If you consider the inroads the Games as a Service Movement has made across the spectrum of gaming markets and the various public statements made by game industry leaders and analysts regarding microtransactions and the future of AAA video games, it becomes clear that video games are undergoing a sea change. Unfortunately, the worst-case scenario for gamers in this upheaval is the best case scenario for those Games as a Service Movement companies who develop pay to win games (games in which the challenges have been replaced by ploys designed to manipulate players into continuously purchasing pricey microtransactions), which is why core gamers need to take this matter in hand, come together on a few basic principles like: ‘we don’t want to be manipulated and charged ten times as much for our video games,’ and put a stop to pay to win games.
Today Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson provided a look into his ideas for the use of generative AI in the company's development processes.
EA is still a shady shitty company even with or without the help of Skynet. All they will use AI for is new ways to milk loot boxes and come up with the same sports title with a different year on the label. They are one company I truly do hate with a passion. They single handedly ruined some great franchise with their death touch. ME, Dead Space, Alice Returns, Dante's Inferno.
EA layoffs followed by 'Generative AI to Drive Monetization'
I knew it. Wonder what AI salary looks like? Nothing.
And take away creativity, and people's jobs as we've been seeing. Got it.
No thanks. I want my games created by people, not AI.
EA doesn't want to lose their title of worst gaming company ever, always trying their best to remain the champs!
What's sad is that they have so much potential to be a decent publisher.
SSX Tricky / SSX 3
Def Jam Vendetta / Fight for New York
NBA Street
NFL Steet
Mirror's Edge
Bad Company
Burnout 3 / 4 / 5
Remember when EA used to be awesome? It's all over with now. Unpolished, if not out-right broken games these days. Endless monetization and gambling in their sports games, and let's not forget wasting hours of your life trying to unlock characters or equipment using "surprise boxes!"
Gareth, Justin, and JoeyZ look at Layoff news for EA and Sony and reasons behind the downturn in the industry and more.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson writes: "In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams. Our primary goal is to provide team members with opportunities to find new roles and paths to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect. Communicating these impacts has already begun and will be largely completed by early next quarter."
All the big ones doing the same stuff. Terrible. I just hope that all these people are able to get a new job as soon as possible, God know that it is horrible to be left jobless when you have your kids or your parents depending on your financial help
The point I feel is problematic about all of this is that focusing on Owned Ip means more sequels, remasters and more of what was selling last year.
EA is disgusting. Especially how they boasted that their games would include more micro-transactions.
Never bought DS3. The first time I became annoyed with micro-transactions was in Gears of War 3 with all the different colored guns and BS. Most of my friends were buying all this additional BS and I still don't understand why.
Also when Xbox live started charging for new outfits for people's avatars disgusted me. I knew people who were broke and unemployed who were buying Xbox Avatar clothing and Avatar remote control vehicles.
Most of this can be traced to being charged for DLC on consoles which used to be free on the PC.
They've been conditioning us. It's just going to get worse.
There's a link to a petition tied to a boycott of the worst pay to win titles.
One thing you can do is find the link and sign the boycott.
This is repetitive! i'll never sign on this nonsensical bull#&?!.
So damn tired of this! if you don't like it, don't buy it! simple as that.
They're not forcing it on you, ppl need to chill with that.
It's optional! as long it's not forceful MT's, then it's all good. Please stop this!
In mobile gaming, the only place where IAPS have completely taken hold, all of the IAPS are purchased by 1.5% of gamers (read the article). So, in other words, if your average gamer decides not to buy Clash of Crap, if most decide not to buy it, it doesn't matter. If this dynamic were to take hold in core gaming then your average gamer would lose all influence as to what gets made and what doesn't. What's worse, again on mobile, where IAP-heavy games run rampant, they turn video games into crapola.
There's a reason people keep talking about this issue.
GT6? Really? It's always been crazy lengthy to buy the most expensive cars. And it really isn't as difficult to gain credits like it was for the previous games. Anyone who has even played GT4 will know how long it takes to get 20 million credits. Even when I wanted to get the most expensive cars, I chose to spend the credits for the cheaper cars. It was a whole hell of a lot quicker getting them in GT5 and GT6. Terrible example when MS does this for Forza and it's easier getting the most expensive cars there.
