Thing is, we have two sets of rumors and don't know what to believe (although I know which one I want to be true).
One of this fall's big Assassin's Creed games, called or code-named Unity, is set at least partly in 18th-century Paris, according to early leaked screenshots obtained by Kotaku
Paris, really?
I mean...Paris is all good if you have exhausted all the other options/locations, but what about Feudal Japan, Ancient China, India, Russia, Victorian London, Ancient EGYPT!...there's so many more interesting locations than Paris.
I'll remain sceptical. Let's hope it's not just more of the same with a new skin.
@ArmGunar
French Revolution, that's cool i guess, but i just think there are so many other, more interesting times in history that AC could explore. I don't understand why they would prioritize Paris over any of those. Ancient Egypt especially.
Paris would be very cool as environment to play !
And the history of France with Revolution for example could be very pleasant :)
Victorian London ? The Order 1886 :D
if I had to guess why some locations are not as high in priority, it would be because of the whole climbing mechanics. AC depends a lot on relatively tall buildings close together in a town structure.
Though that emphasis has been changing recently so hopefully we will get more variety in the future
I was hoping for China too but Paris during the revolution is an awesome setting.
Also, Egypt? really? that would be boring honestly.
I know what u mean. It's so much like the last set of AC'S except for ac4. how much different will this be than boston in ac3.
Oh crap, it's the same engine from AC3/4, there'll be a sh#tstorm over that on the internet.
And I thought it was going to be targeted for PS4/Xbox One only.
Agreed. I wish and hope atleast one Asscreed game will be based in africa/asia. Especially north-Africa and China/Japan
I know right, it's like the ignore what fans want.
Why have they started given the AC games now though a subtitle. AC4: Blackflags now most likely AC5: Unity.
I know it's most likely to do with the fact that the main Desmond trilogy is over but the thing is <SPOILERS> .......Juno is still out there, a plot point from Desmond's story, they should of closed the book on her if they were going to pay little attention to the present setting.
The first person moments in AC4 were much worse then the Desmond moments in AC1-3.
With the new Up and Down parkour buttons does this mean they'll have a free button slot for a CROUCH button....for stealth.
I'm less concerned with location and more concerned with the screenshots. Am I the only one who thinks this looks very last-gen?
Would love a true full next gen AC game with a smaller side title for the Vita. I really loved Liberation.
The first thought that came to mind was diving off the Eiffel Tower. Then I wondered if it was built yet at this time. I hope so. Still would like to see a WW1 setting where I could hop around Europe. Maybe one day.
I don't have any problems with the settings but I just feel that they should take a break and make a new engine or something, so the game could look fresh again.
To this day the games have basically looked and felt almost identical but with a different skin. New engine and refined combat system would do great to this franchise. Hope that they are already doing it...
@guitarted77
Yeah, these don't look that great. But remember that these are supposedly of an early build and they were leaked. I have no doubt that the final game will look very good. AC4 is one of the best looking new gen games and this one should look even better.
I think it might be interesting to see a game where the Assassins are on the offensive and aided in the sacking of many Templar bases and arrests/tortures back centuries ago that lead to, in real life, the disbanding of the Knights Templar and would explain why the word "Templar" is often spoken in privacy in games with settings in later times.
Maybe we play as a Templar instead of an Assassin in this story, all the way through this time just to mix it up a bit.
@ LiberatedAnimal
If it was during the French Revolution times 1789 to 1799, the Eiffel tower was built in 1887.
Plus if you jumped off that, it does not matter what you land in, you'd still end up a splat!
Paris is cool. Hopefully we see some cool French art influence in the colors and art style of the city.
The only AC I would be interested in is feudal Japan. Black Flag was a brilliant idea also
They need to slow down with these games.
The taste is getting real sour really quick.
yeah honestly this is the most milked series in gaming as far as i know. Overtaking even Guitar Hero imo
Here's my take. All major titles have been AC Numerical. Assuming this isn't a code name we have Bloodlines, Liberation, Unity, or spin offs. Or in the event of AC2 Brotherhood and Revelations but personally I don't Unity being a sequel to Black Flag... So I'll hold judgement until a more concrete detail is available. Unity & Comet, two completely different games for two different gaming gens? Sounds like filler to me.
Having said that I obviously don't see a problem with the supposed location of Paris or whatever timeline it will be. I will say they sure are stroking the milk spouts now, full steam ahead. I understand business is all about making $ but they might want to slow their role before they completely run one of gaming best franchises into the grave.
