“I Never Wanted It Anyway”: Gamers Should Think Differently About Exclusives

Titanfall released yesterday in North America for PC and Xbox One. As usual, there was no way that an exclusive game, especially a third-party one, could release without angering some overly sensitive gamers.

Titanfall looks like a good game for a specific type of gamer, but it also has many shortcomings that prevent it from hitting a larger audience

Things like bland graphics, no SP, bots, low player count in MP could be things, unstable frame-rates and screen-tearing that drive gamers away

The biggest problem is the overhyp, that actually hurt the game, because to push the momentum further it would need to be above the psychological barrier of "9", but the "8" scores waterd down the average to around 8.5, that will lead to some thinking the game doesn't live up to expectations, that is a reason for why things became a bit quite after the release. It doesn't help that Dark Souls2 is getting better reception, that will take a chunk of gamers mind-share

Another thing is the beta, the lack of depth to the game means their is little left to surprise us and keep us talking.

ZodTheRipper3691d ago

Well said. For me it's not "I never wanted it anyway" because I did.
It's more like "I can live without it" and that's what I do. It's not even a problem for me with games like MGS5 & inFamous around the corner. But I wish everyone a good time with Titanfall, I know I would it enjoy it too.

raWfodog3691d ago

Same here. If TitanFall was also available for the PS4, I'd pick it up (whenever I got a PS4). But there are other PS4 games that I'm looking forward to as well so it's not a big deal to me. If I really considered it a 'must have' then I would have no problem picking up a XB1 to play it. I've never been rabidly dedicated to a specific platform or console.

Army_of_Darkness3691d ago

At first I thought the game looked interesting, until I found out that it's multiplayer only. Big turn-off for me cause I mainly enjoy playing the single player campaign, which is why don't care for it at all...

Team_Litt3691d ago

Some people* have been on an anti-TF campaign from the word go though and so their opinion on the game is about as valuable as a velvet painting of a dolphin and a whale getting it on.

It is quite obvious when a person goes on a crusade against a game not releasing on his/her platform of choice. Even when they have valid points it just sounds like salty jelly. It is really quite sad because they invest so much time and effort into trying to discredit and undermine any positivity towards the game.

Chill people. It is just a video game. Great article.

*I won't mention who because this site has a very strict(read selective) definition of personal attack and trolling.

Hicken3691d ago

Not too many people have been hating on Titanfall since its reveal. Unless this is a new account for you, you missed that time by MONTHS.

Anyway, most people thought it looked pretty cool, myself included. The "hate" grew as things like forced exclusivity, low player count, slim pickings in the way of game modes, a whole lotta bots, and other such things came to light. If it made it to PlayStation consoles, I'm sure plenty more people would give it a try. I'd consider it, myself. But it's not a title I'd go too far to acquire even then, as it's not what I thought it would be.

The "crusades" you speak of aren't even attempts to bash the game; most such things I've seen have been efforts to bring some level of reality to the title's expectations. How many articles and comments have proclaimed it the next Modern Warfare? A game changer? A revolution for the FPS genre? Fun and addictive though it might be, objectivity would lead any reasonable person to reject the aforementioned as being likely.

I hear so many folks like yourself complaining about the "negative" comments made by people; I never see any complaints about those that overhype the game, though. And I'd think it would be obvious that overhype definitely plays a part in causing those "downplaying" comments to exist.

system223691d ago

lots of people say this game is overhyped, but you know what? I played it for 5 straight hours last night and didn't even realize it. I was a huge Call of Duty fan but got bored with it. This offers all of what makes COD great, but with new mechanics, new strategies. I don't think its overhyped. I think a lot of people just really like it that much. The servers were being pounded all night long in a way I have never seen before. Insane. Its all what a good shooter should be, and not much of the bs that people don't really care about it. DS2 on the other hand... not a game for me. Furthermore, Most of the reviews have been pretty solid. The ones that did bring the metascore down (slightly) are reviewers complaining about things like a lack of campaign... but people like me don't care about the campaign anyway. its just something to take up disk space

webeblazing3691d ago

funny thing people say it all the time on this site. they say every game they dont want or care about if its not on their console(you know who). but as soon as the game get ported to their console it a great game now. i seen people on here downplay other platforms using this. oh that platform dont have games, than flip soon as it come to theirs(witcher3, ps2, mgs). i seen people downplay devs because of loyality to a console, but as soon as theyre no 1st party contradict themselves(bungie, Insomniac).

I have a pc thats more than capable of playing titanfall it just does not impress me in the slightest and I would rather play bf4 since the cod style fps got boring awhile ago for me!

Team_Litt3691d ago

See you in the next article about the game that does not interest you at all...

Hicken3691d ago

You mean like you in any PlayStation article?

Team_Litt3690d ago

Except that I have a PlayStation, albeit it's a ps3, not a ps4 AND I've never expressed my disinterest in a game only to repeatedly trawl its articles...like you and TitanFall.

lonelyplayer3691d ago

I don't really want it because I am not fan of shooters, I can play them occasionally but that's all.
That said I really think TF will come to PS4 eventually.

SteamPowered3691d ago

I never say " I didn't want it anyways". I always tell myself "you can get it for cheaper if you wait a bit". Goes for consoles as well as games.

jagstatboy3691d ago

I seriously don't get all the jealousy. Sony has better exclusives all around, in my opinion but that doesn't mean that Titanfall sucks. In fact, I wish like HELL the game was on Playstation. I really want to play it.

webeblazing3691d ago

on this site if its not on a sony platform its not worth having.

ShaunCameron3691d ago (Edited 3691d ago )

Pretty much. They have some serious entitlement issues.

ShaunCameron3691d ago

But I do. A lot of Sony fanboys think they're entitled to every worthwhile game the industry has to offer, even rival platform first-party exclusives.

inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM98d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck98d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati98d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88130d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183128d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie128d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.

Barlos143d ago

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,
