VR Will 'Hit Off' with Project Morpheus' Release - Vertigo Games

VRFocus - Richard Stitselaar, Creative Director at Vertigo Games, has claimed that he thinks virtual reality (VR) will ‘hit off’ with the release of the Project Morpheus VR headset on PlayStation 4. Speaking to VRFocus at the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Stitselaar stated that Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) device could mean big publishers get on board with the technology, as well as the HD Oculus Rift headset. Vertigo Games is currently working on the Oculus Rift compatible World Of Diving.

I'm not really digging this whole VR crap, I mean people hate on 3D glasses, but yet their willing to put 1980 style old folks visors on their head. Ain't this the reason why the Virtual Boy failed? People complained about headaches, neck, back pains, and eyestrain, but yet this is somehow the future? Seem kinda wasteful, but hey you never know how the market and consumer opinions will shift.

This is the reason why Virtual Boy failed.

This is what OR\Morpheus games look like.

See the difference?

I understand all of that but still have to deal with bright lights from special effects. This can and will cause headaches and eyestrain. Same problem with watching 3D content, I'm sure it will be cool the first time I use it, but I'm not impulsed by VR tech, and never have been.

I'm more interested in star citizen for OR. And he is right I could see a lot of people not wanting to put this goofy headset on.

After watching the Sony VR Press Conference, their headset developers stated that they were well aware of the motion sickness, headaches, and other side effects that people suffered from with VR. They have corrected all those problems. They did state though that the sense of presense is so lifelike, that people do actually feel a real sense of fear when fall from a bridge into a pool of lava or something similar. I think they've put the time and research into this and know they can deliver a great VR experiece. They just need developers to jump on board.

christrules00413664d ago (Edited 3664d ago )

No they haven't corrected it. Drive club even gave Shuhei Yoshida motion sickness and they scrapped vr support for Drive Club. Here is a link. http://www.playstationlifes...

I got 'motion sickness' when playing HL2 for the first time and had to stop playing it :( but it went away after a day or so, people just need to get their 'sea legs'. Most people will probably adapt just fine (everyone wants everything instantly these days), others can eat ginger, and I'm sure Sony is fixing everything that can cause it. Only human...

The virtual boy with its red vector graphics and it's headset which was bolted to a table. Why people are even bothering to compare Morpheus and rift to virtual boy beats me. It's like comparing a car phone from the early 1990s to the smartphones of today.

3D games and movies that are done well are great, do people feel special when they say they hate it? If you have a disability that's too bad but eye problems aren't a problem since you can wear glasses while using it.

People wear heavy, greasy headphones on their heads for hours at a time while gaming so a light headset supported in the right places as Sony has done is fine. I can't wait to use VR to look out of my heli windows when I'm playing games like BF4.

Ergonomics will be considered so people don't have to whip their necks around too far in games, etc...

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts27d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos27d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts27d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa27d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
