Microsoft's "Biggest Surprise Ever" Might Be Coming at E3

Microsoft’s gears are spinning in preparation of this year’s E3, but we might be in for something bigger than most think.

Bigger Surprise Ever? does that even make sense

Edit: Now my comment makes no sense, gonna have to type something on topic........

The biggest surprise EVER would be IF MS said "we've taken over work on The Last Guardian and it will launch exclusively on the XB1" yep, that really would be surprising news, it would TOTALLY surprise me

Now watch people take me seriously "that will NEVER happen damn you, Sony owns the rights"

ArchangelMike3696d ago

It's probably a Kinect-less XbOne SKU.

Kingthrash3603696d ago

that wouldnt be much a surprise...prolly a blinx sequel.

fermcr3696d ago

That exactly wouldn't be a surprise. Microsoft has to do something, and that's one of their options to get the X1 price way down... unless they are dumb enough to continue insisting on Kinect with every X1.

DarthZoolu3696d ago

Free Halo 5 for Xbox One.

vishmarx3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Half life 3,Kotor 3,or some huge old franchise everyone's forgotten about being made by the laid off devs from irrational, eidos, mercury steam, uncharted, sony SM all working on the same game.

hell lol FF7 remake xb1 exclusive
while were bullshitting

TheTwelve3696d ago

A Kinect-less Xbox would be common sense, but no surprise.

Saigon3696d ago

To me a big surprise would be taking over an IP that was once a Sony IP or creating a new intense IP altogether. But being that this is MS, most likely it is a New IP or some exclusive DLC. I would also assume that their second screen thing may be ready to fully implement with a new hand held device.

Shadow Flare3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Not sure if it's true but I heard someone in Japan has preordered an Xbox One

BX813696d ago

Idk why the first thing I thought was a life size Titan.

Gorilla_Killa_X3696d ago

@Shadowflare, lol. Bubble for you.

abzdine3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

no matter how big the surprise is nothing will make me buy an X1.
Wii U PS4 best combo this gen by FAR!

darthv723696d ago

@abzdine, yeah that is a pretty great combo. Actually, pair up a Wii-u with either one of the bigger consoles and you have a great combo.

Wii-u makes a really good side dish to the main course. Just need more people to think openly to getting one and they wont be disappointed.

4Sh0w3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Nope, microsoft has proven they could reduce the price AND keep Kinect also they are doing pretty well with kinect which is why they've re-emphasize there isn't going to be a kinect less sku.

I hope their big surprise has something to do with the cloud and or something groundbreaking for Halo5 or yet another brand new IP on the level of Quantum Break.

kickerz3696d ago

Hope it's an awesome surprise and not a bad surprise (like finding skiddies on your undies)

MorePowerOfGreen3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Never going to happen.

MSFT has mentioned several times about watching out for who you see walking on their stage. Also, they may have a game possibly being enhanced by cloud compute in much more profound ways.

I know you guys hope and pray Kinect goes away but if anything, MSFT could show another Kinect revolution at any time, so I believe them when they say a kinect-less SKU will never happen, over and over again I might add.

The web would explode if Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aime walked out on MSFT's presser stage.

SourShoes3696d ago

@morepowerofgreen
"The web would explode if Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aime walked out on MSFT's presser stage."
I believe that will happen about as much as I believe Vlad Putin when he says, "Those are not Russian forces in Crimea."

kickerz3696d ago

A virtual reality headset that works with kinect would be very awesome :)

darthv723696d ago

MS to partner with Sega and release Shenmue 3 exclusively for XB1.

dantesparda3696d ago

"Microsoft's "Biggest Surprise Ever" Might Be Coming at E3"

Can you say "hype", can you say hyperbole?!

dantesparda3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

The reveal of the secret sauce! a new system, they are becoming a 3rd party to Sony. They are buying out Sony, errr Nintendo, Sony and MS walking out on stage holding hands and admitting that they're married, they are my father. I can keep going.

