well if it does black ops 2 in 1920x1080 (2,073,600 pixels) @ 60 frames will 4x aa and the ps3 does black ops 2 in 1024x600 (614,400 pixels) with zero-2x aa, i would put that at roughly 5x the power (with the possibly better aa factored in.
1. I read the article, then I went to the source article to see the actual quote, and it only quotes the Nintendo rep saying that, without putting absolutely any kind of context here for us. Come on, the Nintendo rep could've meant a lot of things, but yeah, let's just take the "19 times more powerful" statement at face value, because that will get more hits and generate more discussion. Good journalism be damned!
2. Example? Ok, here's one possibility: the Wii U has 2 GB of RAM. One dedicated to the games, the other one to the OS. In comparison, the PS3 has 512, out of which approximately 50 MB are used for the OS, the rest for the games, give or take (not sure about this, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
My point here is... if we were to talk strictly about a separate aspect of the console when compared to the PS3, and not the whole of it, you could make a case of it being effectively 19 or 20 times more powerful. Guess what? The Wii U actually has 19/20 times more power than the PS3 when it comes to RAM dedicated to the OS. 1 GB = 20 times more than what the PS3 has (50 MB).
Does this mean the Wii U, as a whole, is 20 times more powerful than the PS3? Hell no. Not even close.
But I could very easily see how a Nintendo representative could've stated something like what I exposed above, then taken his statement, had it completely butchered and taken it out of context, and the final result being something effectist just to get page views. Hell, look! It's becoming a hot topic here at N4G. I wonder why?
Of course, the other possibility could be that the Nintendo rep, effectively, talked stuff out of his ass, and really has little to no clue to what he's talking about! :P
Because, seriously. While I do think the Wii U is probably more powerful than the PS3, is it sensible to believe the difference in power is going to be THAT drastic overall? Again: hell, no. Let's be realistic here. This is just common sense.
Anyway, I still find it strange that the original source doesn't give any context to that statement, just throwing it out like that. So, yeah, I'm taking it all with a HUGE bath of salt.
(Sorry if I have some spelling mistakes, writing with a tablet is a bitch).
Another liar from the camp of Nintendo. What a shock. The Wii U is nineteen times more powerful but has a hard drive capacity ten times smaller than what is currently available. Ok then. Step away from the hallucinogens buddy.
But the GPU, if it is AMD Radeon E6760 (Mobility) then its basically AMD Radeon HD 6670. This has 480 Unified Shaders.
10 times the Shaders of Xbox 360 (Xenons, which was a prototype HD 2000 series), so that plus architecture improvements over the years it could be close to 19 times.
I can't see the CPU being worse than the Cell or Xenon its 2012 the older consoles where released in 2005/2006
what silly sony and microsoft fanboys dont understand...is that the wiiu really is about 2 to 4 times more powerful then xbox 360 or ps3...its just that nintendo is not a graphic whore company so they really dont care to make that case...just the games and the innovation that wiiu gamepad, tvii and miiverse brings.
19x, um...lol.....no, 5x, maybe, we'll see

I want the Wii U because I want the Wii U...not because I really care about power but because it looks fun.
great for playing games on the toilet though....
mommy's,kids will get this
the hardcores tho wont give a fck and will wait for sony-m$ next console
it's a company rep, it's not like Reggie said it...
The guys will probably relocated to Siberia lol
It's not 19times. more like 2-3 raw power. But with edram for aa, at least it can be spent on graphics.
You should see better shadows and textures, but it won't be much in other area's.
Wait until you see someone push the console.
The zombie game on the WII U is exclusive, so no excuses.
the ps3 came out SEVEN YEARS AGO,there is nothing to be proud about this.
