Is Diddy Kong Racing 2 a Good Idea?

From GamesReviews:

"Last week, rumors surfaced on the Internet from industry insider Kevin Callahan that Diddy Kong Racing 2 was a real thing, and that it was currently in development for the Nintendo Wii U.

"There are a few questions which need to be answered: do we need a Diddy Kong Racing sequel, and how can it be successful?"

Man, if they pulled it off right I would absolutely love a second one.

I also would love a Diddy Kong Racing, or as I've said before, Mario Kart would work great as a spiritual successor. After Mario Kart 8 what can they do anyways? They already did antigravity, so I would love it if they just skin Diddy Kong Racing as Mario Kart and make it.

Also how awesome would it be to have Diddy Kong Racing tracks with antigravity, and classic Mario Kart tracks redesigned with Planes and Hovers in mind.

I don't know, but for me it makes sense and I think it would be awesome.

The sequel they had planed for GameCube before MS bought Rare, had you racing on the back's on animals like the rhino and ostrich from DK Country. So I hope it's that.If you Google it you will find pic's and maybe even some video.

What I really enjoyed about DKR was the single player because you weren't just racing the whole time. You had a hub world where you had different tasks to do as well as the racing. So yes I think a sequel would be great!

Neoninja3562d ago

I would love to see a DKR2. It was such a fun game and I really enjoyed the adventure mode which although basic added to it. It's one of the main reason why I like it better than Mario Kart. I also enjoyed the different vehicles and the music was awesome! The Dino challenges, silver coins, WizPig, it was all great.
I really do hope this rumor has substance to it cause I'd be first in line to buy Diddy Kong Racing 2.

Let me be clear, if it's not made or supervised by Retro in any kind of way, then I don't have any problem with the development of a sequel.

Retro should, at the very least, make another 3D Donkey Kong game, a racing game is not ambicious enough for me, even if DKR was very special because you could do more than just racing.

It's a good idea because so far we've only had one Kart game per gen by Nintendo and that's been Mario Kart. Cyling between Diddy Kong and Mario Kart will give us more Kart racing goodness.

Only thing they have to worry about is how they separate the titles to make them feel completely different from each other.

Diddy Kong Racing: Nintendo's Other Kart Racing Series With 100% Less Wario

While the genre may currently be an oversaturated one, it’s interesting to look back on how the Donkey Kong franchise even got a racer to begin with, and what stopped Nintendo from ever releasing more entries.

Man, this would be the perfect title to bring next to the Nintendo 64 lineup on Nintendo Switch Online. This game was so good back in the day.

GOAT, best game of all time, never got the updated version / sequel is so much deserved,

sometimes though, as they say "never meet your heroes" to avoid disappointment,

so I look at it as, best left in the past and just enjoy the memories.

The_Hooligan59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

Really was a phenomenal game. I still remember being at my cousin's house and unlocking the spaceship, our minds were blown lol

Also hated that damn blubber the octopus boss.

EasilyTheBest59d ago

One of my all time favourite games

TheEnigma31359d ago

This was better than Mario Kart 64 but far for me. I loved the different vehicles and adventure aspect.

Number1TailzFan59d ago

The single player was by far better than MK64, not sure about the multiplayer as I don't recall playing DKR with someone else.

The thing I noticed with DKR was that the enemy racers seem to hardly use power ups against you, but they are pretty aggressive in keeping pace or passing you so maybe that's why they made them use power ups less than MK.

FinalFantasyFanatic59d ago

I always remember DKR being hard as a kid compared to MK64, but I mostly played MK64 as a multi-player game, whereas DKR had a satisfying single player mode.

DarXyde59d ago

Absolutely loved DKR. Mario Kart, as much as I love it, has yet to really capture the magic of DKR. Better in some ways, worse in others.

Nintendo Classic Diddy Kong Racing Turns 25 Years Old In A Fit Of Nostalgia

Diddy Kong Racing, a Nintendo 64 title turns 25. Here to indulge in nostalgia and remember some of the title's amazing features.

Snookies12510d ago

I was downright addicted to this game when I was younger. Even among the countless classics the N64 spawned. This is near the top of my list, for favorites. I just love the hub world mechanic, where you have to unlock collectables to open up new areas. Something so satisfying about that...

corpsemaker510d ago

Exactly! The hub world was pretty unique for its time. Racing vehicles other than karts was a super cool element as well.

FallenAngel1984510d ago

Banjo & Conker also become 25 since their debut

Crows90510d ago

Freaking amazing game. I'm not into these games anymore but this is one I'd play again. Also Fzero and I can't remember the name but this car shooting games of pure destruction.

Number1TailzFan510d ago (Edited 510d ago )

Yeah most racing games tend to try to copy Mario Kart instead of DKR, Mario Kart mission mode on DS was decent, DKR was still better for the amount of variety though.

Variety is better than just having a standard race only mode. Looks like Crash Team Racing is quite close to DKR than to MK, so people who like DKR would probably like CTR.

Crows90510d ago

Ive contemplated getting it...might consider it more now..especially for my kids.

gold_drake510d ago

its soooo good.
shame we'll never have another one lol

jakmeup1231529d ago

you my sir are a good man and. But the biggest L is they had was not putting in the division

Lon3wolf1529d ago

Would of swapped out WoW for Division personally.

Sono4211528d ago (Edited 1528d ago )

Nah the biggest L is they forgot to add the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild area ;) You're supposed to be able to take one step and go from a sunny summer day to a cold cloudy winter right?

In all seriousness though, I would say Uncharted 2 deserves to at least be a runner up.

pwnmaster30001529d ago

Wait so no horizon? Why is it the cover page then lol

porkChop1529d ago

For all it's faults, The Division has some of the best winter atmosphere I've come across. Massive Entertainment really nailed that aspect.

bluefox7551529d ago

Interestingly enough, today was the first "heavy snow" day we've had in PA, it's weird, it's been a pretty mild winter up until this point.

william_cade1529d ago

F' their click-fest article...sleezy does it.
