CD Projekt Red: You'll Want To Pre-Order The Witcher 3 At GOG

Okay, so we don't know what the pre-order bonuses will be, but obviously, we should be excited.

If you opt to pre-order the upcoming epic role-playing adventure from CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, from the developer's own virtual storefront - GOG - you'll get some hefty goodies.

On PC I'd rather buy on Steam for the achievements and cards.

Somebody3649d ago

Atm I'm torn between the two. I really want to get the GOG version because it's DRM free while the Steam cards and achievements don't interest me much.

Unfortunately GOG's own downloader is not as good as Steam and add my slow internet connection to the mix it will not be a pleasant experience. I usually ended up downloading huge games in multiple parts(the manual option) with the Orbit downloader instead.

Fortunately with digital downloads you get to experience such 'hardship' only once since GOG allows you to keep a backup of the installation(and patches later on) files. Still, CDP really need to beef up their own downloader first if they want people to get the GOG version of TW3 which will be huge in file size.

HighResHero3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

I would still go with the GOG version if I was you :] That's not to say that Steam doesn't have anything worth while to offer.
I agree that GOG does need to work on their downloader and it's accessibility a bit.

Somebody3648d ago

Both has their strengths. GOG's DRM free policy is the biggest draw between the two. When it comes to old games, casual or singleplayer only games then I would certainly choose the GOG version over Steam. Newer games that are several gigabytes in size would certainly make me choose the Steam version.

TW3 GOG edition(Ultimate/Definitve Edition? They called Diablo 3 on consoles as the perfect version because it doesn't have the PC version's always online DRM so a truly DRM-free TW3 deserve a better name than a GOG Edition) is pretty high in my choice. Oh, well. Still another year for GOG to fix their downloader and for me to prepare for a week of downloading with a download accelerator if they don't.

ATi_Elite3648d ago

I don't care about achievements or trophies,

I do care about a cheap price and FREE GOODIES!

Steam or GOG the battle is gonna be epic for TW3 sales.

I'm sure Gabe Newell will stop ALL development on Ricochet 2 Episode 3 to make sure Steam has a sale and some goodies to compete with GOG TW3 pre-order bonus.

Lmao

Somebody3648d ago

Depends on the goodies. I actually went to another city to get a retail copy The Witcher 2. It comes with some goodies like a map, a papercraft, a bonus CD and a cursed coin. Never looked at those stuff again after the first view and I dropped the coin under the car seat. Never bothered to recover it. I don't even know how it looked like. I wonder if it still there.

Hopefully TW3 will have useful digital gifts like exotic weapons and armor or hats that actually last throughout the game. It's sad to get a unique digital armor and weapon set in Kindoms of Amalur only to discard them later on when better ones appear. I forgot I have the codes for the special items so by the time I remembered to redeem them, some of the items that I found in game are better than the special ones.

ZodTheRipper3649d ago

I'll probably preorder through PSN.

gillri3649d ago

Id prefer a physcial copy thanks, I still got my Dark Edition of TW2 so I hope for a collectors edition for the PS4

Activemessiah3649d ago

Gotta love GOG for the DRM-free games... so damn easy without being treated as a thief.

SnakeCQC3649d ago

Why can't sony and ms be like that? Instead they fear prehistoric retailers so they spike up the price of digital games.

Summons753649d ago

and then keep them at full price years after stores drop prices to 20$. Physical > Digital

LexHazard793649d ago

Nothing to be sorry about. Alot of gamers are doing the same.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave13d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan13d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name37d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno37d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno37d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure37d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
