Why the fuck does everyone continue to call it the 720?

Did the first xbox have a number? NO.

720 has no meaning to contribute to any console design. gsus
annus  +   696d ago
Because when they see it they do a 720 and walk away.
LNDCalling  +   696d ago
Because its games will be 720p?
Dms2012  +   696d ago
Is that a serious question?
jelydonut  +   696d ago
I keep seeing "movies maybe".. Maybe on the PS4, as sony has to push the tech to standardize it into the market, but unless MS goes blu-ray instead of DVD, movies ain't gonnna happen on the 720. Unless the movie is only 5 mins long.. then maybe..
Deku-Johnny  +   696d ago
Let's take it one step at a time. The next Xbox will be able to do 1080p at 60 FPS at best like the Wii U. The Xbox 360 can just about manage 720p and even then it's upscaled from SD. We should wait a few gens till we start with resolutions like 4K.
wishingW3L  +   696d ago
Wii U can't even maintain stable 30 frames at 720p just like the PS3 and Xbox.

Probably not full retail games but I wouldn't rule out XBLA games.
animegamingnerd  +   696d ago
i am not expecting 4k next gen but the gen after that
Psychonaughty  +   696d ago
That would be unreasonable, 1080p is enough and as long as every game is that resolution and 60fps I will be fine, something tells me we might be disappointed though...
FinalomegaS  +   696d ago
Hahahahahaha @ 4K

never tasted a Native 1080P COD on the 360 but hell let's go straight past GO>>>> collect 200$ and hit the free parking jackpot.

Next thing we're going to hear is some hologram type media disc that hold 1T+ data. Imagine downloading a 4K game... Idk about you guys but the north American internet infrastructure isn't ready for such bandwidth.

Just a reminder to everyone about the events during the beginnings of the console war between the PS3 and 360.

Everyone here was arguing whether or not 360 will deliver "FullHD" like the PS3. "FullHD", a term flaunted by Sony's marketing team, was sucked up and regurgitated be the media and fanboys alike. Countless threads on N4G with dedicated to this endless argument. At the end of the day, has anyone here noticed that with only a few exceptions, the native resolution of nearly all the games on either console has been anything close to "FullHD"?

Do any of you really want to pick up the "4K" torch so soon?

4k? Hell no!

I'm just hoping for 1080p to be the standard for Every game. I'll be happy with that!
Tzunoy  +   696d ago
even if..... it's all about graphic engine at the end not resolution.
SyWolf  +   696d ago
People who think that next-gen consoles will do 4k gaming don't know anything about technology.

gt5 prologue was NOT 1920x1080! It was 1280x1080 with ZERO AA.

"By the time GT5 Prologue was released, Polyphony was well on the way to hammering down the specifics of the tech: the 1280x1080 target resolution we see in the final game was confirmed"

-SOURCE;

EVERY OTHER GAME on that list are crappy indy games

ps4/nextbox will be 1080p at 30 frames for most AAA games with some sliding back to old 720p

I think Sony will try to make their next PlayStation powerful enough to support 4K Resolution for gaming at 30 FPS.

They have a history of using their PlayStations to demonstrate new technology that they are trying to push...i.e. CD-ROM, DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, etc

PC elitist fail to realize that 4K TVs will come into play within the lifetime of the PlayStation 4. Technology moves very quick.

I think devs will probably still make their games native 1080p at 60 FPS and upscale to 4K in order to push better graphics.
tee_bag242  +   696d ago
I can't believe now many blind fan boy children think 4k at 60fps is going to happen.
wishingW3L  +   696d ago
I don't even understand why they want 4K to begin with!
animegamingnerd  +   696d ago
well there are people who think the next xbox and playstation will be better then pc's but most likely they will have around 2010 specs

FightFans  +   696d ago
4K resolution games? could be but not at the level of Crysis or high complex 3D games. It could run mini games like you see on PSN or XBL market place and 4K movies. The next generation capable of doing it but I think their main focus is 1080p and 3D.
Gamerita  +   696d ago
true
ozstar  +   696d ago
Of course, since the first thing MS want to do with their only profit making technology division is lose money.
level 360  +   696d ago
No and simply because it would add unwanted costs to Microsoft. And I'm sure they wouldn't gamble on 4K just yet unlike Sony who can and this is to do with their television/camera/movie division which is also connected to gaming.
Rettom  +   696d ago
A high end gaming PC can't even run 2k...
MasterCornholio  +   696d ago
Next gen for consoles will be about 1080P for all games not 4K which is pushing it.

This resolution crap never seems to end. Increasing resolution isn't as simple as toggling on an option in a menu. That's a massive amount to render. If the new consoles can run a game at 1080p and 60 frames per second with a substantial increase in detail, that's a massive improvement over the 360 and PS3.

Detail, lighting/ shadows, and post processing effects can often have a much bigger impact on visuals than resolution anyway. Also, many current generation games often have no antialiasing or an awful antialiasing method that badly blurs the image. If one of the computationally cheaper AA methods can be applied in the next consoles, that could also upgrade the image quality quite a bit more at a very low cost. For example, SMAA in a PC game often has very little impact on the frame rate yet it does a terrific job cleaning up the edges as far as computationally cheap AA methods go. Crytek has a version of SMAA they will be using in console games, and I'm sure other developers will have ideas as to how to improve image quality over what we usually saw in this generation.

Turning up the resolution, on the other hand, can be crippling to frame rates. You'll notice less improvement with each major step up in resolution. 480p (SD) to 720p is more noticeable than 720p to 1080p. Yet each jump requires a huge increase in computational cost. 4K is for the next consoles is just not practical or realistic, and you'd probably find more noticeable improvements through other settings.

"PlayStation Orbis (technically we can call it PlayStation 4), being able to do this and also do 3D gaming at 60fps..."

A rumor stating the PS4 can do 4K Resolution, 60 frames per second and 3D gaming simultaneously.

Who the fuck do you get your rumors from?
ninjahunter  +   696d ago
Lol, the amount of vram bandwidth that would take would be retarded. XD man, why not throw in some AA and crank it up to 60fps. The manufacture cost of the memory would cost more than the rest of the system all together.
