The future seems to be VR
but this may only be worth using in First person games, that's the problem.

Microsofts holodeck is only useful in FP with Peripherals

Sony's AR/VR has the same issue as both of these but the only way I can think of incorporating the VR is with Peripherals. Turning the PS move into a gun/sword etc.

"but this may only be worth using in First person games, that's the problem."

There are plenty of game style that will be better for the use of a Rift.

Horror/survival (Left4dead, Resident Evil)
Simulation/flying (Flight Simulator X)
Simulation/driving (i Racing, Project Cars, forza, G.T.)
Action, fantasy, MMO Role play games (Skyrim)
Beat 'em up (Tekken)
Stealth game (Hitman, Batman, splinter cell)
Real-time 3D adventures (Tomb raider, uncharted 3)

There are many more genre's that could take you into the game it will just be a new way of thinking that will be needed from both the developers and gamers.

Imagine playing a football game from a players visual point or playing on a pinball table and the table looks life size and not some compromised 42" screen.

For me been a Sim racer the Oculus Rift will bring many advantages the biggest two being.
1: able to look round(left, right). Instead of having to use buttons to look at side mirrors or looking at another car along side me going into a corner also looking at apex and exiting corners for acceleration point.
2: Total immersion. Because everything will be life size things like speed will not need to be faked with thing like blur and distorted distances, how close you are to another car, can you make that gap all these and many more will be more natural.

As for Sony & Microsoft no thank you they both over charge(Rip-off) their loyal fan base for everything they sell/release.

Amen
on the Overcharging point. But honestly I'm not sure how VR visors work for 3rd person games, if you can look around in a 3rd person shooter, you could look away from the character, and take damage because you'r not focused on your character.

I think looking around the environement might only work when you dont have to focus on your character. Cockpit view in a racer is good though.

I'd like to support the Oculus, but my skeptical side wants to wait until it can see it in action.
