Snake Eater is amazing, enough said. I seriously don't think I could rank the Metal Gear Solid games. Each and every one of them has been so memorable and wonderful in their own ways. 1-4, they're all masterpieces as far as I'm concerned.

I think Mgs1 had the best story

Peace walker had the best gameplay

Snake eater however has the most awesome theme in a game ever and the second best gameplay

I started late on mgs... Playing bits and pieces ob friends ps2's. When I got my ps3 they bundled mgs4, I played it and really enjoyed it. I then bought mgs1 and played it on my psp, then I got peace walker and the gameplay was great... Put 200 hours in it. Then I got the hd collection for vita and beat both 2 and 3

I personally enjoy the gameplay in the big boss games over the solid snake ones, but that's just me

Looking forward to GZ

Snake Eater has something magic. I couldn´t rank too the MGS games, but the way Kojima told us the story in this game was fantastic. Big Boss, her mentor (The Boss), the surprisingly end. I already ended the game 3 times, and I never get bored. Always find something unique.

Just awesome.

Peace Walker is the best MGS, IMO, but a lot of people will say that MGS4 is.
cpayne93  +   1042d ago
I don't see how anyone can say mgs 4 was the best, it was too actiony imo. Mgs 1 was my favorite since I think it had the best storyline and voice acing, followed closely by Peace Walker.

Peace Walker is huge, and its also one of the best co op games I've ever played. It was honestly owning a psp just for that game.
OcelotRigz  +   1042d ago
I actually never played Co-op in it, it never occurred to me. I remember reading a review and the guy was saying how its a very difficult game to complete by yourself, but i didnt find it so, some of the bosses seemed impossible at first but you eventually found their weakness or a technique to beat them.
That was on the PSP, i have the HD collection now, could you play co-op on that version?

And i agree with a one of your comments below, very addictive game, especially like you said, building up msf. Also it shows an important part of Big Bosses story after MGS3.
cpayne93  +   1042d ago
@OcelotRigz Yeah the hd version has online co op, the menu works the same way as the psp one. I played a bunch of co op games online, but I'm not sure how active it is now.

The storyline wasn't too hard to beat on your own, but for Peace Walker type 2 in extra ops, I had to recruit a buddy of mine. I actually have three close friends who have PW, so i've played a lot of co op. Versus is actually really fun too, going completely non lethal, or two on two in box tanks! Ah, good times...

And PW does give some insight into Big Boss and the development of outer heaven, and the storyline is just really well done in general.
ziggurcat  +   1042d ago
i clicked disagree mainly because the thing i hate so far about peace walker is the bloody micro-managing. i haven't played any of the other portable MGS games to compare how PW is versus the rest of them, but it just seems way too tedious/annoying/unnecessary.

and i've purchased PW twice now... the first time for PSP - didn't finish it because of the lousy controls - and the HD collection - while much easier to play with the dual analog sticks, i'm still struggling to play it because it doesn't flow as nicely as the other MGS games (also, the dumb crew management, trading, the ghost town that is versus mode/co-ops, etc...).

of the MGS games i've played, 3 & 4 are my favourites.
LoLZoRz  +   1042d ago
and yet, it's the best.
OcelotRigz  +   1042d ago
Agreed, MGS3 is my all time favorite game, not much comes close to the experience i had playing that game. Big Boss, The Boss, the bosses (The End!!!), the gameplay, the story, the ending, the soundtrack....all perfect.

I am currently playing on vita and the hd remake with stereo headphones makes it an awesome experience. Just got to the part where the jungle got nuked...

My opinions on the MGS series are so weird and out there that nobody seems to agree with me. MGS4 was the least successful in my eyes. The first 2 acts were brilliant and I loved the classic MGS gameplay with updated controls and mechanics... Then we get to act 3 and the game falls flat on its face and never captures the MGS feeling again. Its all sneaking past robots (I prefer gaurds that you can hold up etc), boss fights, action scenes and that stupid mission following that dude. It is the ONLY MGS game I have not played multiple times.

MGS2 was always my fave, but now I'm older, wiser and played the game from a fresh point of view I have to say MGS3 for me is the most successful. MGS2 will always hold a place in my nostalgia filled heart, but MGS3 is the better game and the best in the series.

MGS3>MGS2>MGS1>MGS4 ... I can easily switch the first 3 games order depending on my mood, but MGS4 stays dead last.

I kinda agree. I like MGS4, loved it as a game, but as a MGS experience it didnt deliver at all. I cant put my finger on it but it just lacked that MGS feeling and like you once i finished i never replayed, actually also like you, i would play the first two acts then just get bored of it.

MGS3 is my favorite no doubt, but i also love MGS2 and the story or Raiden doesn't bother me as much as other people. Cutscene interruptions were a bit too much though in that game, especially in the early part.

Peace Walker was also a huge surprise to me, never expected it to be as good as it was.
-GametimeUK-  +   1042d ago
I guess I should try MGS Peace Walker on my MGSHD collection. I was put off by not being able to crawl, but I guess I'm worrying for nothing. Hopefully I'm pleasently surprised too.
cpayne93  +   1042d ago
I was also annoyed that you couldn't crawl in PW, but once you start playing the game you realize that it is still incredible without it. Biulding up msf is really addictive, and there are so many weapons to unlock. Ever see the fulton mine and fulton launcher?
-GametimeUK-  +   1042d ago
I have barely seen any Peace Walker gameplay, but fulton mine and launcher sounds fun. I guess I will be able to get over the fact there is no crawling and the game is probably balanced around this feature.
Summons75  +   1042d ago
I think this guess missed the memo where it is pretty much one of the best games ever made...Poor soul probably never played it and is missing out on one of the best experiences ever.
Nate-Dog  +   1042d ago
To me MGS4 and Peace Walker were the least successful MGS games as they were not really stealth games. Stealth in Peace Walker was pitifully easy and all the boss battles involved fighting vehicles, or metal gears which seemed more advanced than stuff that was supposed to be made around 30 years later. MGS4's first two acts were decent but even then you didn't need to be that stealthy once you got to the MKII. The enemies were busy fighting the militia and in Act 2 you can often just walk on by without even needing to try and be stealthy.

