Paste writes: Games are games, and movies are movies, and never the twain shall meet—in a good review. There’s some key element that is consistently lost in creation, and there have been more wrecks than many of us care to admit. But with adaptations of popular titles like Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, Halo, Shadow of the Colossus, World of Warcraft and so many more hanging in the balance, we’re reminded that Hollywood isn’t slowing its conquest anytime soon. Can they learn from their consistent mistakes of bad actors, worse plotlines and laughable special effects? We hope so. Just in case, here’s a little reminder with our top 10 worst game-based movies. Cover your PlayStation’s eyes, for god’s sake.
VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "In one sense, it feels strange to even think Pieces Interactive had big shoes to fill with this series' legacy. Given what's come before, did it really? And yet, even when considering the last two flops over a two-decade span, there's still something about Alone in the Dark emblazoned on a title screen that carries a sense of revered history. In that respect, perhaps this reboot's best accomplishment is in honoring that spirit through its inventive world. It's also fair to emphasize knocks against its survival-horror design, some puzzle-solving, and so on; it certainly won't be considered a trendsetter like the 1992 classic. Still, the amount of goodwill wedded to its brighter qualities makes for something that dawdles the line between unfortunately-flawed and impressively-enticing."
The new Alone in the Dark remake doesn't do anything especially noteworthy, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just... cromulent.
The original Alone in the Dark - hailing all the way back from 1992 - is re-imagined with Unreal Engine 4. The story and puzzle elements are dramatically overhauled, where PS5, Series X and S strive for 60fps gameplay in a decent performance mode. However there are technical rough points to this release which detract from what could be a much better game.
series S performance mode, 800x450p - 1600-900p
so NEVER hits 1080, and goes as low as a ps2.
this consoles dead to me
Both Silent Hill and Prince of Persia were decent movies, I felt.
Hell, I didn't even hate Max Payne or Doom. They definitely weren't good movies, but I didn't think they were horrible.
Silent Hill was great and so was Postal. (Postal isn't even on the list but it was still great)
Doom was pretty bad but it was hilarious because it was bad so I guess I enjoyed it.
The rest, yeah they were terrible
Silent Hill was a freaking great movie, even if i didnt like the games i would have thought it was an awesome flick, i think i like the movie better than the last few SH games for sure!
The Hitman movie was pretty great too imo!
I don't really agree with Silent Hill being on the list.
Personally, I quite enjoyed the PoP movie, wasn't half bad, only problem is that it was such a good adaption, it left little originality in the storyline department and just turned out to be a retelling of 'Sands start to finish.
