Downhill... No, but did i loose a little respect for nintendo... unfortunatly yes.

As good as the game could have been I found myself not having the burning desire to play because all i wanted to do was, well, play. I didnt want to roll bombs across the floor using my hand or balance link on a string with an extreamly unaccurate Wii remote. Hopefully for any next installment to the series Nintendo will remember who the series appeals to and that is gamers :/

Wii U pro controller, I'm counting on you!

Oh wow that all sounds awful, I had to stop playing Twilight Princess a few hours into it because of the waggle, sold my wii shortly after.

Hopefully WiiU's controllers will supply us with a more traditional Zelda, I think I might try and pick up Twilight Princess for my gamecube too.

I thought Twilight Princess was really good. I haven't even tried Skyward Sword yet. I hope the next zelda uses the pro controller as well. I have fond memories of playing Windwaker using the wavebird on GC.

Twilight Princess was very good ... must be very limpwristed to want to get rid of a perfectly good game just for a little waggling...

I agree on your points, I felt the same aswell

However I also felt like the game was a step back for the franchise.

I seriously don't understand how it got nearly perfect scores. A 7 ir 8 fine but 10/ way.

Yeah, the Wii-mote was a little iffy.

Wasn't feeling Skyward Sword for many reasons, but the controls in my opinion we very solid. Never had any glaring issues with the controls. Save for perhaps when the batteries were low, or fighting the scorpion or the final Ghiriham fight where stabbing needed to be precise.

My gripes, were a lame story that got in the way too much.

Useless tasks like collecting tadtones?

The Sword girl who stopped your progress every 2-5 minutes.

No overworld?

This was in my opinion one of the worst Zelda games I've played. Even still it was a 'decent' game, but We had come to expect more from Zelda, and this game didn't deliver.

It has definitely left me cautious about the future of the series...similar to how Other M has me worried as to where Metroid will go.

It was mainly the Wiimote's use that made it less enjoyable for me. I believe it should be optional in the next Zelda.

I can deal with a less-than-stellar story, but lack of an overworld was a slap in the face.

A Zelda game shouldn't be awesome because it's Zelda, but because it's a great game.

I thought Skyward Sword was great. I hear a lot of complaints about the Wii remote. It worked fine for me. I found it fun to have to slash the Wii remote certain ways based on the enemy. I enjoyed it a lot.
KingWilly105  +   1113d ago
Not downhill, but it provided a less skyward direction than past games have.
silkrevolver  +   1113d ago
I loved it.
The actual combat was the best in the series, IMO.

Started way too slow, though.

I never got to play this Zelda game, but if it's as disappointing as you guys are saying that truely bums me out. I only got to play Twilight Princess before I parted ways with my Wii. Guess it really shows that if you make EVERY game you release to have to be played by constant motions... especially if inaccurate, it'll turn people off real quick!
Griffin4871  +   1113d ago
Don't base your decision to play it off of others. You might actually enjoy it as not every gamer is the same, which is why I believe it should be optional.

It was the best Zelda game I have ever played and I have played all of the Console Zeldas.

So, it is a matter of opinion. Plus, it got great reviews by the critics- try it you might like it.

Just remember that the Ghirahim fight is intentionally there to frustrate you. That first fight with him was a wake-up call (THIS IS NOT TWILIGHT PRINCESS, YOU BETTER GET SOME SKILL SON!)

-There were some problems with the controller recalibrating from time to time but it was miniscule-

By the time the Lightening-Dragon Boss Time Challenge was opened, I was amazed how much better, my swordsmanship, had gotten along the way (also amazed to see that their wasn't as much recalibrating going on than I had previously believed).

It definitely wasn't the best games in the series, Combat was Ok, but not nearly as good as what you got in Windwaker, the story had some massive plot holes, a lot of the dungeons where pretty small, and what really annoyed me is that there really isn't much to explore. At best I'd say the game was ok.

Skyward sword was a good game.

but in terms of zelda games it's probably the weakest installment yet. None of the dungeons or boss fights were even memorable. The only difficulty I had was the first temple skyview and the only boss fight that posed any kind of challenge was fighting ghirahim for the first time. The only times I ever died in the game was fighting and enemy and getting killed due to the wii mote not responding to my movements properly (for the most part this rarely happened).

good as a game, but as a zelda game not so great.