Pogmathoin3696d ago

I am sure if it was something incredible, with no negativity with it at all, and was something that could only be praised, it would still suck here till Sony does the same thing...

DigitalRaptor3696d ago

@ Darthv72

Don't get ahead of yourself dude. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

It's ridiculous to suggest Sega would partner up with Microsoft to make a sequel to a game that bombed on their system, would bomb again, and was only there because Peter Moore shut out the Dreamcast version from the US, when he jumped ship from Sega of America to Xbox division.

jebabcock3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Kinect 3.0? Just kidding... Could be a game streaming system of their own for older games.

Giul_Xainx3696d ago

Please surprise me Microsoft. Because if you don't..... Don Matrick will be rehired.

DealWithIt3696d ago

Or... given last few E3s, it could be Kinect 3.0

AliTheSnake13696d ago

It's Halo 7, Pre-order and get into Gears of war 17's Beta.

kreate3696d ago

They might show the power of the cloud?

Narutone663696d ago

They're making a handheld or Windows phone will support Xbox1 game streaming.

Anarki3696d ago

May be tempted to purchase one if it comes down to sub £300 without a kinect. That thing is worthless to me and would spend all its time facing the wall/unplugged.

PoSTedUP3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Handheld.

@narutone- yeah thats what i was thinking earlier. either that or they secure the Shield??

DragonKnight3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

It's a Gears of War TV show.

@darth: Rumours suggest Sega has lost the trademark to Shenmue, meaning that partnering with MS would be meaningless.

Nine_Thousaaandd3696d ago

Damn folks, really....Kinectless Xbone? No freaking way! If they do that, Xbone will fail for sure...and this is coming from a PS fan.

When Microsoft developed the Xbone, the idea was to make a console this time around with Kinect built into it...sort of. As you can tell already, Kinect was a cool idea...but struggled to match the sales of 360 hardware. Microsoft's vision for voice commands and motion control didn't take off as planned. If we look back at addons for previous consoles...all of them failed. Most gamers don't care to purchase addons for their consoles...if it's not included, then pretty much it will fail. And this is the result of Xbox One w/Kinect included.

Microsoft had a vision...Xbox and Kinect is the future of gaming, voice commands, motion control, TV...and all-in-one system that can do it all. Now Xbots are shouting for a Kinectless Xbone...lol. Think long and hard Xbots, removing Kinect will destroy Xbox One. People see a much better value in one price to play a game, not two. Plus developers will have access to Kinect at all times, no more Xbox vs Xbox w/Kinect games.

Think about it, they remove Kinect...it's back to 2 different sku's to market games on Xbox. Complete FAIL! Developers will choose Xbox over Kinect most of the time. Another FAIL! Another $100 for Kinect on top of spending $400 for the hardware to play a game...major FAIL, 360 all over again!

When gamers said NO Kinect this time...Microsoft was like screw ya'll...incoming Xbox One w/Kinect @$499.99! Their vision, not the gamer's vision...Microsoft's vision. Kinect is here to stay folks, it's part of the package so deal with it. All they can do at this point is lose more money on Xbone with a major price cut and buy more 3rd party games to make exclusive to Xbone!

Funny the same people praising Xbox and Microsoft are shouting for a Kinectless Xbone. Remove Kinect, may as well buy a cheap desktop and a Xbone controller...with Windows 8 interface, it will feel like an Xbone for sure!

Wizard_King3695d ago Show
Perjoss3695d ago

Do you think they even realize how many units they will shift if they just remove the kinect and drop the price?

nveenio3695d ago Show
mewhy323695d ago

Hopefully you will see a price drop to about 299.99 w/o the kinect. That would put the price/power ratio into a more realistic realm and enable it to better compete with the PS4.