Then this will be the first AC I will not buy. They have abonded the core elements of these series, and that's ancient history. What made the series awesome whas the history, like Jeruzalem, Italy, Ottoman Empire. But now they made giant leaps into the future. Ubisoft know we, the fans want Feudal Japan or Egypt or any other location that isn't America or Europe. But look now... Paris...
I know i'm not the only one here
According to Kotaku's sources there will be two Assassin's creed games. One for PS4 and Xbox one name 'unity' and one for the PS3 and 360 named comet.
So now we'll have TWO games each year? Wow, and here I was thinking that one game every year was already too much...
@Nerdmaster, at least they're separating the gens now. It's time we start getting more ps4/xb1 games that aren't doable on ps3/360/wiiu. It's kind of the reason we bought the new systems.
Ubisoft is huge, they can afford even more than that. As long as quality keeps up, Im happy.
They'll release the game for PS4 and Xbox One, and then in six months, port the 360/PS3 game to Ps4 and Xbox One.
Im hoping one for vita and the other for ps4/XBONE only but with the sales of the vita currently it is questionable
i was doubtfull when i read that leak , but he was right ...
Next time i'll take a plane i'll NOT be doubtfull of any guy that claim to work at ubisoft.
Ubisoft Employees on a Plane should be a gaming doc. Probably a hell of a lot of stories out there, including games that got leaked but never made their way to Neogaf.
Sounds like they are focusing on each set of platforms. Nice. Id like to see what xbone and ps4 can do for this franchise
Interesting location I guess, but I agree with Lukas. Something like Victorian London or Feudal Japan sounds a lot better.
You must not know much about France's history, which had A LOT of involvement with the Knights Templar. Including when the king got them not only to disband, but branded as satanists and heretics (as you know, two of the gravest offenses in those times). Do a little research, it has a lot more potential than you might think.
I was of the same mindset as you until I started actually digging into France's history.
No, I still think its a yawn fest. But I appreciate the enthusiasm. I want to leave Europe see. There is a whole BIG planet with other cultures and settings to explore. We did 3 games with Enzio, Ubi kind of over stayed their welcome.
Oh and your're right about Iron Man, but hes got to be at least half as good as Marky Mark.
Japan would have been amazing, I wouldn't have minded the previously rumored Russia setting either tbh.
It's milked though not like the Assassin't Cread franchise , two games releasing in one year o_o
Looks cool, was a fan of the architecture in AC2, and Brotherhood, and those images show an equally impressive one.
It would be cool if it's not only Paris though an there are some other cities which I'm sure there are
Was hoping they'd stay away from the West for a while but another Western setting.
Was hoping Egypt or China.
Two? Eghhh these games are starting to feel like homework. They just keep shoveling them out year upon year. Let us miss the franchise make some leaps in gameplay please.
I don't see why you have disagrees. Japan would be awesome. It's time we leave the Europe and the US and go to the East. Great history there
Yea I don't get that too. Haters will always be haters and miserable people -_- I agree we need to have an Assassin's Creed game set in Asia continent. And if it's successful then maybe more countries from that continent.
Why not really try and blow our minds...
South America, Mix between the Spanish/Portuguese colonization taking place in Brazil, Argentina, and the Amazon rain forest.
That said, French Revolution is cool too.
Japan, of course would be great as well.
The really need to give a good place to just jump and climb around again. That aspect of Assassins Creed has been seriously lacking since the Ezio trilogy. Hopefully this is it.
Unity is a great name we are are unified in our dream of killing Frenchmen
Looks like a title that would be suitable for the PS Vita or mobile devices.
yes...Yes.....YES....YESSSSSSS !!! (/゚Д゚)(/゚Д゚)/(/゚Д゚)/(/゚Д゚)/
Release a flipping trailer already ubisoft!!!
Hopefully the Wii U will get Unity since AC4 on Wii U was close to the PS4 version. While Paris isn't exactly what I expected for the new AC it will be a good game none the less.
IF they change the AI and difficulty and make it more challenging then I will be interested. to this point the AI is lacking and breaks the mood when they are so stupid and easy
You're not gay? Well, rest assured, that all of us posting enlightening comments here at N4G can finally breathe a much overdue sigh of relief knowing that you have taken the time to so kindly express in such subtle eloquence and taken the necessary measures to so purposefully reinforce the dominance of your once questionable heterosexuality to us all. I for one, (and by no means can I speak for all) am completely reassured that you are most definitely NOT gay, regardless of my positive opinion of your impeccable and incontestable sense of high fashion. A smart tip of the hat to you.
