A little scary considering these figures account for Madden and NCAA 13. Wonder where all the money is going.
onyoursistersback  +   1001d ago
i dont get it they lost 381 mill, yet they made 711 mil? all i see is a "WIN WIN" to me.
Bathyj  +   1001d ago
Theres a difference between revenue and profit.
ambientFLIER  +   1001d ago
Revenue of 711 million with a loss of 381 million means that their expenses were 1.091 Billion. Revenue and Profit are two different things. They made no profit for the quarter.

@onyoursistersback

Imagine if you started a business that made $800. The cost to start the business and hire someone was $1000.

That means you lost $200 ($800 revenue - $1000 expenses).

thank you to the people helping me out.....now it makes "cents"
DeadlyFire  +   1000d ago
This really isn't that much. Considering that they publish about anything.

SWTOR Cost them 150 Million minimal amount. They tried to make a WoW clone and that doesn't work so they go Free to play and hope to make up for that cash in the long run.

What else cost them?
Ramon3MR  +   1001d ago
That's a lot of cheese right there.
BitbyDeath  +   1001d ago
All they need to do is release Sims 4 and profits will soar again.
Moncole  +   1001d ago
Or a Lady Gaga DLC for Sims 3 and make it 40$.
DeadlyFire  +   1000d ago
Simcity hits in 2013.

Sims 4 doesn't come out until 2014. Don't give it away just yet. They have 3 more expansion packs to release before 2014.

ouch, i can't believe im saying this after dealing with the 06 to 08 crappy game lineup, this sorta makes me sad. :(
GraveLord  +   1001d ago
Good. Releasing games like MoH and sending them off to die won't help. No, releasing a month before Call of Duty isn't a good strategy.

Just hurry up and make Battlefield an annual franchise.(If you don't believe me look at EAs newest press release where they admitted it)
omarzy  +   1001d ago
This translates into the average man dropping a quarter on the ground.
bunfighterii  +   1001d ago
Strange, I thought they would have done well. I guess a flop like MOH can change alot. EA cop a lot of flak but they have released some of the best games this gen.
Drazz  +   1001d ago
They've also "destroyed" some of the best games this gen.
vortis  +   1001d ago
Name me one in-house game EA released under their own label that was "one of the best" where they didn't usurp a studio to do so?

Yeah, exactly.
ninjahunter  +   1001d ago
Can we get a round of applause for this man and his amazing rofl stomp? Woot woot.
INMATEofARKHAM  +   1000d ago
Dead Space. Owned Visceral Studios since 1998 when the founded it. (They where known as EA Redwood back in the day.)
vortis  +   1000d ago
@INMATEofARKHAM

Props, I forgot about that. They actually made some good historic games (Everything or Nothing and the first Godfather game).

Unfortunately, Drazz is more right...and they've destroyed more brands and studios and hurt the industry more than they've helped.

I fear for the future of DICE.
bunfighterii  +   1000d ago
Dead Space series, Bad Company 2, BF3, Burnout Paradise, Crysis 2, Mass Effect series, FIFA series, Mirrors Edge, Syndicate...

I loved all these games and all were published by EA.
taquito  +   1001d ago
this only means they expected to make 381 million more than whatever amount of millions they made (I'd guess 200 million)

do you honestly think any company loses 381 million dollars and just keeps on doing the same thing

they would be bankrupt
Ducky  +   1001d ago
Are they going to blame the loss on the accidentally-free games they unleashed a few weeks ago?

Actually, wow... marketing is a pretty big elephant.

Lol, "we lost roughly $400,000,000 because a few thousand people got 1 $19.99(or less) game for free... games that werent selling on origin anyway... yep.

XD
glennco  +   1001d ago
hopefully their greedy practices are backfiring
davidmccue  +   1001d ago
Didn't Chrysler announce that they made a profit of $381 million yesterday.

Looks like EA may have been buying a lot of sedans for some reason.

mochachino  +   1000d ago
It seems EA has been posting a loss every quarter for a couple years now.

They have so many successful titles, I'm not sure where the money is going? Maybe the execs are just getting paid way too much, or they've already made the investment into the next-gen or they want a loss for tax purposes.
