Bet 95% of games will have it anyway
PirateThom  +   673d ago
Then why not just make it a requirement and have 100% of games using it?

Bill Trinen said: “We tend to do it more built into the game itself. What I think is going to be different about Wii U is that you then have the opportunity, through Miiverse, to then share that information.”

The article continues...

You can read into it what you want, but there is no conformation that games will not have a standardized achievement system. What he's focusing on is how those in-game achievements are relayed through Miiverse.

Of course Nintendo not making standardized protocols with minimum standards is F'n stupid. I see this more like how NEAR works on PSV... you still get trophies in game, but only certain in game elements can be shared through NEAR. Anyway, we have to wait for the Miiverse press conference for answers. I sure hope Nintendo does the right thing.

Nintendo stated their opinion on this a while ago I don't know why this is suddenly news. They said they don't want to force it on devs. They want it to be their decision. Nintendo said achievments somewhat take you out of the experience (That's their opinion) but they realize there is a demand for them so they added them, but they left it up to the developer to choose whether or not they want them in there. Seems completely reasonable if you ask me.. if your really that big on achievements and won't buy a game without them i'm sure it will say it on the box somewhere.

Dufuq? Why only disagrees? What i'm saying is fact, I wish I had a photographic memory so I could post a link to the exact article I read but I can't seem to find it, anyways here's one of him saying something similar to this dating back to June 12th. Old news.

Well the PS3 didnt have one at first either so maybe the Wii U get an update later on and implement them. Simple fix. Does seem silly not to have them at launch though.

Casual console confirmed.
PygmelionHunter  +   673d ago
Lack of useless imaginary achievements = casual

But of course! How could I miss that? How will I be able to enjoy gaming anymore after this catastrophe?

So how is it a casual console on the grounds that they don't force achievements on developers?
rainslacker  +   672d ago
Guess that means the PS3 was a casual console when it released then. /s

Actually I'm not really sure if Sony forces achievements from the developer or not right now, so maybe it still is a casual system..../s

That'll be sweet! Imagine playing for example Super Mario and scoring achievements or whatever name they'll have for it :))
HebrewHammer  +   673d ago
I think you may have misread the title :( lol
trage  +   673d ago
collect stars. since super mario 64 started this
GhostHero333  +   673d ago
Really hope they do this for most of the hit titles. And the big multiplatform games.
ChunkyLover53  +   673d ago
They wont force it...at first anyway. I have a feeling its going to be instituted by 99% of developers anyway. Third party games that are multi-platform make Achievements/Trophies anyway, so they can easily implement Nintendo's Accomplishments. I'm sure first party games will also offer these as well.

I think if enough people complain, Nintendo will listen and add them to all games, just like Sony did with the PS3 and Trophies. They weren't there at first, then were optional, but by 2009 they were mandatory. Some people love them, and if you don't like them, it wouldn't make a difference either way. I think they attract core gamer's and add replay value.
rainslacker  +   672d ago
I don't see why it would ever need to be forced. It's not like it's terribly hard to add achievements to games, especially if you plan it from the beginning. Also some people look for them which means an added sale.

Otherwise I do agree with your post.
DivineAssault  +   673d ago
It will be implemented into the games just like 3DS does right? wait which games use it again? If thats the case, wii does it too.. I think xenoblade was the only game to do it.. Miiverse needs to be broken into further detail for me to understand what they mean by all this.. Hopefully the reviews of this system are released shortly before launch.. Im hoping for the best with this one, just not buying it til i see more

Metroid Prime 3 had achievements too.
r21  +   673d ago
What is the wii u's achievement system gonna be? Stars, coins? I am legitimately asking a question here.
DeadlyFire  +   673d ago
Finally someone sees what I see. Achievements mean nothing to me. I don't need a flashcard to tell me I just naded 3 people. Just let me rewind and screenshot that and we have perfection.
cpayne93  +   673d ago
Ya but I like to see what games people on my friends list have played and how much time they were willing to put into the game, gives me an idea of what they like. Hope Nintendo still has something like that going, not sure how the miiverse thing is gonna work.
live2play  +   673d ago
i think achievments/trophis is one of the dumbest shallowest pointless thing to grace gameing

BUT other people enjoy them
so why ruin the fun for them? just because i dont like them

Cool. Give the devs more choices. I like this thought process Nintendo
darkpower  +   673d ago
We'll see in a few months if they go mandatory on such a system, though. We saw how Sony tried this, and it just became a selling point for shitty games while lazy devs with hyped titles never bothered.
samtheseed  +   673d ago
So the developers have the choice? Well, that's good isn't it? If it's a multiplat game and they have the system in place for other systems, then they can just wack it on the Wii U version too!?!?

