The Wii U 2014 Recap

Fans have predicted that 2014 would bring success for Nintendo and the Wii U, but we’re halfway through the year and they’re still failing to turn a profit. The Wii U has a few great games on it, but not enough to foster interest and rival the sales of 3DS and PS4.

This article would be more appropriate at the actual end of the year, when the rest of this year's great games have come out for it and are ready to be judged.

It's also taking the fact that it's not up to PS4 sales as a point of absolute failure, which is going overboard.

We really need to stop approving articles like this...

Why do you feel comparison of sales to a rival console is not valid?

wonderfulmonkeyman3555d ago (Edited 3555d ago )

Comparison of sales isn't the issue. It's fine to do that.
Phrasing it so that it sounds as if not matching the sales of rival consoles automatically makes it a financial failure, when it hasn't even gotten the majority of its heaviest hitters, however....

InTheLab3555d ago

He did nothing but gush over WiiU games and you think there should be less articles like it because he points out the WiiU is getting crushed by a rival?

And your nitpicking of phrasing makes you sound defensive, especially when it's the truth.

The article basically states what's obvious. The heavy hitters are here and people still haven't gone out to support the console so far. What's so wrong about this article other than pointing out how the console is still struggling?

wonderfulmonkeyman3555d ago

The heavy hitters aren't "Here" yet.
Mario Kart is one of several, and the article does mention them, but presents them out-of-context against the statement of the header in favor of a sales comparison that does little else other than point out that the author believes that anything less than beating the PS4 automatically makes it a failure, which is false.

Also, this is presented, via the header, as a 2014 recap, not a "middle of the year" recap.

With Smash Bros not out until Q4 2014, this quarter is going to be a tough one for the Wii U.

Nor is Smash Bros as big as Mario Kart.

Let's see if they can shift another 3 million consoles by the end of March 2015.

wonderfulmonkeyman3554d ago (Edited 3554d ago )

With two different versions of Smash coming, and games like Bayonetta 1 and 2 and Hyrule Warriors backing them up, I don't think it's far-fetched at all to see them shift the small amount of units left that they need to, in order to hit that 3.5M mark they intend on hitting.

It'll all come down to how well they advertise things.

Knushwood Butt3553d ago

3 million units is not a small amount. That's 1 million every 3 months.

wonderfulmonkeyman3553d ago

They've already made a substantial amount towards that goal, though, IIRC.

The Wii U "halfway through 2014 so we can get some extra hits to our site Recap"

- Aren't "RECAPS" meant for the "END" of the year?

InTheLab3555d ago

So you didn't read the article? There's no WiiU bashing here.

"2014 was to be the year that the Wii U turned itself around and brought out the big guns. As of yet, only one of these guns has packed any punch. Let’s hope that in the next six months, we see Nintendo fans taking out their wallets and plunging into the newest batch of Ninty goodness."

Stop being so defensive and read more than the header....

Did I say there was Wii U bashing in here?
