At the moment, unless a game is ridiculously cheaper online, I buy a physical version. That way I have some value if I ever decide to sell the game 2nd hand. Downloads do have the advantage of never having to worry about losing or damaging the disc, as well as being instant, and not taking up any space, so both have their advantages.
I have to say, I'm pretty luke warm to the idea, but Sony's certainly been making it easier for PSN+ members to warm up to digital downloads with all the free games they throw around. I would buy the odd PSN or XBL game every now and then, but I've got 6-7 full games downloaded and installed on my PS3 now due to the offers available to PSN+ members. I might not have considered downloading big games before, but for older games now that probably wouldn't have any resell value, I'll grab those digitally now.
I usually buy from retail, but since I'm an hour away from an eb games or whatnot, I do get tempted into getting them off the psn store. I have gotten a few. But physical copies I prefer.
I like the idea of not having to visit Gamestop I'd rather not be hassled with the inevitable question of a preorder usually the first thing they ask me. Maybe cause I've preorderd a couple games before. Then they try and get me to buy used, even when I tell them I want it new. Then sometimes they have no new copies of a game I want, but always plenty of used ones. Not fond of the experience at all. I usually go in knowing what I want so their job is to give me what I want quick and easy. I even get asked to renew my Power-up rewards card that expired months ago. Then on top of that it's a 30 min drive there and 30 min drive back which takes up about 2 gal of gas. It's much simpler to just click a couple buttons wait a few and play without having to leave my couch I don't even have to put pants on!
On PC we have platforms like Steam that give crazy amount of discounts on games after 2-3 months of release.
If you cant wait that long then recently there is another cool site that gives large preorder discounts on PC games. http://www.greenmangaming.c...
The preorder discounts on that site can be insane.
