If you need to reference the phrase 'excellent idea, poor execution' then Bethesda instantly springs to mind...

You only need look to Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Rockstar Games and Konami to understand the PS3 can sing in the right hands.

It is less about hardware intricacies (especially after 8 years with PS3development kits) and alien architecture, and more about developer proficiency....

the PS3 essentially separates the boys from the men when it comes to capable developers who are so spoilt using the same old PC based architecture, they scratch their collective third party heads with anything out of the norm.

So please Naughty Dog...make a killer RPG for PS3 and put this nonsense this (initially, agreed) difficult to develop for' nonsense rest!

Now cosy over to your DX11's

I stuck to the PC version since for bethesda games, PC version usually is least buggy, plus has mods support. But still Both Bethesda AND Sony need to make some changes, esp next gen. bethesda needs to get better QA and better coders, as well need to have better ties with Sony. And for Sony , they have to be much more generous with the hardware, especially memory (like Ram, 8gb be good amount), as well have it easier to develop for..

Just buy it on Xbox? Seems easier solution!

Not only does Skyrim suck in general, but then Bethesda goes and essentially cons people out of 60 bucks. But no, they deserve countless amounts of praise because they managed to make a fantasy world with a bunch of inconsequential quests and broken classes. FUN! I'm so glad Obsidian designed New Vegas just so I could see how badly they outclass Bethesda.

Also, people saying the PC version is far superior: It's still buggy, still an awful game, and mods can't fix that. Mods don't make a game good, they make them a bit more interesting. The designers have no hand in them. Bethesda straight up made a horrible game in Skyrim. They should try, I don't know, innovating the same game they've been rehashing since the 90s.

I'm done with Bethesda for a long while until they get better programmers.

Look at you Xbox folk & PC folk trying to slam PS3 Gamers, We've been given a pathetic version of a game you guys enjoy almost flawlessly.. If you were in our shoes, You'd be ranting & bitching about it as well.

I blame PS3 architecture more than anything, where is Kutaragi now? Devs shouldn't have to spend extra time and money making something run properly.

PS3 came out a year after 360, every multiplat should have looked better than 360 instead of struggling with parity.

If MS had free online they probably would have eliminated Sony from the console race this gen.

Really PS3 success is only due to its free online and not all of its killer exclusive games, hm now I know and knowing is half the battle.

As for Bethesda the PS3 is six years old, they knew what they were getting into if they couldn't developed for it then they should have not released it for PS3 similar to metro and the witcher. But they did knowing full well the game was busted, not only did they lie but they also ripped people off, that is bullshit.

Also I don't see developers like Rocksteady,Dice,Visceral,Dange r Close,Criterion Konami, and Capcom, having issues, hell even valve singing a different tune . So what is Bethesda's excuse.

@ tominator316

Why we would pay it on xbox? are you trolling? Because I'm not some tool who pays to play online and gets ads in return.

Almost feel sorry for them in a way,but moving on i am enjoying playing my Skyrim dlc..

Next time i will do the smart thing and thats waiting to see what sites say about the PS3 version before buying it.

Skyrim was an absolute mess on the PS3 which is why i felt terrible buying it the first day that it came out.

I learnt my lesson well and hopefully i wont have to go through a broken game in my life again.
nihonlight  +   1176d ago
Bethesda LIED ABOUT , HID and released a broken game in a quick cashgrab.
They didn't realize that the ps3 community KNOWS it's not our system.
It's fact that they used about old engine and FAILED TO OPTIMIZE.

The base game is coded so effing bad DLC WILL NEVER WORK.
They need a major engine overhaul.

This isn't Bethesda's fault. The ps3 has a hard time playing games with huge worlds like this. Name 1 exclusive that has a huge living world like Skyrim or Fallout 3? Sony's best exclusives are usually small box linear levels like Uncharted.

Like many real gamers have same before, both the PS3 and the 360 has their pro's and con's. This is one where the 360 outshines the PS3.

