4 Underrated Games Released In 2013 That You Need To Play

Make Use Of: I must admit, 2013 was a big year for gaming. More importantly, games that would never have received much recognition were highly regarded in the gaming world. The rise of the indie gaming scene is what really led to this major shift in the types of games that are heaped with praise, with games like Gone Home, Brothers, and plenty of others receiving almost unanimous love from both players and critics alike.

However, even though plenty of games were reviewed well, and even sold very well, there were still others that just didn’t get the attention they deserved. This happens for many reasons – bad marketing, poor timing, a premise that didn’t catch on for one reason or another, and a slew of other factors can come into play. This is my chance to throw some praise at the games that did not get theirs when they were released. These were some of the most underrated games released in 2013 across various platforms. If you didn’t play them, you totally should.

Wonderful 101 is INCREDIBLE ... such a shame it didn't sell well.

It seems like a great game, but sadly it was only released for a console I don't own.

I would have bought and played MG Rising if it would have had an option for the original Japanese voices.

I really want to play Sly : Thieves in Time, but I want to play the Sly collection first so I can experience the evolution of the series.

I wouldn't really call any of those games underrated. Every one of those games reviewed well, for the most part. Metal Gear: Revengeance and DMC in particular were very well received by critics.

Not trying to knock your list, but I don't think of Metal Gear: Revengeance or DMC when I think of underrated games in 2013.

DmC wasnt too popular among gamers though.

Wargrave3666d ago

Depends on the gamers you speak to. Hardcore DMC fans hate it, fair enough, but people outside of that group tended to see it as a great action title. The problem is, the vitriolic fanboys were the ones who people listened to.

I think the fans had every right to hate it though. They are obviously very passionate about the character Dante and didn't like seeing the world they loved being trampled on. A lot of the people you say enjoyed the game didn't care much for the story which is largely what bothered Devil May Cry fans to begin with. I heard the game was also the easiest in the series by a lot and that probably did not sit well with fans either.

No doubt, underrated not so much. Under appreciated, unplayed, there's plenty of choice of words that would represent what these games are. Underrated is not one of them.

Dead-pool funny game worth the time.

wish the list was more of new IP's that came out this year. most of those are legacies. They had built in hype around them (MGR:R, Sly Cooper, Devil My Cry). The other choice was good though

BBBQ_BYOBB3666d ago

Plenty of new IPs get "hype", look at Titanfall. MGR:R was a spinoff with an unpopular character, DMC is a reboot where they changed the design and story, and Sly is a series that's been dormant for a long time. They are a few of the reasons why they were underrated.

The 2 PG games were both incredible, here's for Wonderful 102 and MGR2

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer2h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them