What's the big deal? Nothin' to see here, move along.
Xander-RKoS  +   673d ago
Super Smash Bros. Brawl had achievements, Monster Hunter Tri had achievements, Final Fantasy the Crystal Bearers had achievements, and Kid Icarus Uprising for 3DS had achievements.

Brawl and Ki Icarus were old school and those achievements gave you stuff in game, so its not like no Nintendo games ever had them. I'm also sure there are than just those.
linkratos  +   673d ago
Thank you Nintendo. I would really hate achievements in the next Mario, Zelda, or Metroid. So annoying. Obviously every 3rd party game will have them since they're forced to waste time on them for the other consoles anyway.
Sephiroushin  +   673d ago
I do no disagree but, why would you hate them ?
If you're a fan it should not bother you, since you're probably going to get them w/o even trying to check which are the accomplishment.
I don't see why people that do "not care" about them get bothered or hates them ...

Wasting time?
Not really, in 10 minutes you can make a list of achievements it's not that hard to think about a list for any game, some other minutes to program it ...

linkratos  +   673d ago
I hate that people actually care about them . Sounds dumb I know, but I think the idea that a developer is required to put in these pointless achievements is beyond stupid. Developers should only put them into the game if they think it will add to the experience (which I have yet to see). It blows my mind that people give more than 2 shits about them. It's even crazier that people are mad they're not required for EVERY SINGLE GAME.

edit:
So I guess I'm mainly more annoyed with people's need for them than the achievements themselves.

young7yang  +   673d ago
good.. achievements are overrated anyway!

back in the day we played games for the sake of playing games not for some stupid trophies.
phantomexe  +   673d ago
Maybe im retarded hear but i dont understand what there saying. So will i be able to look at all my tropies aka achievements on the games that use them and show my friends on the net or no? I'm just not getting there meaning here, they need to show us because evertime they talk about this im more confused then before.
Sephiroushin  +   673d ago
What do you not understand ?
If a game developer want to implement the accomplishments on the game they'll be there for you to see them, but if a game developer choice is not to implement accomplishments then you won't be able to see them (obviously) ... So in the end it's up to the game developer, the system is there but it's up to developers to implement them or not !
LAZL0-Panaflex  +   673d ago
Lame.
3-4-5  +   673d ago
GOOD!

Achievements are a waste. Dev's waste time and resources putting them in game when that money could better be applied elsewhere.

Do you really need a box pop up and tell you that you just beat a Boss in game, " here's a virtual trophy that means absolutely nothing. Congrats ! "

Such a waste of time.
phantomexe  +   673d ago
It's nice to compare them with friends and it can tell you alot about a gamer. It takes nothing from the game nothing at all so your logic is flawed. I've been gameing since the atari and there is know way i'm going back to those days achievements are a standard in games today. 3rd partys will use them if its available to them to use. Think about it AC3 with trophies or without, which version do you think would get played or purchased the most. Seems like a no brainer.
rainslacker  +   672d ago
Regardless of how you feel about achievements they aren't necessarily a waste of time. They aren't hard to implement as most are just a counting of variables thing. Some people look for them, and I know some people back before it was mandatory on the PS3 that wouldn't buy a game that didn't have trophy support, even if it was good, so there is a sales reason for adding them.

I myself have gone trophy hunting when going back to visit a game I've played. I rarely try to get them all in one playtrhough though.

Would be extremely refreshing.
Ben_Grimm  +   673d ago
I love Nintendo's refusal to do what is popular and what the majority of players want in their games.

Come on Nintendo stop trying to be the cool hip renegade and just make some form of standardized achieve/trophy system.
