I think the representative was exaggerating (which he shouldn't be doing when informing people while having a hands on experience) as 19x times more powerful than anything is ,well, stupidly more powerful
Do u realise how powerful a console needs to be to be able to make the games graphically abit above current HD consoles at Native 1080p/60fps at launch of games that have been optimized and tweaked for 7 years means its seriously powerful.
Remember the 360 couldnt even keep up with gamecube/xbox right out the box and look how far that came Hmmmmm not very clever you lot ive noticed.
Practically speaking, I doubt it is "19 times more powerful". Even a top-end PC isn't 19 times more powerful compared to a PS3. Twice as powerful? Absolutely. Three times or four times as powerful? Sure. But 19 times as powerful? No.
And I sincerely doubt the WiiU will have anywhere CLOSE to the power of a modern gaming PC.
I think the problem is fanboys just want to parade their console of choice while trying to shove it in the "competitor's" face, like the good ol' BluRay vs HD-DVD debate, or the "this game runs in native 720p on 360 but not on PS3" debate. And of course, in ImaginationVille, console gamers are still wishing for the day they can buy a console and it will be as powerful as a gaming PC (lol)
***"console gamers are still wishing for the day they can buy a console and it will be as powerful as a gaming PC (lol)"***
No need to wish. When the PS3 and 360 came out in 05/06 you needed to shell $1000+ for a PC that *matched* those consoles same will happen when the PS4 and 720 release. When those consoles release, gamers would essentially be buying a high-end PC at a bargain price. I know this fact is a bit difficult for PC gamers to swallow (lol).
@Outside: WHAT? LOL. That's definitely not true and is certainly not a fact, it's your opinion. And I can tell you from first hand experience of actually physically doing what you said couldn't be done at that time, that you definitely could. Don't spread lies and false facts.
It is technically correct. Even a lowly GTX 660 is probably 40x the power of the 7800GTX in the PS3. The difference between PC and consoles is that PCs don't use low quality rendering. It looks the same pixel for pixel regardless of what GPU you're running. Rendering without quality loss can take 20x the power and produce only superior sharpness and clarity but not more realism.
The Wii U is more powerful than current-gen, no doubt.
But this is bullshit lol. The PS3 and 360 are around 20x more powerful than last gen. Next-gen definitely won't have the same leap that we had this gen, it'd be too damn expensive.
My perception is that the Wii U is 3-4x more powerful than current-gen, with the NextBox and PS4 coming in at around 6-8x more powerful.
Your wrong m8 its about 10 times it needs to be to have 2 additional screens running the same game same graphics at 480p each end of look at trine dc that has 2 gamepad support and handles native HD/60fps and 2 480p/60fps images on gamepads makes it very powerful doing native at 60fps is already squashing the ps3 but to then handle 2 wii resolution images in realtime at 60fps with HD graphics also is super power trust me.
Its 98 times more powerful and the pad has 124 buttons and a HDMI lead 30 times thicker than the PS3/360 one that runs at 20 times the speed of light. Protective overall is needed to play the wiiU because of the raw power and there is a fire risk, it could burn up into a super nova. Play at your own risk. I can't wait play it, these specs sound amazing. To good to be true. _____________________ (Just joking.)
These Nintendo reps have no relationship with Nintendo other than being on hand to help demo the system at events like this. These are the same reps that tried to tell me, while I was playing the Pikmin 3 demo at Eurogamer, that the game would release this holiday, despite it being confirmed numerous times that it's dropping in Q1 2013 from Nintendo themselves.
This claim is bull, to say the least. Not even the Nextbox and PS4 will be 19x the PS3. These meaningless multipliers need to stop. The proof is in the software after all. Hell even if Wii U was 19x more powerful, why is a simple game like New Super Mario Bros. U running in 720p?
Ridiculous. I'm hyped for the system, but I think people need to ground their expectations a little bit. This won't be the leap we've been waiting for. That won't come until the Nextbox and PS4. You know, and I know it.
Edit: @shock. I wouldn't even put it at 4x current gen. It's got a weaker CPU which was confirmed last month I believe. I'll try to find the source. The 1GB of dedicated RAM is what will really make up the difference, but I wouldn't expect anything that makes the likes of Halo 4 and God of War Ascension look like 1st gen PS2 games in comparison.
Just because it's CPU is clocked lower doesn't mean it's weaker. A Triple Core Broadway clocked at 1.6Ghz could out perform the 3.2Ghz Xenon in a lot of ways. It isn't all about clock speed, if that's what you're talking about.
If the PS4/720 have quad-core CPUs @ 1.5Ghz they won't necessarily be weaker than the Cell/Xenon, that is if you're referring to clock speeds.