Antwan3k3695d ago (Edited 3695d ago )

The people asking for a Kinect-less Xbox One SKU at this point have to be either trolling or have no clue.. That's just my honest opinion

The Kinect 2.0 is one of the Xbox One's primary differentiating factors when you consider the fact that the PS4 has the more powerful hardware.. It's the same as the Wii U's gamepad.. Weaker hardware specs but added potential for innovation and features.. Now, unlike Nintendo and Microsoft, Sony decided to play it safe and put out a "PS3.5" and so far it is REALLY paying off for them.. Kudos to Sony.. But to get rid of the Kinect and price the Xbox One at $399 would only serve to kill any potential the Kinect 2.0 ever had, officially positioning the Xbox One as an "underpowered PS4" while selling it for the same price, and totally limiting or eliminating the overall vision and future planning that Microsoft had for their console..

Sell the Xbox One without Kinect for $399 and the PS4 still wins due to an apples-to-apples comparison of two "pure gaming consoles" in which the PS4 has the better hardware specs.. That would be incredibly stupid

Now, eventually sell the Xbox One WITH Kinect for $399 and we have an entirely new ball game. You have an apples-to-oranges scenario in which you have a "pure gaming console" versus "an all-in-one gaming and media console" for the same price.. With the proper marketing, that's a value argument that Microsoft can potentially win..

Please STOP asking for console suicide by requesting a Kinect-less Xbox One SKU.. Instead, ask for Microsoft to eat the costs and just drop the Xbox One price while still keeping Kinect standard..

at the same price point of $399, even if you don't want Kinect, you'd essentially be getting it for FREE.. At that point, there's no room for complaint and EVERYBODY WINS.. The people who don't want Kinect can simply never plug it in.. It was FREE, who cares?.. Microsoft can still continue with their vision of the console.. Developers can confidently dedicate the time and resources to making relevant and innovative Kinect experiences.. And consumers can immediately justify their Xbox One purchase value with the added hardware their getting out of the box in comparison to the now "bare bones" PS4 they would have bought for the same price.. This is the only winning strategy at this point..

how is this simple concept lost on so many people?.. I'm almost convinced that the people screaming for a Kinect-less SKU have no interest in the Xbox One succeeding, prefer PS4, and probably have no plans of buying a Xbox One to begin with..

in the console development stages, yea I could see your point.. Microsoft had some options in terms of Kinect.. But once both console specs where announced and the PS4 had the hardware advantage, Microsoft only had two choices: package every console with Kinect and with eventual price drops, beat the PS4 on value. Or don't offer a Kinect SKU at all (which would render the Kinect 2.0 just as useless as the PS Eye), undercut the PS4 with a price of $299 or $349, and just be known as the Xbox 360.5 "budget console"..

the later strategy would have won the early adopter war (the war that Sony is currently winning) but would lose traction over time with PS4 price drops and them offering the better hardware.. The current strategy will be beneficial in the long run for the reasons I've illustrated above but at a loss of early momentum.. The split SKU strategy some of you geniuses are proposing would be an all around fail.. Period..

I want to say it could be timed GTA V Xbone exclusivity.

I said a few posts back that Microsoft moneyhatting has to be strategic instead of outlandish, this is a possibility, but Take-Two's GTA(V) is worth way more than a few Titanfalls. It's a multi billion dollar franchise, by itself.

Silent Hill, exclusive to Xbone, maybe Final Fantasy XV.. who knows... it's too early for me to think atm, lol.

Maybe 399.99 kinectless xbone with a free game.
Remember, what doesn't surprise us, probably surprises a poop ton more people.

djplonker3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

You really think ff15 could be an xbox exclusive?

Japan loves final fantasy but they hate the xbox... yeah that could totally work out -.-

p.s conidering the power of the xbone why release a new version of gta v on it because it wont be much better than the 360 version!

Tempest3173696d ago

I doubt it would be gta v, rockstar would lose way too much money on a deal like that. Would they give up the (currently) 6 million+ possible sales on ps4 just to put it on x1? Definitely not. FF XV also definitely not, has there even been a main entry (since ff7) that hasn't been on a Sony console? I honestly don't think it will have anything to do with games other than the standard x1 exclusives. If they really want it to be exciting, theyre going to have to showcase the hardware capabilities AND their first party exclusives that are leveraging that power.

daedra3696d ago

Or Uncharted 4 being multiplatform and coming to Xbox One.

