It was better for both companies that the partnership ended.
If it didn't, games probably wouldn't be as mainstream as they are today.

Well back then the first playstation wasn't even released. Gaming as we know would have been drastically different. That's a huge change of history there and the authors predictions didn't even sound right. If Nintendo and Sony still was together, then Sega would have still today be a giant in the industry!

Final Fantasy main series still on nintendo....I wounder what things would be like then for FF?
DivineAssault  +   753d ago
I think they should do it now or in the future but it would crush microsoft n monopolize they industry.. I guess its better this way so better deals & software is released in competition
rainslacker  +   753d ago
Sony got too big with gaming to go and do something like that now. There's no need for them to partner with Nintendo anymore.
TongkatAli  +   753d ago
Remember when Professor X and Magneto fused ? something like that would happen.
Baka-akaB  +   753d ago
If you mean by that that it was mediocre (like the whole onslaught crossover) then yes
TruthbeTold  +   753d ago
Yeah, the story. But the power and ability-set of Onslaught was ridiculous.
ForgottenProphecy  +   753d ago
Games like Crash Bandicoot, created to compete with Nintendo games, would not exist.
MadMen  +   753d ago
Well

Its safe to Say even if SONY did go ahead, Nintendo would be a more dominate player as SONY would have been content with just getting their royalties without going full fledge in

It would be MS, Nin and maybe apple or google by now.

SONY I applaud so much in 1995, they took a risk, they showed their cool cards, they made CD games standard, they were edgy, they were the cool kid on the block

PS1 will always be my fav system of all time, I still have all my ps1 games, theme park, road rash, FF7 etc

Sigh

Man there needs to be a new Road Rash game. Would be totally cool to play online. Imagine your gang(clan) vs another clan. A lot of brutality and road rage would happen for sure.

Well the fanboy/console wars would seem a little more nationalistic. Sony/Nintendo vs. Microsoft or Japan vs. America.

Of course I could be wrong. Interesting to think about actually...

Sony's power with Nintendo's controller ideas. Hmm...

my fantasy has always been to play super mario or zelda games on playstation systems.
microgenius  +   753d ago
it would have been boring
BitbyDeath  +   753d ago
Xbox was created cause of Playstation so it'd probably be only Nintendo and Sega making consoles.

Who wants a mature mario game? meh..

Sony is better off on it's own. Look at ps2's success.
Hopefully they will get back to that.

I rather sony 1st party keep making new IP's than same games for the last 30 years.

I was a die hard nintendo fan when I was a "children".. hehe
JoeSchmoh  +   753d ago
i think sega would still be around with a console if sony and nintendo made a system together
MultiConsoleGamer  +   753d ago
Nintendo would have been taken over by Sony, which was sony's long term plan and the real reason Nintendo broke their contract with the company.

And now they both would have gone under.

I have to admit that I see this sort of speculation as a bit sad. Like Sony fans lament what might have been. Meanwhile there isn't a Nintendo fan in the world that is sad about what happened. Nintendo did the right thing to preserve the history and the future of their company.

Besides, the two fan bases would have never mixed. No one is more hostile and abusive toward Nintendo than Sony fans.

Given current standings of all the company's I highly doubt Sony fans are lamenting the loss.

Seriously though, and I say this as a Sony fan and remembering those days, Sony was being pretty underhanded and did try to strong arm Nintendo into some shifty royalty deals. On top of that they had some stipulations as to IP rights, which Nintendo just wouldn't accept.

In the end it worked out for both companies, so thinking on what-if's from over 20 years ago serves no purpose, especially given how often gamers are usually looking forward.

"What If Nintendo Had Really Gone Forward with Sony?"

Sorry, these gaming "journalists" have very little sense of grammar alone.

The title of the article should be "What if Sony Didn't Try to Con Nintendo?" but other than that not a bad alternate prediction. I wonder if Pachter exists in the reality.
YoungPlex  +   753d ago
Well it would've happened if Sony didn't want all the CD based royalties. I wish it would've happened, but it didn't and that's why I'm stuck with all 3! Had Sony and Nintendo just agreed on 50/50 split on all CD and cartridge based software, I think that things would've turned out great. Nintendo was too smart to let Sony take all the CD royalties and knew that CD's were eventually the way of the future but damn it would've been a great partnership had it gone through... Oh well, there's always next-gen. Who knows if consoles will even exist after this upcoming generation! Only time will tell but it could be a possibility nonetheless...
