the difference is that while Intel has better CPU AMD's integrated GPUs sweep the floor with the Intel HD's. So at the end AMD is the better choice for basically everything from gaming to photo editing and watching HD movies.
This is patently false. AMD's 8350 barely performs better than the i3-3225 -- this is because the Piledriver chips cannot handle singlethreaded applications efficiently, and are only at peak efficiency when running all 8-cores heavily. Watching movies won't stress the video chip to a point where the differences are relevant; AMD and Intel are both going to play movies equally well.
Now... AMD's Trinity APUs do have better performing graphics capabilities than Intel, but this is only relevant for those making low-end gaming systems and HTPCs.
Everything needs competition. If there is only one manufacturer for CPUs, then they can decide the market prices and control the evolution of that particular field of technology.
@decrpyt Are you actually serious ? If AMD go out of business who is going to take their place ? Intel already charge out the arse for their products and with no competition there will be little to no innovation and Intel will have no reason to refresh their architecture.
AMD is better at single-processing, while Intel is better at multi-processing. The problem with Bulldozer is that there is only on decoder. Steamroller will have 2. AMD also supports overclocking with their Black Edition processors.
Nobody need such overpriced CPU, i am running my set up with AMD Athlone x4 (World cheapest quad core). It's running my Eyfinity triple monitor setup like a BAWS. + I record video for youtube in BF3, and have no problems at all. It's all about GPU power.
All this "Intel CPU's are faster" marketing is working toward stupid people, who will buy overpriced CPU's and never will use more then 10% of it's actual power.
Eh I've always used amd and they always worked good for me. Dollar for dollar and to me is the best overall. IMO no point spending $100's of dollars more for marginal performance gains
Its a shame AMD haven't been on their game for the past couple of years. I remember when AMD were untouchable in terms of performance but now i dunno whats happened to them :/.
Many current Gen AMD processors still get beat by an Intel Core i7 920 (overclocked or not)!
If your on a Budget then yeh go AMD but other than that Intel ALL the WAY!!

AMD still has its place in the world. We need competition for Intel to ensure consumers don't get screwed.

It's all about, how looooong is your GPU.
