QuakeCon have always been about PC gaming so it's understandable when someone appear to promote stuff that won't appear on the PC will get no warm hugs and cheers. Consoles edged out the PC from E3 with the 360 and PS3 so seeing next gen console stuff on other PC-centric conventions is worrying.

^^^ The booing was more because of the Xbox One (back then it was before the 180s) as opposed to booing the game. Many people were really excited for Killer Instinct, it's just the excitement couldn't let them look past all the flaws with the Xbox One's initial vision.

At the top sites the ps3, the 360 and the PC the consoles with a lot of experience and love behind them.

Contrary to what everyone says, if you play a game on a console, a phone, a calculator or go on twitter, you are a gamer. I wouldn't boo a console or company out of a conference hall because i don't own them, that's just weird but it's the same amount of weird that comes from most gamers. Ok this is QuakeCon bro not E3. Dont mention xb1 or any console when you are sitting in a room full of Core PC Gamers and Steam is on the big screen.

(Yes some consolers were there, i spoke to 2 of them and gave them PC building advice)

Wolfenstein, Quake, Doom are the foundation for FPS and all utilized the PC unique abilities (at that time) to make for revolutionary gaming experience.

So pluggin the XB1 was the worst out of the 3 because Microsoft's DirectX Box represents MS turning its back on PC Gaming and being a follower when they use to be a one of a few innovative leaders in the gaming biz.

Sony PS4 was mentioned and it wasnt booed or cheered as PC Gamers nodded with respect to a company (Sony) and a machine thats delivering the best console experience the correct way since day PS1. Sony never ditched their Core audience ulike MS who ditched PC Gamers then ditched Xbox fans with that Kinect thing.

Ditching your core audience twice and Games For Windows Lousy will get you booed until MS recognizes its mistakes.

This isn't about consoles this is about PC gamers long history with Microsoft. Much longer than Xbox gamers history with them.

MS abandoned the PC gaming platform to make their own gaming platform and still have to this day.

They've been doing everything they can to bring down PC gaming from buying out Bungie so PC gamers didn't get the Halo franchise, closing down Ensemble Studios who made the best RTS games on PC and then bringing out the abomination that is G4WL.

And now they want to make everything ok and come back to PC gaming. No wonder they got booed.

Did you forget Sony tried to destroy gaming when they charge $599 for a PS3 and forcing a Blu Ray drive on everyone. PS3 was more expensive and it ended up not as powerful as the cheaper 360? Funny how that works, Sony told us to get 2 jobs.. and since gaming is for kids, what kid is going to get 2 jobs? MS had a different view but still offered us a console with a great controller/service/games for a reasonable price. Full digital gaming requires DRM that's the price we have to pay to go down that track.

@Azzanation Im sure with the Xbox 360 once you buy everything that is needed for it (before slim) would cost you more than a PS3 at launch. Xbox $400 Wireless adapter $99.99 Hard drive $99+ Wireless controler + play and charge kit $75 +.
Thats like $730 with Xbox live. So no the Xbox was not cheaper, it just looked cheaper.

So true. Also i always wanted that green OG Xbox. I also remember the Xbox 360 costing more to run that the fat PS3. I had the 360 first and spent close to $800+ on the console. WiFi adapter, wireless controller, Play and Charge Kit, Hard drives, and Xbox live. Although i preferred the Xbox at the time I also played a lot of PC games back then. I was lucky the have 2 gaming PC's growing up. One was a AMD k6-2 with a Voodoo 3. The Other was a Pentium 4 3.02Ghz with HT, ATI 9800 pro 128MB, Creative labs Audigy 2, and 1GB of Rambus memory. That was a kick ass system I could Run Halflife 2 Max settings at 1200x1600 with Anti-aliasing at 2x.

Funny how microsoft is the bad guy for being honest and telling gamers about their DRM plans, and actually listened to them when they voiced opposition. Yet Sony had the EXACT SAME DRM planned, and after watching what happened to Microsoft, they quietly went about removing it via the day 1 patch. It hurts deep inside, I know, but you can't just put Sony on the same level as Microsoft when it comes to trying to screw people over. It's just not possible.

Microsoft made a bunch of mistakes, told us they were right and we were wrong, and then said we didn't understand even after they rectified the mistakes. So even IF Sony had done the same- which they did not; Google the damn stuff and stop perpetuating lies- they never went as far as all that.

To that end, part of the booing received here was about their screwups in the PC arena. Though it also had to do with promoting a console-related anything at such a gathering.

Just this week I played Titanfall with some friends on Xbox One, then some Mario Kart 8 with the kids and to top it off with some Destiny beta on PS4. One of the the big things things PS fans went after Xbox fans last gen was about the need to pay for online, yes the instant game collection is great value for those who either haven't played those games or are interested in them but personally I'd rather have the option, right now on the Humble Bundle you can pick up $234 worth of games for $20 or $174 worth for $8.25 so its not like other platforms don't get good deals.

I don't think anyone understands. Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network don't run like Steam or Origin. You're using THEIR servers to play most of these games. Steam is the service with which you purchase these games, but most PC games are running on servers created by the developers. Nintendo will follow suit if they ever have a proper online network.

It's also because the last time MS and Live had anything to do with PC gamers, was when they tried to pull the charge you to play online bs many moons ago. Unlike the xbox sheep at the time praising MS, and waxing poetic about how wonderful it was they had to pay a toll to play online, PC gamers got Games for Windows Live shut down permanently within short order.

The booing was probably more for showing an advertisement for the Xbox Live version of the bundle in front of a bunch of PC gamers. But don't blame it on just PC gamer elitism. PC gamers had to live with Games For Windows Live (GFWL), a thankfully faded history of one of the worst things shoved up PC gamers' rear ends. GFWL now stands as a historical travesty in the history of PC video gaming.
