Not a CoD in sight, was so much better back then.Seeing this list is kinda making me hate the 7th gen a bit now, wth happened? Hopefully 8th gen fixes this.

Everyone is bashing Call of Duty but it still sells millions and millions of copies. I enjoy COD. Did not get Ghosts though. Black Ops II multiplayer Free for All is still great fun. Looking forward to Sledgehammers COD 2014.

"Everyone is bashing Call of Duty but it still sells millions and millions of copies."

There's no accounting for taste.

Call of Duty still sells because it's still the dominant shooter in its genre. Games that are tried and true, and don't steer too far from their predecessors are notorious for their ongoing success through generations.

Since Modern Warfare, not a whole lot has changed in gameplay.
Since Gran Turismo, not a whole lot has changed in gameplay.

Same for Mario, Grand Theft Auto, Madden, FIFA and any other game that developers crank out. The difference between these games and other games is that the developers for these games just happened to find the one formula that makes their franchise popular and applied it to the core of every future title in the series.

It's for this very reason that you don't see many titles stray way out from their breakout game and when they do, they aren't very well received.

Gamers cry for innovation, but often bash uniqueness. Doesn't make sense sometimes.

Well in generation 6 you had people like bashing GTA just as now you see people bashing COD. You just didn't here it back then online as much with out collaborative news sites.

SegaGamer3651d ago

I agree. Back then games weren't getting made just to make a quick buck. They were coming up with new ideas. I loved the variety on the PS2, it was perfect.

I thought it would been FFX for most sold on PS2

TitanUp3651d ago

an rpg game is never going to beat an shooters or racer in terms of sales.

i hate that but rpg doesnt hit the mainstream like shooters and racers do.

I cannot access the page, nor can I access the other page of the article Dadag has posted up.

DragonKnight3651d ago

Let me help you out then.

10. God of War - 4.61 million
9. Kingdom Hearts - 4.78 million
8. FFXII - 5.2 million
7. FFX 6.6 million
6. MGS2 - 7 million
5. GTA 3 - 7.9 million
4. GTA Vice City - 9.61 million
3. Gran Turismo 4 - 11.73 million
2. GT3 A-Spec - 14.89 million
1. GTA San Andreas - 17.33 million

Gotta love it when someone has nothing to write about so they go to VGChartz and look up sales numbers to make an "article" about, even if the games are 10 years old or more.

Jeebus3651d ago

I'm amazed that FFXII sold so well. Also that the first KH and GoW sold more than their better sequels.

theDivision3651d ago

Talk about rough... my PS2 never touched any of those games.

mt3651d ago

@Jeebus in my opinion only kingdom hearts 2 and god of war 2 were better in almost every aspect. other sequels/ prequels weren't better than the first of both games.

@the Division

dude ... wow are you kidding ?

SegaGamer3651d ago

Nice to see a few RPG's in that list.

There wont be enough demand until the tech gets better and more affordable.

ApocalypseShadow51d ago

The article is more concerned with where the announced games are. Not about VR demand.

Even with my thoughts on Facebook, they did supposedly sell over 20 million headsets. Not that I think that many are still using their Quest headsets. But even if it's only 10 million users and 5 million are interested and able to play GTA SA, that's still a lot of consumers and a lot of sales.

It just comes down to why these developers are taking so long. Is something like GTA canceled? Is it being held back for a future event? It's not like there's competition in the stand alone space. And now that I have a Quest 3 myself, I'm wondering as well what's the hold up.

For GTA SA
Meta made a lot of budget cuts and cancelled a fair few exclusive game contracts we don't know if this was cancelled but it's possible and this was announced prior to the release of GTA definitive edition which was slammed and eventually moved to be supported in house by Rockstar.

Since then we have just gotten the mobile versions a d they are actually the best way to play the definitive edition unfortunately the consoles never got a retrospective patch to implement the improvements they made in the mobile games.

But for VR we know a VR mode was found in the definitive editions game files thanks to data miners so seeming it was meant to be using the definitive edition as a base given its ue4 that makes sense. And the mode is there right now (some Polish may be required still) I would assume this is ready to go but meta got cold feet and cancelled it given the games reputation.

I do hope Rockstar forge ahead and still just launch it anyway on psvr2 as it's a game I've loved since day 1 on PS2 I'll even tolerate the de version to get it in VR
