@Nitro, it would take a lot more than a direct DDoS to take down live completely, but with the correct planning it's very possible. The load balancers would be doing their jobs by redirecting pings, but if there's enough of them it can overload it all.

I'm going to tell you that 7 out of 10 times I go to network under my xb1 settings it's going to say there is something wrong with the core gaming or some sort of marketplace issue. I don't know what changed from the 360 to the xb1 but ms is really starting to piss me off. I had enough of this crap last gen. If they can't provide a stable service I'll just go with ps4. Yeah they may have an issue right now but with xbl it's constant. The xb1 is an excellent system but these xbl issues are really getting out of hand.

I write in parenthesis often as it implies the written part is more of an inner thought. Sorta kinda. I've been critiqued for it before (as I said I'm not perfect). At least, people get what I'm writing and it's more of a english writing styling error and not a fundamentally incorrect approach. Most attacks seem to be originating in China (and for some reason Western Africa (around Liberia and south)) I'd imagine those are just being routed from China.

It is mostly aimed at larger cities (LA, NY, maybe Dallas.)

Parts of Europe are getting them and some in Australia.

The US is mostly attacking China. It is odd, but it is interesting to watch. Don't know what is going on.

It probably could handle more than PSN, but honestly, they had a 15 years head start of charging people to play online. So you'd expect it wouldn't be down for long.

As more people invest in PS+, it'll get better. They'll reinvest it in more servers and back-up servers to avoid these mind of scenarios.

It would not. The only thing that really screws people is when the login/authentication servers go down. Then you are screwed from signing in. They have had this in the past.

Netflix never loads for me on the 360. After they updated the app it's useless. I call Netflix and they blame MS. MS in turn blames Netflix. The PT worked for awhile and now I get the same connectivity error so I know it's Netflix.

My son has been online with his X1 all day and I got online on my X1 when I got home from work. My son was playing COD and in Party-Chat, and I had about 30 friends online.

Microsoft, has these notices up all the time. If a few people get effected they announce it. I play games fine even when i see Social and gaming is limited.

If this was DDOS attack. x box live would be completely down for everyone.

Party chat has lot of issues for whatever reason on x box 1, but for 99 per cent of the time, it works.

Yeah whatever you say. XBL has been hit and miss since the Preview program started due to XBL and XB1 being upgraded so often with multiple OS running on XB1's with different features. Lives core services are restored. Gaming and chat are still limited, and seem to be limited to only chat in Diablo III. I doubt this was the same sort of attack on PSN, but instead something else. Who knows? Is anyone able to anything on PSN yet? Mine is still down (East coast).

Xbox live is having some problems too - hackers are targeting it now so those problems may worsen. Bashing the platform you don't like will get you bad karma. Xbox Live and PSN have been far from perfect over the past year, both have had their issues. The guys that did this are cyber terrorists - no platform is immune from their bs.

Im actually on my X1 right now typing, so XBL is up for me atleast. Wish i could say the same for my PS4. My friend works at 10pm which is in 3 and a 1/2 hours, i hope it comes back on soon. I really wanna play TLOU mp with him! Im jonesin haaaard.

I think it's only the PS4 servers that are not working , my Vita and PS3 work fine but my PS4 crashed this morning about 5am was playing PvZ all night... I had to re-install to get it running again but can't not download my games again until PSN starts working again. And my XOne earlier was acting up but now it's fine..... I hope they catch these losers... And how dumb can u be to call in a bomb scare... To make people panic like that... I'm a retired cop that got hurt during 9/11 ... I lost a lot of great friends and almost lost my life... And for someone to play around like that will be locked up, it just a matter of time... XBL has been having issues for at least the past week. I've been on xbox.com pretty much every day since a week ago checking the status of my XB1 repair (long story) and it's always said XBL is having issues on the site. I thought maybe this was something to do with core services but they're just making an article of out nothing due to what's going on with PSN. Only issue I've had is once it randomly signed me me out of XBL and I immediately was able to sign back in. Besides for that everything seems to be working on my end. Hope PSN comes up soon though, I want to play BF4.

Agreed...totally pathetic. As soon as the attack on PSN happened, I knew if XBL didn't suffer any great service issues, people would find a way to make it seem like there were problems.

You can pretty much guarantee on any given day that there will be some type of service alert posted on Xbox Support. It's a big planet people, and XBL covers a lot of territory. Even if it's a really small issue, affecting a very small number of users, there will be an alert posted.

A few people on NeoGaf even tried to get this XBL outage BS rolling, but it failed, because even the Gaffers knew there was no story. And let me tell you, if a negative Xbox story can't get going on Gaf, then you can be certain there's no truth to it.

As I said in my other post, my son was online with XBL all day yesterday, and I was on for most of the evening. Everyone I spoke to had absolutely zero issues, and I've got friends all over the USA and Europe.

I personally don't believe XBL got attacked yesterday, but if it did, it passed the test with flying colors.

It's enough with the console war already, let it go, enjoy your piece of plastic and let others enjoy theirs. PSN got attacked and went down, so what, it's OK, it's back online and Sony will take steps to improve their network. There's no need to deflect attention.
