Developing new Gears of War is about ‘managing betrayal,’ says Fergusson

I like what he is saying, but I doubt it will be that different, hopefully the story is a little more mature than gruntfest 2000.

I trust in Rod and he is clearly listening to the community. All he has to do is make it more like Gears 3 than judgement and he's already on the right path

I would think The Locust Queen have set-up incubators of New Locust deep below the planet Sera with a New Threat to guide the New Horde.With a new cast of Cog Characters, set in a 10yrs to 20yrs Emergence Day after Gear 3. Please no Pendulum Wars will only lead up to Judgement multiplayer Human on Human " that sucks".

I would like to experience a Re-Emergence Day from near the beginning or as it starts as long as they can do it well.

Personally 20 years should be on the earliest possibilities as in peace time more could have been rebuilt (not a whole world but start of it and at least one major city that stands as a monument of their victory--which naturally gets demolished or at least attacked at some point but not early on in a new trilogy). Some of the characters would be older then and have kids likely old enough to have enlisted (I wouldn't want to play as a squad of their children though but maybe bump into a familiar face or one of their offspring). Plus we need a new generation of Carmines for cannon fodder ;)

I am thinking 20 years as gives a whole new generation time to grow up in peace which has been accepted as real and lasting while allowing most of the old cast to still be living but no longer the focus. They would probably be higher ups in command or even reenlist for some--Cole for example is sort I could see reenlist even when older to recapture glory days as well as just being a huge crazy guy that lives on the edge, a boring retirement doesn't suit him IMO and would jump at the chance to join the fray once more. Marcus would make a good leader (post reemergence as too gruff to be a peacetime leader yet paraded as a hero and not comfortable with the position) and think is most likely to have a child that joins up while Baird is more into background tech support/advancement nowadays. Some of the lesser characters could still be around too as think Griffin would find a new niche to capitalize on.

I agree though that Pendelum Wars would be a huge mistake and Locust should somehow make a return.

The core mechanics of Gears of War that he was eluding to that needs to stay constant (IMHO anyways):

1) Cover based system that requires its use to survive as well as progress periodically (turrets and super weapons).

2) Intense close combat (wretches which require mobile combat instead of pure cover).

3) Civilization gone awry (if they go pendulum, which I prefer they don't, show war as it is--if a new emergence day where locusts survived and return much the same applies but perhaps even worse).

4) Locust--I don't care if the explosion is supposed to have wiped them out but the odds Myrreh didn't have a back up plan of some sort seems low. There may have been small scale shielding of some sort similar to nuclear bunkers for example or, like the lightmass explosions, left pockets of survivors where the radiation would not have reached or was a weaker dose.

Myrreh doesn't seem like the sort to leave things to chance knowing they were still susceptible to the weapon but still wanted its destruction as it would had wiped out most if not all unprotected Locust.

If Locust are not around (assuming it takes place after 3) than perhaps we can fight their genetic successors (actually precursors but could had mutated more since) similar to Sires as doubt a single strain or location would exist--if nothing else a single test location gone to chaos and destroyed would set back or end all further testing which is simply bad planning. Between keeping them in cryogenic containers and placed in highly protected locations means as bad as they were humans likely were not completely done with them. If the radiation didn't kill them outright more than likely they would become even more feral than they were.

Honestly though I just think locusts need to say around even if Lambent was wiped out (purer strain would take heaviest hit after all). Not having Locust in a Gears game would be like not having. Covenant in Halo--they may not be the only baddy or even the worst but are a big part of the universe as a whole.

Rod needs to make sure Gears for Xbox One takes place in a brand new universe because the original trilogy wraps up the story of Fenix and the locust

I don't think that will happen. Gears and Halo are the biggest AAA exclusives that MS have on their consoles and I really doubt they will realese them on another platform, except for Gears of wars 1 who was also released for the pc many gears ago.