So many people bitching about Ubi milking AC. Don't buy it if you don't like it.
Awesome, I've been wanting a French Revolution AC game for years, I remember hearing a rumour about it years ago when AC II came out. Glad to be finally getting it.
Im a bit confused if ubisoft spend 2 or 3 years making each AC game how have they had enough time to make the so called AC unity game exclusive to the ps4/xbox one.
What if unity is the upscaled xbox one/ps4 version and comet is the 360/ps3 version.
Im not 100% but i read somewhere that someone at ubisoft said they have such a big install base on the ps3/360 they would not want to alienate them by making a game exclusive to ps4/xbone at this current time.
If im wrong oh well i guess im going to be playing AC5 a year or 2 down the line.
Please don't include multiplayer. Assassin's creed game was never to have a multiplayer to begin with.
"Assassin's Creed - The Milking" Staged in northern France in a truly exciting, serene pastoral landscape of dewy rolling meadows. Fight rival farmers and get your cheese and prosciutto to market before they do. Uncover the secrets of pasteurization and the delicate art of curing hams. Could you possibly uncover and overthrow the deep country conspiracy yet unknown? Thwart the droves of young townsmen from seducing your buxom daughter. So much more thrilling adventure awaits. Experience everything you have before, once again, and again...and again, in the all 'new' Assassins Creed-The Milking!
I've never really played any of the Assassin's Creed games, mainly because I don't prefer stealth games. But I have to ask, for fans of the franchise: does the formula get stale for you? I mean, there's an assassin's creed game that comes out nearly every year. Does it feel annoying to you, like the CoD annuals?
As long as the games are good (which they are) and people buy them, i dont see why some people are complaining. Black flag was amazing, and a cery different experience from previous iterations.
Ubisoft needs to let this game have a year break! They have Watchdogs coming this year, they should just alternate these types of games so they don't completely burn the franchise out.
interesting, we can now go cut up some french people instead of english, spannish and american, i really was getting into the sailing though i hope they keep that.
i'll never buy another AC game again. Only the first 2 were good... Ubisoft have been milking cash off this series since AC 2.
They can never top Edward Kenway for me. They squandered their best and most interesting character ever by writing his death before they made the game.
Gamer Debates sheds its opinion on the Assassin's Creed 5 protagonist "leak." Where will the series take place?
Could be the Wild West. Black duster coat + revolver.
Mexican-American war and Civil War to be featured? Maybe some postbellum stuff too?
Red Dead Redemption meets Assassin's Creed?
In any case, I don't care. Done with Ubisoft, done with Assassin's Creed.
A Wild West AC is improbable. Ubisoft doesn't like to include guns as a major part of the whole gameplay experience, so Wild West just wouldn't work.
What annoys me about AC is that Unisoft will never give us what we want. We've been asking for an AC set somewhere (ANYWHERE) in Asia (a lot of people want Japan) but Ubisoft just doesn't give a sh*t. Maybe they're saving that for the final AC game, though.
What annoys me is that AC1 had great assassination missions (the missions inbetween are repetitive and boring) and they went away from those well done assassination missions. Now its go there kill the guy in 5 minutes and be done with it.
Thats a great idea...ala red dead redemption.
But...I think with next gen, its time to have a Japan or China release. It would be perfect with the flowing grabs running across trees etc. It would be perfect and gorgoeus
I agree that Feudal Japan or Ancient China would be some of the most exciting settings. I hope Ubisoft will one day listen to us. I've been a fan since the first game and I was sure that one of the games would have taken place in Japan by now, but Ubisoft wants to keep doing western settings. It's disappointing.
I love the idea of the Wild West. That's an era I, myself, have been longing for. Or even Egypt would be spectacular.
Hopefully at a graveyard. As that's what they've done to this series for me - killed it.
They should do a complete reboot of the series, go back to the roots of the game. It's not really about conspiracy theories anymore and history. They should never have left the dark and golden ages. But instead they did and put us trough the boring ACIII. ACIV was okay, but that's it.
If they listen to us, and gave us Egypt or Asia, people where happy now and looking forward to this... But I think we will get WWII or France Revolution. One milked to death, the other just not that interesting
I think England, France and Russia are all good countries for a AC game, a lot of history with important historical figures, conspiracies and cover ups.
The problem with america is it doesn't have enough history to fit into the type of stealthy sword and crossbow games ubisoft wants to make, AC3 is about all you can do for america before its just turns into an open world shooter.