Hated skyward sword. Have always loved Zelda games but this one fell short. My favorite is link to the past. I hated the graphics in skyward, the beginning was excruciatingly boring, and it just didn't have that "Zelda" feel. I felt like it was done by a 3rd party team that just didt get Zelda. Same with spirit tracks when I played it. And the motion controls only gotta go. Hate that gimmick

i wouldn't say it forced the series downhill, it did however stunt the growth of the franchise. nintendo needs to understand that people don't like being forced to play a game a certain way, people like options. one thing that has pissed me off about nintendo is that they keep forcing us play their 1st party games one way. i don't want to forced to play zelda by flailing my fucking arm all over the place, i just want to use a damn traditional controller. same thing with zelda wii u, i shouldn't have to use that tablet controller i should have the option to use the pro controller. if nintendo really wants the hardcore back give us pro controller support with all 1st party games. thats all we have been asking for as hardcore nintendo fans.

This is why the so called "hardcore" are holding back gaming. Scared of change. I hope Zelda Wii U uses the hell outta the Gamepad, cos if it doesn't then it may as well be a 3DS game or a really late gamecube release.

I encountered absolutely no problems with the wii remote while playing skyward sword. I'd even argue aiming without a sensor bar worked better than i expected.
RivetCityGhoul  +   1112d ago
how i am i holding back gaming when i say i want an option for traditional controls. did i say just a traditional controller and throw out the gampad completely. no i didn't moron.
AWBrawler  +   1112d ago
no need for name calling, and I am just stating that the attitude that's afraid of change is holding back gaming. not you in particular, but that attitude in general.

I try to choose my words carefully as not to offend, but i seem to have botched it up this time.

Happy Gaming

I LOVED twilight princess & beat it around 3x.. This one was good but i forced myself through it.. I actually enjoyed windwaker more than this
Bigboss999  +   1113d ago
Well on my opinion,Skyward sword was classic and the controls were perfect generally improving on your timing, preciseness and generally reflex.Though it took me a little time to get acquainted with.BUT I GENERALLY LOVED IT.Looking for an opportunity to lay it again(Its a whole world of its own)

I personally want to know whats keeping Zelda/Mario from getting darker. I was there for the NES, Im now 28... I'd somewhat like for the franchises to age to a degree with the gamers that started with these franchises as kids...

But I also understand that keeping these games tame enough for newer kids being introduced, will what also makes these newer installments memorable for a new generation of gamers... although they truely won't have as many memories as us older gamers, lol!

I know Zelda won't ever be close to a M rating... I can't help but to think how it would play as a bit more of a mature style game! I mean, this franchise has always had pretty good story so that definatley isn't a problem!

I actually liked Skiward Sword and Twilight Princess (played GC version)

I prefer buttons to motion control any day.

...and I prefer "hey listen!" to Fi any day.

If anything it forced the series uphill. The game was excellent. The story was great, the graphics were beautiful and the gameplay was refreshing. The Wiimote+ improves the controller tenfold. I don't know where you got that people had problems with it, if you configure it correctly there are no problems. I first got my Wiimote+ for Red Steel 2 and noticed a huge difference. Skyward Sword was the most responsive motion control game I've ever played, fighting with the Wiimote meant having to time my swings correctly, I felt like I was Link. I can't wait to see how Nintendo implement the Wii U gamepad in the next installment but if they decided to keep the current control method you'd get no arguments from this guy. The only problem I had was how they managed to create an even more annoying companion than Navi.
AWBrawler  +   1112d ago
The hell? Skyward Sword is one of my favorites right behind Windwaker and Ocarina. Why the hate? Are people that lazy, that they hate this game just because it uses motion?

Zelda needs a new daddy... Hey Retro you want in... oh wait your in Texas... >.<

There hasn't been another title yet, so how can we know if it's "downhill" or not?
SugarSoSweet  +   1112d ago
Thought it was awful....nowhere near as good as OOT or Twilight Princess
