Honestly I'm surprised the first FFXIV didn't destroy Square Enix. Particularly after all that FFXIII, FFXIII-2, FFXIII-3, Type-0 and Versus-XIII nonsense.
The only way for gamers to win is for SE to completely re-structure itself. Instead of pouring insane amounts of resources into a few really big dev teams, they should have smaller, more focused teams working independently of each other on different projects. That way they could A) produce more material, B) produce material more frequently, C) take more risks on material.
They were actually going to do that after what happened with FFXII (talking about development problems the game had, not criticizing the actual product, fanboys). There were some interviews back then talking about the future of Final Fantasy, telling gamers that future games would be produced on smaller budgets so they could shorten development times (and costs).
Then we got Final Fantasy XIII so God only knows what happened.
And I don't think it's fair to blame Wada. Well, not entirely. He's just the president of S-E, so it's not like he has much (if any) hands-on control with the development teams. Remember, he was also the president of Square since 2000, so Final Fantasies IX and X were produced under his reign, and most people are pretty okay with those two games. Personally, I think the real problem lies more in middle-management.
Wada has expanded Square-Enix's role as a publisher and has really focused hard on shortening localization times, which I think most of us appreciate.
It's sort of like U.S. government. Sure, there are a ton of problems, and sure a lot of people blame the President for 'em all... but ultimately the responsibility (and culpability) lies in a corrupt, incompetent congress.
If this one sucks then yeah. I mean I dont even think they care, theyre releasing three games from the worst FF game ever. If they do FF14 correctly this time they may get better. Im hoping for the best because I want to play that game.
As much as I love the old Square games I wouldn't even be remotely upset if they disappeared. The ONLY reason I am happy to see the company still together is that people have jobs there and I don't want to see anyone out of work.
I just want DQX for Wii and if they're out of their mind, for some reason, on the PC... It looks more cool than FF14 anyway, because it's different. FF14 is like your usual MMO (with some differences) with nice graphics and a FF skin... Sorry, my opinion... DQX is old school RPG online... I wanna try it!
Release Versus XIII Localize Type-0 Release Kingdom Hearts III Release A Realm Reborn (Presuming it's a LOT better than XIV) Release Lightning Returns Release Agni's Philosophy as Final Fantasy XV on next-gen consoles.
They might also consider localizing Bravely Default, Sigma Harmonics and Blood of Bahamut.
Man, I have to admit as much as I love FF, they really haven't had a spectacular showing this gen. I loved 13 and have yet to play 13-2 but just thinking about 7, 9, 10, 12...it was a big deal when they released something. Now its sort of ehh from a gamer perspective. I really wished the US got type-0. I hear it was really good. Hoping that 14 will be good when it re releases.
Although i think most of the downfall is becuz of Wada.