Japan or china might appear eventually but for now the three countries i mentioned are a good choice.... But i would like to see an AC game set in brazil
You coincidently picked my top three locations in order of most wanted to least. Are you a wizard?
Lol unfortunately no I'm not the truth is i picked my 3 favourite locations in order.
What happened to possibly Egypt? I remember seeing a screen of an Egyptian character a long time ago
Ricky from Twinfinite writes, "With the Assassin's Creed series moving further and further west, and Ubisoft employing an escaped slave as their protagonist in the ACIV: Freedom Cry DLC, we make that case for the next game in the series to tackle the darkest hour of American history; Slavery and the Civil War."
It's almost as if they forgot Assassins Creed III and IV were both set during periods where slavery existed in America.
Yeah. But I would speculate at least 100 years later: during the Civil War (or War Between the States to those outside of the US.)
That would be interesting. Have a mission along a portion of the underground railroad.
But I suspect that it will get the Huckleberry Finn treatment and get called racist for literally zero logical reasons when it would be more against slavery than anything.
I may have fallen out of touch with the Assassin's Creed games but all of their games events were well told having done a ton of research (then embellish a little for fictional purposes) the same would be like this too.
Aveline's story line for AC deals directly with slaves and slavery. Even in AC4 Adewale DLC and his character directly deals with slavery. This is hardly anything new for the AC series and they have done this subject matter quite well unlike the whole stuff related to Connor and the Native
Americans. That was just poorly done.
So long as the new hero or heroine is cool and not just overly angry like Connor was than I am fine with whatever direction they go in. After the misstep that was Connor's character, the AC3 story was solid enough, I am sure they realize they need to error on the side of fun whether than forcing poorly done moral lessons on people.
Oh jeez I hope it isn't another western setting. They've done enough of those.
We haven't had one game take place in Asia. Feudal Japan or Ancient China would be amazing settings for the series.
@star, I agree with you, I am just speculating about what would and could happen. The War Between the States coupled with an Assassins (Abolition & the Underground Railroad) vs Templar (slavery and the secession) would be a ripe place to find a struggle.
And then out to the Old West for the next game. I did read someone earlier and I think it would be nice to have an AC for each continent. But, unfortunately, when the majority of your customers are from North America, then, you have to pander to them.
I get where you are coming from, but a lot of westerners have a keen interest in Asian cultures and history. Even for those that don't have a specific interest in those things, simply having a more exotic setting would gain many people's attention.
The truth is, I have loved every one of the Assassin's Creed games and I will probably love the next one no matter where it takes place. I just hope they fulfill the series' potential and take it to somewhere even more interesting and fitting for the series.
Yea but it was not emphasized or revolving around the conflict/events during that time...
Aside from Freedom Cry, though, they didn't really address it. It was more a little background detail--in other words, a monumental wasted opportunity.
Of course, most of AC3 was wasted opportunity.
American history ? The country is barely old enough for history , one game set in American history is enough IMO and should be left alone for the rest of the series, if I recall correctly the one based in America was also the least liked by everyone in general.
You know people lived here before European colonists came. For a long time actually- I read about them in a book but I cant remember what they were called...
As in slavery history not the history of the country before Europe was there, I thought that was kinda obvious but like german tourists the stupid are everywhere. The article is about a slavery based game, I don't think native Americans had slaves and even if they did I don't think there is enough known about pre European history in America to make a game about.
The Clovis and Folsom people now know as Native Americans. The truth is they migrate here like everyone else. They walk on a Ice bridge called the Bering Strait during the Ice Age to get to America(Turtle Island). And the most controversy answer to who they were is... Get Ready for this. Asians. Those historians make the Clovis and Folsom people sound like they were a mysterious race that no longer exist, but the truth is that they were Asian. They already found proof from a died Clovis 1 year old boy, buried with weapons all over the place.
http://www.natureworldnews....
Please tell me that's sarcasm because that would be sad if I knew more of your countries history then you do
Well just so you know Native Americans did have slaves. We actually know plenty about their history as well. Also slavery in North America lasted nearly 250 years. There are plenty of stories to tell and the whole concept of the underground railroad lends itself rather well to an espionage / assassin series. But then again "the country is barely old enough for history."
Maybe he meant no one cares enough about Americas young history to warrant 2 games based on it ? I for one couldn't care less about the civil war it's boring as hell and a game based on the railways is just snorefest ubi would not even think twice about such a bland idea IMO. I have a feeling it will be some kind of important history in mankind like Egypt or Japan maybe china but America again is just asking for low sales and a low score, I'm not trying to be anti American or anything but there are 100 countries with far richer and far older history to use.
