From bloated budgets to outright unmarketable premises, each of these games have their own stories behind their failures. While some are tales of tragedy, others are cynical cash-ins that totally deserved their lack of success. One thing that all of them share in common though, is that it was obviously going to end in tears from the start.
Duke Nukem Forever originally began its life as a sidescroller instead of a shooter back in 1996, and that canceled version has just been leaked.
Very cool, but i don't know how real this is... I'll check it out later to find out.
From IGN: "Following Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda, popularly known as "Suda51," Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi announced his move to NetEase Games back in August this year. Today, NetEase revealed Kobayashi's new studio as GPTRACK50, located in Osaka. At Capcom, Kobayashi worked as the producer on the Resident Evil series as well as Devil May Cry.
“I was at Capcom for 27 years. During my time, the company became a lot bigger and a lot of new staff came in,” Kobayashi told IGN in an exclusive interview.
“I worked on a wide array of titles at Capcom, but I wanted a new challenge,” he explained. “Of course, it’s not like Capcom didn’t allow me to try out new things, but now that the company is a lot bigger, things are different from the way they were when I joined the company as a freshman back in 1995. Everything now needs to be approved and things just take more time to get greenlit. I’m the kind of creator that wants to be able to deliver a new experience while it still feels fresh, and I had been thinking of creating my own studio to make that possible.”"
Duke Nukem Forever, the troubled FPS from Gearbox and 3D Realms, has been restored to more traditional 90s shooter thanks to a sweeping “remaster” mod
kinda of a misleading title.
Mod features:
Sprinting removed and faster player movement
Jump height increased
Swim speed is much faster
Player can now hold breath underwater for 45 seconds instead of 15
Weapon rebalance and screen shake when shooting removed
2/4 weapon limit completelly removed
Quicksaves (F5 by default)
Depth of Field removed and new post processing effects
Driving sections are now in first person perspective
yw.
Brutal Legend is awesome, one of the best soundtracks ever, and the narrative is great. Rock legends like Ozzy and Lemmy Kilmister are in it. But the gameplay is nothing special, the RTS gameplay for example. Sadly this game had disappointing sales.
Shenmue is a classic, still want a HD remake for this generation.
5 years from now Destiny and Elder Scrolls Online will be making this list
Again.. E.T. was huge commercial disaster, but it's far from the worst game ever.
I could easily come up with 20 worse games on the 2600 alone! Starting with 2600 Pacman and Donkey Kong!
