Two days ago industry insider Ahsan "Thuway" Rasheed ousted Sony's work in implementing PS2 and PS1 emulation on PS4, and today he provided more information about its performance on Twitter.

No offense Dualshockers, but you guys need to stop posting Thuway Unknown – Insiders rumors every change you get. You posted a similar article yesterday about PS1/PS2 1080p on PS4 and I don't think this one adds anything new to what was already put out.

It actually adds a lot more detail about the emulation's performance and Sony's intentions with it. And why it hasn't been released/announced yet.

I don't report what he says at every chance, mind you, but only when he specifies that it's information he received.

There are others that try to post his opinions as news, but that's not me :D

It's information, and information is relevant. If you don't like info, no one forces you to read.

I for one, found it news worthy and helpful.

The whole performance issues could be why they have said "selected" PS1/PS2 titles.

Maybe some are too much hard work or not cost effective to bring to the market. So they will choose the ones they can get to run the best.

Be a shame if a real classic was unable to be emulated correctly/efficiently and we had to miss it on PS4.

@Madderz: they'll probably solve performance issues gradually. That's the natural evolution of all emulators. They start buggy and with only a few titles supported, and then they'll work their way through the catalogue until they become perfect.

Advanced PS1 and PS2 PC emulators that work well with almost every game exist, and they run very well on PCS with similar performance as the PS3, so there's a good chance that the PS4 will get there as well.

Abriael there was no information at all there, nothing worth even mentioning as the guy was just saying what anyone would be thinking on this matter. Also i believe this comment is a joke "Sony doesn’t want to ship a half baked product with people complaining about inaccurate features" did they not release the ps4 with inaccurate features, they could've dragged the ps3 out a bit longer so they could've made a more beefy console.

Yeah, i've been following the ppsspp emulator for a little while now and that started out really really buggy, but its slowly getting there. It takes lots of testing and feedback from users. I imagine Sony will obviously do in house testing etc as appose to having public testers.

Whats with all the hate, some of the info was repeated but there is new info on stability, res and fps. I wasn't aware before this article and i think it adds to the previous one quite well.

Industry 'insiders' have been the source of countless leaks which turned out to be true.

Microsoft's DRM policies were outed by an insider.

Developers don't really provide us with much information, so industry insiders are becoming more and more popular, and proving to be good sources of unofficial information.

I hope its like the pcsx2, that makes ps2 games look absolutely beautiful on my pc, some better than ps3 games at points, Grandia 3 and FF12 are pretty good examples, oh and of course budokai tenkaichi 3, if the ps4 doesnt do something similar with its emulation of these games like (AA, FXAA and whatever else is there, cant remember exactly what i have on and upscalled to 1080P) then you may aswell just get the emu on the pc. serious piss take though, you should just be able to play any previous playstation title on the ps4.

Seeing as how the PS4 is basically a high end Linux computer I wouldn't doubt them taking note from PC emulation.

@DawnOfDon ...wtf!?! Listen, ofcourse you cant compare it to a 2-3 thousand dollar PC rig... yet that little Hp you have at school is on the same par... Why?? So many times I will play a game and jump back and forth to a webpage with a youtube video showing me how to collect trophies. I did this with tomb raider, normally i would use my phone or laptop but I stayed on my PS4... now if this system is capable of processing the video game, youtube video and my music then I think it's on par with a high end PC.

I hope We can use disk. The PS4 does read PS1/PS2 games saying "This isn't supported" or something but if I put in a Wii U game or something it will say unrecognized disk.

Really? That would be odd as PS1 games were CDs I believe, and PS2 games were DVDs??

The PS4 only has a bluray drive? So i think that could work with PS3 games but not the predecessors.

Am i wrong? Can anyone shed any light?

EDIT : Actually isn't that how the PS3 - PS4 upgrade thing works? You put your PS3 copy into the PS4 to boot the PS4 copy? To prove you have paid for the license? So that says right there it can read PS3 discs.

Blu-ray drives can read CD's and DVD's too :) The PS3 has a Blu-ray drive, yet I can watch DVD's on it and play PS1 games :)

Buttttt the PS4 doesn't play DVDs or CDs does it? I haven't personally tried, come to think of it i only own blu rays nowadays, but it could recognize them in the same way as using the PS3 disc to boot a game then i would imagine?

@Madderz: DVD playback is definitely there on PS4. I've been watching The Simpsons Movie on DVD with my PS4 randomly.

As far as CD playback, not sure. Honestly haven't tried with my PS4 yet.

DVD's work but music CD's don't.
Not that the hardware isn't compatible but a license is req'd to play music off CD's and Sony didn't find them relevant enough to pay for it.

PS1 games on the otherhand aren't music CD's so that same license will not be required. Just an emulator.

You bought a game license for that particular PS3 version of the software only. You didn't buy a license for all future versions of that software. People can't seem to grasp this concept.

^lol, who assumed TLOU PS4 would be free? And we don't even know if it's real yet, let alone the price!

Emulation wasn't expected, it was hoped for - and we still have no idea of associated costs. I also think people underestimate the strain on the hardware to emulate games - just because they're old, doesn't mean it's a piece of cake.

Finally, why should any games be free? If you have them on PS1/PS2, great, play them on that. If you don't here's an emulator to play them through. So what's the problem, again? :/

i bought a ps4 for new games and experiences. not to play my old 10-15 yr old games on my new console. my ps3 and ps2 r right next to my ps4 and XO, i can jump to those anytime.

Ps2 looks like crap on a hdtv. Also if you look at how great Ps2 games look on emulators, you can tell why everyone is excited.

Not saying we would be playing old games ll the time. But would be great to see Older games look better than hd remasters.

That's great for you. However, there are many of us that don't have a PS2 and PS3 still hooked up to our TV's. There are also those that are just coming in (or back in) to the PS realm with the PS4. Sony is trying to cater to ALL of its customers, not just you.

Many people probably don't know that the PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 games. I tried playing a few recently and many haven't aged well and are very hard to look at. PS1 games are much more difficult and challenging compared to current games though.

Yes, I have good memories of playing the PS1 and the games being awesome, but now they just look dated. Resident Evil is a great example. Still a good game but the blurry/blocky graphics is hard to watch now.

i think the nostalgia for games is way more exciting than actually playing the games that are that old. The games are REALLY dated (design and graphics) and once people throw them in, they'll be over them quickly.

As others have said, the nostalgia is good but when you return to the games alot of them are dated and dissapointing and it almost ruins any good memory you had of them.

They really need to make backwards compatability for the PS1 and 2 games I already own. There are some games I will buy again and again, like Crash and Spyro and stuff, but it is just not okay to keep rereleasing for more money. If youre going to do that, make an HD collection of games, I dont want to buy the same thing if it hasnt changed.

I think it would make more sense if they just bought one of the already free PS1/PS2 emulators that have already done alot of the work and just tweaked it instead of starting from scratch.Still glad to hear back compat support is coming.

I would pay money for emulation on the PS4. I've never traded in my old games. I have hundreds of PS1 & PS2 games!