I cant argue that. I just thought it was rather ignorant for someone to question American history and then in the follwoing response admit to a lack of knowledge on said subject. But yeah I think an Assassins Creed in another part of the world would be perfect. The series hasn't really touched Asia yet...
Why? We've seen that before in AC3 and even in AC4 they both featured Slavery themes.
Don't do a 12 Years A Slave where they think "Gee maybe if we do a slavery theme our stories will be well received...maybe we'll get GOTY"
That was my exact first thought too...as unfortunate and bad as it may seem, that is all I was thinking about. I would, personally, not like another game set in America because there are no cool buildings to scale and grand vistas to explore (again, as a game point of view) and would love something back in Europe or Egypt or Asia for a twist.
No thanks let's go further back in time. As much as I like AC4 I want something that is set in an older time period like feudal Japan or Egypt when they build the pyramids.
I couldn't agree more.
My top choices for the next game's setting are:
1. Feudal Japan
2. Ancient China
3. Egypt or India
As much as i can dig the historical and plot possibilities from this , i'll pass if it ever comes true . Ac3's setting was the worst possible one for a game still based on building leaping and acrobatics . Granted the game had other issues too , but still .
And AC4 while pretty good , has mostly been a sneaky distraction from this , with the kick ass allure of piracy . Ubi soft is aware of that , but if they wanna tuck away something like a Feodal japan based AC game or other popular settings , for rainy days , screw them
I'll selfishly say no outright to such an idea . And there have been enough people asking for other more interesting settings and time era every game
How about setting it in the future.... involving hacking thing with a cellphone and... oh wait..
Please let this not be true. The FreedomCry DLC was better than the Game itself but there are so many places they can choose to go. Why slavery again?
More than the life of an Assassin, the Assassin's creed series really let's you know exactly how it feels to be an abused suburban housewife. Just when you get tired of the subtle abuse and the being taken for granted, just when you screw up your courage enough to leave they come up with some grand over the top romantic gesture (AC2 or 4) so you think, 'oh they really have changed! They really do care!' Then a week later they're right back to sitting on the couch drinking beer all day and verbally abusing you when you step in front of the TV.
They should do one circa West Berlin 1948, The Cold War.. dark back alley's.. spies, double agents, CIA/KGB.
Who would you trust?
Other periods.. Revolutionary France or Napoleanic Era
World War I or II
Victorian London, 1888
San Francisco, 1906
Feudal Japan (when the Shogun were rulers and governors of Japan) please or Ancient Egypt (many possible ties to Templarism here).
There are so many vistas AC games are yet to include.
I loved AC4 (AC3 not so much) because of the pirate setting. It's a well know fact, you can NEVER go wrong with a pirate game.
But I want something further back in history. So NO, I don't want another AC in USA. AC3 wasn't very good IMO.
Guys it's confirmed AC5 will take place in Paris in France (Révolution Française) go here http://www.gameblog.fr/news...
In Ubisoft's press release last week they already said that AC5 is set in Victoria London and the character is Samuel Fey at the end of the Industrial Revolution.
Its so cruel just release the damn details ubisoft we deserve to know who the character is, where the setting is and if you are releasing two ac games this year.
Without starting an argument your comment is very ignorant. All of the games have a lot of story including ac3 which to be honest doesn't really deserve the hate it gets.
My dream setting for an Assassin's Creed game is still the trenches of WW1. Running through battlefields and jumping into trenches to stab enemy soldiers and joining resistance movements in the streets, THAT would be awesome. Victorian London would also be an amazing setting.
I guess any old gaming forum can start rumors now. It's probably CBOAT.
I thought Comet was the last gen game and Unity was current gen only.
Same game modded skin.
I don't see the point of releasing two different AC games at the same time. I just hope they only release Unity and forget last-gen to focus on current-gen only. Furthermore Jade Raymond recently told us she is working on a game, that is set in her favorite historical era and that kinda sounds not like a Black Flag 2 for me. I think and hope this rumor is false.
meh
I played Every AC game and was a huge fan of the series but I will continue to say it.. the series isn't the same after AC2 .. AC:B was good but not as AC2, AC:R average. and don't get me started on AC3. AC4 brought back hope but releasing two games the same year? no matter how they'll spin it ..it's milking.even if it's quality games ..ever since Patrice Désilets left and the series went downhill.. I just hope that this year installment goes back the roots .ohh and bring jesper kyd back