PONTIAC08G8GT3696d ago

As an X1 owner I'd be happy about that haha. But I'm pretty sure that won't ever happen. Sony wouldn't let it.

James-GAMES3696d ago

Sony owns Naughty Dog so that won't happen.

goldwyncq3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

You do realize I wasn't being serious about that, do you?

Jdoki3696d ago

Hmm, so what sort of announcement would constitute 'the biggest surprise ever'?

MS buys PlaysStation from Sony. That would be surprising.

GTA VI is exclusive to XB1. That would do it.

Re-enabling DRM... Nah, that wouldn't surprise me at all.

Raiden3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

No no no, i think you all have it wrong, i believe MS has bought a publisher, EA or Activision with all IP's and back catalogue that would be a REALLY BIG surprise or it's Rockstar gaming company with all rights to current software. The games will still be multiplatform delayed release.

You know what will really Surprise everybody is that Microsoft going to stage and saying "DRM is Back" i don't think that is impossible there have also been some articles talking of Microsoft bringing the drm back. they removed the drm with an update so they wont take it of the console completely it still there

Silly Mammo3696d ago

MS would never make an announcement about bringing back DRM, they would just quietly implement it.

AndrewLB3696d ago

Just like Sony did. lol. You fanboys are so blind to not even know that Sony had almost identical DRM for the PS4 but they were smart enough to keep their mouths shut, and when Microsoft went public with their proposed DRM and got completely obliterated by gamers and the press... sony quietly sat back, enjoyed the show, and removed the DRM in the day 1 patch.

Don't believe me? Educate yourself: http://ps4daily.com/2013/06...

maddskull3696d ago

but they would do it eventually and the fanboys will say that they always wanted the drm.

OCEANGROWNKUSH3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

@andrewlb

did you read the article? says sony may originally have had plans to have DRM, and changed it to no DRM after MS announced thier plans... nice try though

Jdoki3696d ago

@AndrewLB

Take another look at that piece of 'journalism' you linked to. No actual quote or even a link.

Here's the actual quote:

"There were lots of people who gave their opinions on that issue to my Twitter account before E3," SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told Famitsu magazine this week.

"It's not that our hardware policies are decided strictly based on user reaction like this, but when we were thinking about what we had to bring across and how to bring it across, it was a very useful source."

Where in that quote does he say they reversed a decision or quietly dropped DRM. You have nothing but speculation.

Also the PS4 was announced with a lot of info months before the news that XB1 had more restrictive DRM.

You know what, I'm not even arguing that Sony considered DRM - they would have at some point in the design process - but you blindly believe the info pulled from one source with no supporting information and have the nerve to tell people to go educate themselves.

TheGreenMan3696d ago

@AndrewLB

So you're telling people to "educate themselves" by providing an article with no sources? Do ya see the irony in that?

lifeisgamesok3696d ago

Wont be a Kinectless SKU people can say that all they want but the xbox one will always have Kinect 2 with it.

Ide expect it to be a big name game making a come back exclusive to the xbox console. What I don't know but looking forward to E3 this year as I think all 3 will have some big games and news for us.

andrewsqual3696d ago

Maybe they take the leash off Rare and let them make games again? Good games? That would shock me.

I bet it is a Sequel to the Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood. *MIND BLOWN.

MetaReapre3696d ago

Biggest surprise, eh? I can't really think of one...

"New Xbox One, Kinect-less, Disc drive-less, controller-less for 200 dollars!"

Would that be surprising? lol

I can't think of one thing that would be surprising for Xb1 news, unless it's some sort of old IP being revitalized that everyone loved... I'm not familiar with the original Xbox's exclusives... is there even one that people could think of?

Wait... Shenmue 3 only for XB1? that to me would be surprising news lol

Drewidian3696d ago

It could be a partnership with one or more cable companies offering subsidized Xbox Ones for $99 down on a 2 year contract with free Xbox Live for the 2 years starting on the fall with interactive TV an and a Titanfall series exclusively to Microsoft.