I'm a Nintendo fan, but whoever made that power claim was trollin like a muhf...besides, the whole "times" or "X" more powerful is bullsh...
Wii U will be easily more powerful, and b/c of its modern parts & design, will be far more efficient, which is why they still can have a smaller shell case. so until someone dissects the internals, that's all we can go by.
Only thing different is a Rep with little connection to Nintendo made this ridiculous claim LOL but Nintendo does have their fair share of gaffes too. Maybe even as much as the other two.
That's bullocks. What a load of rubbish! Next gen consoles are not going to be that big of a jump, certainly not over the PS3 anyway. Maybe 8-10X more powerful(still very unlikely), since that is about how powerful current gen pcs are compared to the last generation.
That said, I think that John Carmack said that for every time power increases by 10x, we only generally see a 50% improvement in visual fidelity. Take that with a grain of salt since I can't find the quote.
The whole argument about how powerful a console is to me is almost moot. I'm glad the WiiU has the power of four 360's duct taped together I really am but my favorite video game console is sixteen bits. I used to call it the Super Nintendo!
Hopefully the WiiU is the least powerful video game console of the eighth generation of video game consoles. Historically it would tell us that the WiiU will be the victor of the eighth generation of video game consoles because the least powerful always wins! Good luck next time boys!
Impossible, the games that got represented on the Wii U so far haven't present any real graphical push beyond PS360. I'd take this just as exteme PR talk.
Not saying I don't think it is, but its very hard to believe its 19X as powerful, as the PS3.
that what i just wrote, where are the games to back up that statement? because as of today i haven't seen nothing that make me believe what he is saying is true lol.
I think that there's no real way to tell by what margin this thing is more powerful right now. I think we need to see some newer games built for the ground up and for the time being the developers need to get a grasp on the hardware.
With "realistic" I mean what it'd be realistic of Nintendo to aim for considering the price point of the system. I agree it's hard to put a number based on what we know and have seen till now.
I expect Retro to be one of the first to really push it. Hopefully as soon as next year.
I personally thought it would be 6x more powerful than the current consoles, which would mean if the next consoles from Sony and Microsoft were only 5/6x as powerful as their current versions, everything would be pretty even up.
I think the Wii U is going to surprise quite a few people when it comes to power.
LOL. I am a HUGE Nintendo fan, but commmmoooonnnn...No way! I do know that the Wii U is much more powerful than PS3, but I doubt its even 3x more powerful. http://mynintendonews.com/2... The Wii U can do 1080p on games like Black Ops 2 at 60fps, something that the PS3 could not. That does not make it 19xs more powerful though.
19 times? so my simple question is where is that power? because as of today i haven't seen it yet, i see wii u games and they look a little better i mean slightly better than the ps3, 19 times? stop talking too much show me the games.
19× is stupid but if you look at the launch games of the PS3 and the 360 the graphics certainly weren't as good as both of those consoles can produce today. If you look at the WiiU launch you see games that are already out performing the PS3 and 360 that tells me we will be seeing incredible performance of the WiiU in just a couple of years.
A guy I met on the street knows a guy that used to work for a taxi driver that had a 4th cousin that was friends with a Gamestop manager and he told me WiiU will have a built in glory hole.
@ Mansane
I was being sarcastic dude. Just a joke on a tired old internet meme about Nintendo consoles being built out of multiple Cubes taped together.
what the 19x eludes to is that there will be more than 20 launch games.
I mean that really would make the wii-u 19x more powerful than the ps3.
Remember the 360 couldnt even keep up with gamecube/xbox right out the box and look how far that came Hmmmmm not very clever you lot ive noticed.
People would be calling them arrogant, among other things.
PR talk is PR talk.
With games. Not propaganda.

3x SLI 680s is leagues of powerful over the single 7800gtx.
Add in some powerful 6 core or quad core and yea.
15 ps3s duct taped together in terms of power.
play around on some spec sites
http://www.videocardbenchma...
"power levels"
7800 GTX = 571
680 GTX = 4,038
N4G logic, 7800 GTX > 3x 680 gtx's
But this is bullshit lol. The PS3 and 360 are around 20x more powerful than last gen. Next-gen definitely won't have the same leap that we had this gen, it'd be too damn expensive.

it isent possible sorry
it can render the universe and its entire contents in real time then

Microsoft - "achieving a level of visual detail you really get in Toy Story"
Sony - "PS3 will run 4D"
Nintendo - "WiiU 19x more powerful than PS3"

I'd like to be proven wrong.

"nnnnn..no,no no its 19 not 20 or 18" "19's the magic number"
"step in to my office"
"why"
"Because your fukkin fired"