Cool, thank you. (games im interested in I usually keep on a blackout.) Last thing i knew was them altering Raidens look.
doogiebear  +   1042d ago
Theres no way u really played Peace Walker and beat it, if u ranked it below MGS 4. Peace Walker was incredible and that's exactly why Ground Zeroes gameplay is picking up exactly where that left off.

It's the best one in the franchise.

I like all MGS ^^
- MGS 1 is mind blowing when the 1st time i played it
- Son's of the Libery upgrade the gameplay mechanic (hide enemies body in the locker, cover fire, etc)
- Snake Eater gave more advanced gameplay mechanic (camo system, catch / eating animals instead ration, etc)
- Guns of the Patriot gave more and more advanced gameplay mechanic (octocamo, scout with MKII, upgrade weapons, etc)
- Peace Walker gave moreeeee advanced gameplay mechanic (four co-op, epic metal gear battle, recruit people, etc) even though there's no octocamo.

Overall, i can't wait what Kojima's cooking for Ground Zero ^^

What the hell is this guy on about!? MGS3 was my favorite out of all of them. Sounds to me like he just didn't like the story and really sucked at the game. How the hell do you spend 10 minutes trying to get out of alert mode!? With all the implemented gameplay mechanics in MGS3 I could get out of alert mode in 3 mins. CQC, tranq. gun, camouflage, stun weapons/items. What is this idiot crying about!?
Batzi  +   1042d ago
WTF? Snake Eater is probably one of the best games of all times.
ML_Paladin888  +   1042d ago
this guy obviously is not good at the game. the "extreme" difficulties are the only way to replay mgs games. no radar, game over when spotted, etc.

Surprised, this episode was by far my favorite.

Then again ive only played Snake Eater, Portable Ops and Peace Walker

Snake Eater is the only game that I rank even with, if not slightly higher than, Ocarina of Time. *OoT was the first game to ever blow my mind.

I actually finished Snake Eater for the twenty-somethingth time yesterday. First time in HD, and man it looked better than I remembered.

I loved replaying the game...yet again. I kept having(after all of the times I have beaten it) these "son of a ....." moments when I would catch something that Para-medic or Major Zero would say that gave away the endgame. I mean there is a scene where Ocelot calls Snake "Snake", when he should obviously have no idea that his codename is Snake.... Something tells me that he may be giving me the business.... ;P

I consider Snake eater one of the best games ever made, sure it was a departure from the high tech base infiltration of the first two games but it managed to perfectly capture the kind of rough survival based stealth it was going for.

I can't be too rough on this guy though because I seem to be in the minority that hates MGS4. I mean hate. I hated the fact that most of the stealth consisted of crawling slowly across a wide open field or desert floor to avoid enemies who were standing a hundred meters away looking in your direction, either that or standing up and quite easily slaughtering them with one of the ridiculous amounts of machine guns this stealth game provided us with. I constantly felt like I was being wink and nudged toward playing a clunkier controlled third person Call of duty. Trying to sneak through the early levels felt like sneaking through the Normandy beach landings, only with enemies constantly spawning and respawning all around you.

The MGS games were always extremely cheesy and melodramatic but with the previous games this just felt like a cultural thing. The Japanese often tend to go for overblown iconic characters rather than realistic humans, it just feels like a holdover from their style of theatre and once you get used to it it makes for some beautiful moments (the boss confrontation(s) from MGS3 come to mind) but MGS4 just felt cheesy and overblown in a bad way. When Raiden mentioned it raining on the day he was born and Snake told him, 'you were the lightning in that rain' I cringed so hard I almost broke my back. I don't see how anyone without an emo haircut could watch half of those cutscenes and not want to bite their own face off.

I tried replaying it after playing through and loving the MGS collection, thinking playing them all back to back might give me a better appreciation of it. I made it a fair distance too. I made it past the bosses that lack any kind of strategy, I made it past the hours of emo cutscenes. I made it past the one amazing part of the game (the snowy walk back into Shadow Moses) but I had to give up after taking my time stealth killing my way to a clear room only to find that the enemy had been respawning as fast as I could take them out.

Phew, just had to get all of that out. You may now click disagree or claim I'm trolling and try to take my ability to respond away.

MGS3 came out late in the ps2 life cycle and it was based in the past when we were looking forward to the future. That's why I missed it anyway. But I got it for vita so I'm pumped to play it.
TheDivine  +   1041d ago
Mgs3 is the highlight of the series imo. 4 was the lowest point. Hardly any stealth, machine guns everywhere, retarded story devlopments, shoehorning in Eva and Shadow Moses, the list goes on and on. That said its Mgs and i still love it but it wa a letdown. I played Twin Snakes first, Mgs2 second, and then 3 and 4 respectively. I loved Twin Snakes. Even after playing MGS i prefer Twin Snakes for its updated controls and graphics. I also loved Portable Ops and Peace Walker. I missed the human bosses in PW, the crawling, and other stuff but it was a better made game. I hated draging people back to the trucks. Man i want PO on vita so badly.