And at least for me, this is where it matters the most because Fallout 3 and Skyrim is an experience like no other. Games like Uncharted, Resistance, Gears of War, Halo, God of War 3, etc... are all great games but those games have been around for ages except for a few graphical jumps here and there. Fallout 3 and Skyrim, at least to me, is REAL NEXT GAMING.

No this is all of bethesda fault, did sony put a gun to Bethesda head and said make skyrim for PS3, like I said before they should have not been released it for PS3 in the first place much like witcher and metro because they couldn't develop for it, but they did and launched the game knowing it was broken that's gross negligence and a slap in the face to the paying customer, the PS3 is six years it doesn't matter if its hard to code, they knew what they were getting into. Bethesda has zero excuses and its comments like that makes developer think its okay to release halfass games on any platform and screw over the consumers because they know lemmings will come out and defend them no matter what.
StreetsofRage  +   1176d ago
I see what you're saying and you are right. They should of just kept it on the 360 since the ps3 doesn't have the ram to play a game like Skyrim. And even more so worrisome is the thought that the 360 version was probably gimped because of the ps3.

Games like GTA4, Red Dead, Fallout 3, and Skyrim were all deeply inferior on the ps3 compared to the 360. BTW, the game wasn't "busted" on the 360 version.

Sony should just say "Thanks, but no thanks...maybe next gen"

Ughh! How did bethesda manage to get GotY is beyond me, Batman AC deserved that spot. imo
No_Pantaloons  +   1176d ago
Man, you guys are quick to jump on bethesda when its not even their fault. The ps3 memory problems are really to blame, 256 mb system memory is small for a game like skyrim. There's no magic solution to a hardware issue like that, so cut them a break.

It only proves the next gen systems need to really bulk up on memory if they expect the next gen to last past 5 years.

(And dont bother with the fanboy crap, ps3 is the only current gen system I own, its great for certain games and others I play on my computer, skyrim obviously I got on the latter.)
unworthyBOZO  +   1176d ago
Argh comments like that really hurt my head because of its stupidity again people defending Bethesda just don't get it, Bethesda launched a game for a platform knowing that it was broken and lied about it to the paying customers yes the PAYING CUSTOMERS, people flopped down there hard earn SIXTY DOLLARS for a game that was BUSTED and the developer KNEW IT WAS BUSTED,this isn't a question of hardware but awful business practice's by Bethesda.
No_Pantaloons  +   1176d ago
thx for the personal insult, real classy.

Your own link clearly says they did everything in their power to account for the limitations: "The team knew the PlayStation 3 version could run into a "bad memory situation" and they coded solutions that they felt would work – and in their tests the solutions did work."

But they immediately patched it, and patched it again, and they're still working on it: "There are still going to be some people who have to come back to us and say, 'Ok, my situation is this.' [Our response is:] 'OK, send us your saved game.'"
"Expect things to improve, one step at a time."

Now dawngaurd has added many new problems for them to solve, only this time they're holding on to it so less people will have issues when it finally is released, but again players are mad. Everything points to them working their ass off.

Just because it doesn't meet your expectations doesn't mean it's some grand conspiracy to rob consumers of their hard earned cash.

Lol VGA's GOTY... what a joke.

What I think is funny is that most Devs either lead on ps3 or have very solid Multi-platform engines and you don't see all these issues for the most part pop up in their games so Bethesda cant claim its too hard as other devs have either rose to the challange or made the necessary optimizations to their engines.
hellvaguy  +   1176d ago
2 words for you:

1.) Cell
2.) Processor

So glad the Ps4 is not using that ever again.
sway_z  +   1174d ago

Yes I will keep thinking.....thinking about how Sony spoil their users with awesome games, thinking about how the PS3 offers free online play.....and I'm thinking you should not make assumptions about ppl, and yes it (PS3) is overall the best system out of the current consoles on the market.

....don't feel too insecure about that ;)
