Shuhei Yoshida loves that Facebook bought Oculus, says it helps validate PlayStation's efforts

Engadget: "I woke up that morning and saw the announcement," Shuhei Yoshida tells us, remembering the day Facebook acquired Oculus VR. "And I was like, yeah!" Yoshida laughs and thrusts his arms in the air like an excited child. "For me, it was a validation for VR." As head of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, virtual reality (and Sony's Project Morpheus) has become important to Yoshida. He wants to see it, as a medium, to succeed.

Yoshida makes me feel good always

and thats how you do it.. take notes Cliffy B do not downplay your competitors effort as at the end of the day the person who makes this a success will open doors to how we interact with games and future entertianment and more importantly make VR not condererd a gimmick

Mr Pumblechook3661d ago

Now that Cliffy B. is a rich shareholder I really hope he doesn't take it upon himself to speak on behalf of Oculus.

Summons753661d ago

Of course. If I was in competition with someone then they were bought out by a company I knew would derail them in the end I would love it too.

Talk about taking his enthusiasm out of context.

starchild3661d ago

That's not what he said at all. How would derailing Oculus validate VR?

Shuhei isn't an idiot. He understands the economics involved. Can't say the same for a lot of ignorant gamers.

Wow so your saying that when the Oculus rift was announced Sony decided to copy them and create Morpheus within a year.

That sounds stupid to be honest. Morpheus has been in development for over 3 years and Sony has been working with VR before that.

ravinash3661d ago

Yeah, it's not like the idea of VR as been around since the 80s.
So it does not matter who was first in the current round of trying to develop VR, it's nothing new whoever was first out of the two of them.

Best thing about Sony is they're always ready to take a risk, be it games or hardware.
Innovation and hopefully Morpheus will be pitched at an affordable/acceptable price.

crazyCoconuts28d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa28d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
