Why I’ve Turned On My Wii U Everyday For A Month

Mii-gamer:

Wii U fans have had it rough since the launch of the console back in Novemeber 2012. I am not talking about the lack of quality games, because in reality, the Wii U has arguably the best library of the new Gen. What I am talking about the long, extensive and numerous droughts that have plagued the system.

Unfortunately, one of the negative repercussions of droughts is that folks will have very little reason to turn on their dear consoles, until the next big release. So far it has been a vicious cycle: New title is released -- Wii U is turned on until the game satisfactorily completed -- Wii U isn’t turned on until a new title is launched. I am not implying that this is the typical experience of the average Wii U owner, but this has been my experience so far.

However, I’ve noticed a drastic change in my playing habits – something that has become quite apparent now – and that is noticing I’ve indeed turned on my Wii U everyday for one month now.

congrats, you did a great job wasting your power and raising your electric bill.

But Wii U uses less electricity than the original Wii...

I use the gamepad almost everyday for surfing, checking miiverse, watching Youtube. Clocked 42 hours in june on the Wii U, including MK, Wonderful 101, Tennis and Zelda. I barely use my PS3 or X360 anymore. Wii U is my favourite.

I turn it on every night. Bob Ross clips on YouTube help put me to sleep.

Evil Rant Monkey3584d ago

haha Nice! That's awesome.

It's more power efficient than leaving your pc, or other current gen console on all night.

Oh my god, i thought i was the only one.

Just that gentle scraping against the paint does it for me. Happy little clouds...

ASMR!! @WeAreLegion and @Concertoine, what you guys feel is ASMR!! Holy crap, years of using N4G but never had a good reason to create an account until I saw your comments. That tingly or relaxing feeling when you hear certain sounds like people eating food or painting or scratching is called ASMR videos. There are a lot of those on Youtube to help you fall asleep. MassageASMR is one of the asmrists that makes pretty good videos. There are a lot of people like us, but its rare finding them. Cheers mate.

Seriously?!? That's amazing! I'll look into them! Thanks, man. Oh, and...stick around, if you feel so inclined. Always nice seeing new users who aren't crazy.

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga3d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas3d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
