"No more delays" for Driveclub

GRTV talked to art director Alex Perkins about the upcoming Driveclub on PS4:

"We hope that people will download the PlayStation Plus [edition] really enjoy the gameplay experience and the actual connectivity of Driveclub. And then realise the stunning beauty and the brilliance of the cars can only be expanded by buying the whole game. It gives a nice solid format for people to start interacting with and actually using the challenge system and doing the connectivity. So it should give people a really give intro to how Driveclub is and hopefully spur them on to start challenging, competing from the extra locations and cars they get when they purchase the whole game."

Surely, there will be no more delays?

"No. No. We're improving the game past launch. But there is no more delays, we're hitting the deadline. And it's going to be beautiful."

NO weather at launch and only 50 cars. No customization. If they had another delay. PS fans would revolt. This game was supposed to release almost a year ago.

XiNarutoUzumaki3575d ago

What are you trying to accomplish with all that negativity?

Bonkerz3575d ago (Edited 3575d ago )

@XiNarutoUzumaki
I wouldnt say just negativity, hes kinda just be honest. The game truly is launching pretty half assed, barely any customization, very little cars, no weather, exactly what did an entire year delay accomplish if its still launching half baked?

The most visually impressive racer I have seen, just un imaginable how they could achieve it on a console. The impressions from this years hands on at e3 were glowing as well from a racing aspect. So stoked to be able to play it soon. eye candy + racing :'D

MysticStrummer3574d ago

"What are you trying to accomplish with all that negativity?"

Making himself feel better.

r2oB3574d ago

@ bonkers

You mean half baked like Forza 5, which was rushed to market? With cardboard crowds, baked lighting, poor physics, muddy textures, half the content as Forza 4, oh, and no weather effects at all. Hardly anything next gen about it and yet lacks the content of its predecessor, that's half baked.

You seem to be one of the simpletons that can't comprehend that this is not a racing sim like Forza or GT. It's a more accessible racer, akin to Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, PGR, etc. Hundreds of cars and tons of customization hardly seems accessible for someone just looking to pick a car and race.

You, and many Xbox fanatics, fail to understand the difference between a meal being half baked and a meal being a different platter.

FamilyGuy3574d ago

You act as though this were some sequel or franchise IP that had all that stuff in its previous title. This is a brand new IP, number of cars, number of tracks, levels of customization, etc have no comparison. This is the first DriveClub game, you act like all racing games should have the same number of cars, tracks etc.

InTheLab3574d ago (Edited 3574d ago )

Negative but true. Game was supposed to launch Nov 2013 and they still couldn't implement weather or customization?

@R20B

Dude come on. How is this any better than Forza 5 when you have the devs telling you it's coming after launch.

It's bulls*** for Forza and Bulls*** for this game.

r2oB3574d ago

@ inthelab

Not sure why they couldn't implement weather pre launch, maybe they decided to add it too late into development, or maybe they did not have enough time after making all the other tweaks. I have to disagree with you though. Had it not been obvious that they made a lot of progress since delaying the game, then yes, not adding weather would have been bull. But that's not the case. It's obvious they made improvements after the delay, so in this case a delay was a positive thing (better to delay a game than release a rushed product IMO). Not to mention they are adding it pretty quickly after launch, and the effects are insane.

As for the customization situation. I'm not going to knock the game for Evolutions decision to make the game more accessible, as the developer it's their right to give the game it's own identity. They made it quite clear the direction they want to take this game. It's not a racing sim, not meant to compete with GT but rather co exist with it. Not every racer needs to be complex. Why judge a game for something it's not meant to be?

What a joke. Just release it in 2016 and be done with it.

Totally getting the Drive Club bundle. I want to own the full game :)

Can't wait to finally get my hands on PS4.

Are you referring to your mental capacity? Clearly you do not grasp what downgrade means.

Does anyone know the differences between the PS+ version and retail?

Kurisu3574d ago (Edited 3574d ago )

PlayStation Plus Edition which comes with one location (India), 11 tracks, 10 cars and access to all game modes.

The full DRIVECLUB experience will give you access to all five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events

http://blog.eu.playstation....

The full game is definitely the way here!

sGIBMBR3574d ago

Yeah me too... I think I was always going to get the full version anyway just to support the dev's.

I was just curious as to what the differences are.

Clover9043574d ago

I believe that the ps plus version will have all the different modes and social experiences, but only a few cars and tracks. Think they said that there will be a discount for ps plus members upgrading to the full edition.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85102d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972102d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim102d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno101d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183101d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

Chocoburger102d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai101d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC101d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

i went to the article and theres only a couple racing games, cant find the button to move page on through all the adverts.

ah its changed to a video now, strange, but il take it

Dfooster1201d ago

Dirt rally doesn't even make the list? Errm OK then.

Driveclub is over rated as well, with middle of the road handling and the 30fps killed it upon arrival for me.