3696d ago
Drewidian3696d ago

@N64Fan. There is a lot of potential for partnerships with different cable and satellite companies that just aren't there for the PS4 in part due to the HDMI input and the way MS architected the multitasking and One guide. The cable companies have tried everything under the sun to stop cord cutting and nothing has worked. They are still loosing hundreds of thousands of subscribers every quarter. The Xbox One is a perfect addition to that arsenal as a way of stopping this. MS is making content for their own TV services that could sweeten the deal. Imagine voting live for shows like survivor for challenges and missions, or asking questions directly on a news show to an interviewer. Right now the Xbox one us the only system capable of this interactivity. The real kicker is that it does this with the existing video network and only a small am out of data would be required not putting a strain on the network when hundreds of thousands to millions of users are accessing the service concurrently. There are a number of other reasons it makes sense, but ask yourself who will buy a PS4 after the next gen gamer market is saturated? Last gen sold a out 80M of ps3 and 360s, and 110M Wii consoles. The Wii U is a stillborn product, but lets say Sony sells 20M this year and Xbox one 12M as stand alone. If MS gets say Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, and AT&T to sell them as a subsidized unit on contract, MS could beat Sony as there are far more cable subscribers than console gamers, and it may even persuade some of the cord cutters to come back....

Gorilla_Killa_X3696d ago

Heck, 90% of the comments on this MICROSOFT NEWS are from ps4 fanboys with sarcastic comments.

By the way, so irritating how everyone spells it sooooo gay...

Titanfall plus new exciting news makes this a good time to own an x1.

AngelicIceDiamond3696d ago

Hmmm.

"First 50 people in line will receive a custom Titanfall t-shirt [...] one select winner will receive a free ride and ticket to this year’s E3 to witness Microsoft’s biggest surprise ever .”

Yep I'm not getting my hopes up the winner probably has backstage access at E3 to see what MS is working on. Or win a free copy for whatever unannounced game it is.

I hoping for a huge, huge, surprise from MS but its probably only relevant for the contest winner.

AndrewLB3696d ago

Backstage? This isn't a concert, it's a convention for people working in the video game industry, developers, publishers, the press, and for hardware manufacturers to show off the latest and greatest. I've attended it 4 times and had amazing access to just about anything or anyone. See.. when tickets cost $800 or so per person for 3 days, they don't have to worry about a lot of the riff-raff that would show up if it were $50.
I pretty much went anywhere I wanted, including behind the scenes at Microsoft's Xbox 360 booth in 2005 when they showed it off for the very first time and i managed to snap a photo of what was REALLY playing the games. It sure wasn't 360 hardware! PowerMac G5 dual-processor systems!

You don't get numbers like that from MS mouth pieces, they just like to say stuff like "this game was looked at 129 million time, the biggest amount of people browsing a game of this genre on xbox gamepass ever in the last 3 weeks compared to before gamepass was out (small print only 2 million bothered playing longer than 20 seconds and only 100 people are playing it concurrently)

It's all smoke and mirrors

There are usually around 10,000 concurrent users on Steam not counting Xbox or PS but really it doesn't matter as long as there are enough people on the servers to play which there always were and will be for a long time now with the PS players coming on board. Same goes for how many people bought it and how many are on GP, we aren't the accountants of these console companies so why would we care?

Reporting on MAU stats is very misleading. Other companies publish units sold, MS cannot or will not due to Game Pass. We all know that their prior startegies have not panned out so now they have to actually sell games on other consoles. In any case, SoT is doing impressive preorders on PS5 and will very likely motivate Satya to release more games other than the four indicated games on their competitor's consoles. Take note Phil is radio silent....

40 Mil across Stream, Windows 10, and Xbox. Healthy numbers for sure, but when PC is the biggest platform, I expected more. It’ll be interesting to see how it does on PlayStation. Very well could be double that player count in 6 months with PS too. It’s crazy for developers to skip the most popular platform, not sure why they’d want to, but they must have had their rea$ons.
