Celebrating the Sega Genesis As It Turns 25 Years Old

The Genesis, true to its name, was the dawn of a new era, not only of graphics and sound, but of the kind of attitude and maturity we see in games today. Without Genesis, the home video game console industry might not have grown up as fast as it did. All gamers owe thanks to Genesis for the influence it cast over the future of the entire gaming industry.

It truly is one of the greatest consoles in gaming history with two of the best slogans ever coined.

"Welcome to the Next Level" and "Genesis does what Nintendon't"

I loved the difference in sound/music bewtween the Sega Genesis & the SNES. Sega had a more Bubbly Tinny metallic sound to it, but it was very 80's/90's.

SNES had a more sampled instrument sound, but slightly more clean.

So many exclusives for the Genesis, even some of the bad games were still fun to play.

I 100% agree with you on this, darthv72.
So glad you appreciate true greatness.

My Sega Genesis still works up to this very day. And it says there "High Definition Graphics" HD Graphics predating the PS3 and Xbox 360.

John Montana Football = best game ever. Loved getting the kick offs and running right along the sidelines and the computer couldn't touch you. I used to just run laps around the field!

What's funny and sad is this poll from gamefaqs. almost as many who never owned a sega system as there are who only owned the genesis.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken22d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake23d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
