendo sets the trends, dictates the future direction of the industry.

nintendo innovates, the rest imitate

I think yes but not forced. if someone prefers control pads give them control pads if people want motion, give them that as an option too, if people want dual screen give them that too.. different ways to play the same game could broaden the horizon as more gamers would play it. Nintendo are currently doing this and I see PlayStation too, Microsoft will force kinnect on the massives which a mistake, Kinect adds nothing to games, motion controllers do like killzone 3 with move plays really well and skyward sword wouldn't be the same without motion plus. if each game has 4 different methods of playing more people could end up playing as it suits there style of play. saying that I think dual screen gaming is going to be bigger this gen. (were now in 8th gen of video game consoles). but Microsoft are going to have to come up with something better than smart glass I seen a review of NFS with smartglass and they had a seprate person looking at a GPS map telling player where to go. that looked increadibly pointless if ur serious about dual screen play you need a controller with a screen. psvita and ps3 don't work too well but the ps4 and vita could be a different story.

When it comes to motion controls it works well with games like skyward sword and Wii sports the way I see it, it depends on the type of game we playing
isarai  +   1036d ago
They weren't very big this gen so yeah probably.

i mean MS/SCE seemed like they had high hopes for it but devs just don't want to make games for it, so they had very little support.
ozzywazzy  +   1036d ago
I hope not. I finally got to play the wii u for a good long while at a friends house and I must say the gamepad feels incredibly cheap. It reminds me of my little cousin's leap frog learning toys.
quantae06  +   1036d ago
Had they put more into the controller you would have complained about it being too heavy.
millzy102  +   1036d ago
sorry to point this out all control pads feel cheap I've never felt a pad and thought this feels expensive. all I care about is comfort and gamepad delivers on that.

I like the fact that with Wii U, you can use Gamepad, Wii remotes, Pro Controller, You can basically play anyway you would like.
quantae06  +   1036d ago
I think motion control should be apart of gaming, but not the face of gaming. The Wii U gives people plenty of options & that's how things should be done. Nintendo learned from that everybody may not like motion controls from the Wii, or even touchscreen gaming, so they also have Pro controller & classic controller support. Having plenty of options is the way to go for all consoles.
