The Top Two Metacritic Games in 2014 Will Be 2013 Titles

It’s almost a guarantee at this point: The top two – possibly three – best games in 2014, according to Metacritic, will be games we’ve already seen before.

starchild3546d ago

There are lots of fantastic-looking games coming out this year. I think it would be best to just wait and see how they turn out before making any proclamations.

I'm really looking forward to Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4, LittleBigPlanet 3, Assassin's Creed Unity, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Dragon Age Inquisition, Destiny, Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor, Evolve, Lords of the Fallen, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, and a few more that I am probably forgetting.

Palitera3546d ago

Alien: obviouly bad game.
LBP: always great.
Unity: Ubisoft. Can be great or suck. I'd bet on mediocre again. Also comes out every year.
Ehan Carter. Really?
Inquisition: lol
Destiny: overhyped and uninspired Borderlands, but given the year, GotY contender.
Shadow of Mordor: looks awesome.
Evolve: you're joking, right? Not in the mood for ultra repetitive games.
Lords of the Fallen: can it be the first above horrible game from those devs? I think so, but still...
Lara: yeah.

FC3 expansion on the Himalayas seems great and there's sunset overdrive.

I don't call it "lots of fantastic-looking" games.

TheTowelBoy3546d ago

Besides shadow of Mordor and the Inquisition(only one month delay) this year really has been. Nearly every anticipated game was delayed, ITS HILARIOUS.

DasTier3546d ago

I hope the MCC tops them, but then that would be even worse for remakes vs new games.

bleedsoe9mm3546d ago

if TLoU remastered got 10's we should see some 11's for MCC just for pure value in the massive collection

medman3546d ago

@bleedsoe9mm
You poor, misguided soul. Ellie kicks the chief's a$$ all over creation. Ellie is unstoppable.

bleedsoe9mm3545d ago

@medman no doubt last of us was a great game , but the MCC is 4 great games , actually i downplayed it for the sony crazies only giving it a 11 , should probably get a 39/10 (1 point off for halo 4)

SoapShoes3545d ago

Sooooo you're saying The Sly Collection, Jak Collection, Ratchet Collection should all have had 10s? I guess the GOW Saga should have had the highest meta rating ever because it had 5 games?

bleedsoe9mm3545d ago

@SoapShoes personally i don't think remastered games should get rereviewed (unless they are a complete remake) , but if they are going to do it , 4 great games in one package is better than 1 great game .

I think, as dumb as it sounds, that it helped TLOU to be remade this year. I think TLOU:RM does better in 2014 because the original came out in 2013 and the way the console market broke in Nov 2013, it left an incredible opportunity for THAT GAME specifically (TLOU) to do be received well.

I don't TLOU scores "95" average if released in 2023. The hype from last year propelled the remastered editions success, IMO.

MCC won't be received as well because in reality, it's 4 games:
1) Halo CE remastered (already released, no changes)
2) Halo 2 remastered (new, 100% redone - the only "new" game in the entire collection
3) Halo 3 - no changes, exact same as X360
4) Halo 4 - no changes, exact same as X360

Looking at it like that, MCC will probably be received well but I doubt the Metacritic score tops 92... there's only 25% "changed" content. How can a literal re-release, no updates no changes... just sold again, be scored high?

MelvinTheGreat3546d ago

Halo 3 and 4 will be 1080p 60fps so its not the same as xbox 360 version

Vegamyster3546d ago

@MelvinTheGreat

If i recall correctly 343 said all 4 games will be 1080p 60 fps

LAWSON723546d ago (Edited 3546d ago )

Yeah let's ignore how the game connects every Halo game into a single multiplayer experience. Let's ignore how a Slayer 4v4 playlist alone will have at least 75 maps to choose from in one match making playlist. This collection gets so understated, it is an ultimate Halo collection that offers a brand new exclusive experience.

Let's also forget halo 2 now has forge and Halo 2 is available to play online for the first time on consoles.

TheTowelBoy3546d ago

@Lawson72.you just made me even more excited for the MCC than I was lol I'm picking up the One when it hits. (*^o^*)

LAWSON723546d ago

@thetowelboy

Glad to hear I hope you enjoy it.

I am just tired of all these people who act like this collection is just a remade halo 2 and the same old games. They completely ignore the fact that the game is going to be a brand new experience not just some copy paste at 1080p/60fps. It is the best deal of the year and a collection no Halo fan should pass up. If 343i supports the community well this may become an unstoppable monster like Halo 2 and 3 were.

This is going to be a new chance for millions to reignite the MP phenomenon known as Halo that with age have lost its fire. Halo 1, 2, and 3 (4 is on life support) are dead and on old hardware with no chance of revival for those who miss the good old days this is a chance to reexperience it again which these days really is not possible.

Whoever believes this is nothing special really does not know anything about Halo.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U end up being the highest rated new game for 2014

joydestroy3546d ago

what about Farcry? or even Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. i have high hopes for both of those.

brotherlymoses3546d ago

I already played the last of us and GTA V last year, so I don't feel like playing them again, plus, the mutiplayer sucks for those games, so I'm not interested. But I'm really excited for MCC, can't wait to play halo 1,2 and 3 online, but I'm most excited for halo 2 anniversary campaign and mutiplayer!

Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…

Profchaos36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

MetalGearsofWar36d ago

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

sagapo36d ago

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

Zhipp36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

jznrpg36d ago

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos36d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
