Zelda U Will be “in an endless world without barriers”

Zelda Informer: "A few days ago we reported about some new information from the official Japanese website for Zelda U. Essentially, the information claimed there was a new Link and more interestingly, a new villain. As with anything that requires translations, mistakes do happen. We trusted MyNintendoNews with the initial translation and in doing our own research with our translation team (combined with our own fanbase), we can confirm their is zero confirmation if there will be a new villain or not, or even if this is a new Link.

However, what we did learn is also rather exciting depending upon how you want to slice it."

These words just made me really hyped for this game.

Gazondaily3549d ago

I wouldn't take them literally because the world will not be endless.

It's marketing speak. See for yourself:

"In an endless world without barriers, the biggest one in the series yet, Link will encounter new mysteries and tough enemies"

Knightshade3549d ago

Exactly - the only world without barriers is Temple Run.

Metallox3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

@Knightshade I know, in Temple Run you can explore freely. /s.

mcgrottys3549d ago

@knightshade

Minecraft PC is essentially endless.

MSBAUSTX3549d ago

It might be set up like a literal planet where if you head in one direction enough you will come full circle back to where you started. Interesting concept if it is true.

jcnba283549d ago

Like a globe literally? Has that ever been done before in a video game? That would be pretty awesome if true.

Vegamyster3549d ago

Wind Waker was like that.

DiscoKid3549d ago

Most JRPG overworlds are like that as well.

Chrono3549d ago

That's so 2000. Here's the real revolution: http://youtu.be/nLtmEjqzg7M

MSBAUSTX3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

Wind Waker essentially did this but they used water as a filler because they didnt have the resources to make all land like they wanted to. The Wii U has given them those means. But I think giving it a sphere shape, if it is too small, would not work. It would have to be on a large scale. Just a thought. A literal planet would give it more of a feeling that you are in a different world a literal world of Hyrule and or whatever universe it is in. Open world denotes no bounderies and free exploration. Morrowind was considered to be open world but you cam to and ocean and then there was nothing. Give this loz an ocean but a means to cross to the other side where the land connects to the rest of the planet in some way. This concept might require PC muscle to make real but I forsee open world games going this way. Destiny is the first endeavor into this concept. It would fit great in to a LOZ game

Skyrim is endless in that yoy can do endless quest so you can play forever if you like. I wouldn't mind this in Zelda especially with a swift horse to traverse the world!

MSBAUSTX3549d ago

Yeah as long as there is a means of transportation and quests gerneration the world can be very large. There was a beautiful horse in the E3 trailer. Elder Scrolls Morrowind was that way with its transportation system and that was a huge island to walk across. However with the ram the Wii has and the art style they are choosing to use I dont really see why it cant be a huge world with the same generation that Skyrim has. You put those elements in to a LOZ game and you will give me a delima when it comes to my love for LOZ versus an Elder Scrolls games. They are slightly different in their adult content but Nintendo knows how to make an entertaining LOZ and the last two I would say were slightly more adult that usual. I am very much hoping they go for a long haul experience with this one. I have never been disappointed though so I am sure I will enjoy to some degree whatever we are given.

Sly-Lupin3548d ago

Fetch quests aren't real "quests."

Quests have to be written. They can't be randomized. That's just padding.

3-4-53549d ago

That would be AWESOME! Seriously.

Chrono3549d ago

Miyamoto said it's not open world.

Vegamyster3549d ago

"I prefer not to use the generally used term “open world” when developing software, but we used this term at E3 in order to make it easier for consumers to understand. This term means that there is a large world in which players can do numerous things daily."

Sly-Lupin3548d ago

Or, rather, there's the problem of consumers generally not being able to discern (or even be aware of) the difference between "open world" and "sandbox."

WeAreLegion3549d ago

Randomly generated dungeons would be fantastic!

Metallox3549d ago

Like in Pikmin 2? Hmmm... might be interesting, but the dungeons could be repetitive as hell and nearly without puzzles.

Fullmetalevolust3549d ago

I believe there will be plenty enough to explore and it will feel endless at first, but eventually, and hopefully there'll be hubs where one can rest and also teleporting devices/items to go from one part of the world to another.
I am so hyped for this game, it's action adventure with a real bit of exploration. Paint me excited!!

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno69d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic100d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon100d ago (Edited 100d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast100d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul100d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

Zelda Fan Brings Godzilla to Life in Tears of the Kingdom

A fan of The Legend of Zelda has recreated the iconic Japanese monster Godzilla in Tears of the Kingdom using the game's Zonai devices.

Knightofelemia138d ago

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
