Rumor – Titanfall on Xbox One Might Get Upgraded to 1080p on Launch

MP1st - Titanfall might be getting a resolution boost on the Xbox One shortly after its launch on March 11.

allformats3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

It's a lie. They're trying to build more hype. If this was going to happen, it'd happen from day one.

No one should ever trust EA, far less a source that claims to have close ties to it.

Nah, I don't think it will be 1080p just more rumors to have something to fight about later. The beta was superb at 792p or whatever; games are not just about res and graphics. We've already seen res is not most important in regards to "visuals" and definitely "gameplay", there's a 900p exclusive that looks better than anything else on a console, there are 1080p games that play like a basic ps2 level platformer and still cost $60, so let the pixel counters count, hopefully those kind will be holding hands amongst themselves, still counting, lol while I play the hell out of Titanfall on my X1.

GarrusVakarian3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

I don't think it will be 1080p either.....if the beta had framerate dips into the 30's at 792p...then bumping the res up to 1080p would make the framerate unplayable.

It would be great....but no, i don't see this happening. In the words of Respawn...."framerate is king". They won't compromise the framerate even further just to reach 1080p...and so they shouldn't.

Sure, sure, dude. In your dreams!

mewhy323703d ago

There are those that want the most for their money and xbone is not that. Pay 100.00 for less is stupid just like ms hoped gamers would be when the said you have to take the nsa kinect, you can't trade used games, you have to be online, and we're doing it all for a whopping 499.99!!!! You'll love it!!!!! If you don't then get yourself a 360 http://youtu.be/2Z-PvKLHDOw

alexkoepp3703d ago

Game is super fun. It's fun at 720p, if true it'll be fun at 1080p. Simple as that, really doesn't matter.

u got owned3703d ago

highly doubt it, maybe 900p but 1080p hmmm... don't count on it.

Eonjay3703d ago

This is getting dumb and I blame Respawn. They should just say what it is. But they wont so we can keep talking about it. Seriously, this is why I respect Kojima. He was like BOOM this is what it is. End of story.

TomShoe3703d ago

It's possible, but I don't see what the point is. The XBOs upscaler was just going to output at 1080p (not native) anyways. Pushing the resolution would make the textures crappier, so why would you do that?

SmielmaN3703d ago

If it was going to 1080p MS and respawn would be trumpeting it from the rooftops. This is PR hype to make ppl talk. It's working, but if it was true the developer and MS would yelling it at us with a megaphone. Don't believe it

ProjectVulcan3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

I seriously doubt the game will run any higher resolution than the beta because it would take a vast improvement in performance to manage it.

Sometimes I wonder if the best solution to stop people moaning is to have selectable resolution/performance.

You can have 1408 x 792 averaging near 60FPS, or you can have 1600 x 900 and locked solid to 30FPS. Two modes.

Then have the game collect data when it's online and see who actually goes for the higher resolution.

It might settle the argument, because I don't think many playing an online shooter would give up the framerate. Be interesting, anyway

darthv723703d ago

It will be 1080p, the scaler in the XB1 says hi.

I didnt say "native" though.

VENOMACR12273702d ago

Maybe I'm the only person, but I really could careless if its 1080 or 792. Of course I'd prefer 1080 lol but the game is fun to play and to me that's the selling point for this game.

dantesparda3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

"Rumor – Titanfall on Xbox One Might Get Upgraded to 1080p on Launch"

Why? MS fanboys claim they dont care about res and claim framerate is king. So Respwan instead of worrying about upping the res, work on upping the framerate so it doesnt dip to the 30's. Make it 720p or sub720p if you have to, to achieve that. And dont worry cuz MS fanboys dont care about res anyways.

@ 4show, who i think is just an alternate account for PowerVR

Like imt558 said, "in your dreams" kid. Ghosts on the X1 looks better and performs than Titanfall

SilentNegotiator3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

"there's a 900p exclusive that looks better than anything else on a console"

Really? How long can people live in denial?

danthegamerfiend3702d ago

Im with venomacr1227 who cares what the resolution will be. As long as it doesnt affect the gameplay and overall fun of the game. Why does it matter. I know i will be enjoying the shit out of this game when it comes and resolution will be a thing of the past. For anyone to say that Ghosts runs better then this game, needs to sober up from whatever crazy juice they are drinking.

Xsilver3703d ago

it's too hard believe because you think something like this would of been announced already since the release of the game is so close.

bleedsoe9mm3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

what if it depends if ms gets the update out on time and respawn doesn't want to promise things that it doesn't have control over

cozomel3702d ago

"what if"

what if its not?

brich2333703d ago

If Ubisoft was able to do it with Assassins Creed on PS4, than respawn will be able to do it for their game also.

starchild3703d ago

It's possible, but fairly unlikely.

GarrusVakarian3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

Lol, what? It doesn't work like that...different game, different devs, different system entirely.

AC4 on PS4 before it was patched ran at locked 30fps 900p....obviously Ubisoft thought the PS4 could handle a bump up to 1080p....and it did, it runs at locked 30fps at 1080p.

But if Titanfall is dipping into the 30's at 792p....then why would Respawn up the res to 1080p? It would be an unnecessary addition and one that would further hinder the framerate. They 'could' do it....but they shouldn't. Framerate should be king in games like these....Respawn said that themselves-

"Digital Foundry: 1080p60 on Xbox One?

Drew McCoy: We'll see how performance goes. Frame-rate is king."

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

loulou3703d ago

but everyone should trust you allformats/dedicatedtogamers right??

i dont think that it will be 1080p either though

dantesparda3702d ago

so wait,... should we trust you then? Just saying.

Edsword3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

It would be ridiculous for MS(or respawn) to wait until they launch the game and then say, oh by the way we hit 1080p. It might deliver a cool talking point, but all they have done to defend the resolution, they would basically be telling the consumer, oh 1080p does matter. Could you imagine if they did this and then the game struggled in the fps department? It would be suicidal. This ranks as one of the dumbest rumors I have heard yet. The game will run at a resolution below 1080p and it will upscale to 1080p.

Angainor73703d ago

@ Hatsune Go back to your cave and play Knack troll..

Elit3Nick3703d ago

So people shouldn't trust EA's word about their own game, but it's ok to trust people like CBOAT who got/is getting banned for false information that the fanboys here desperately wanted to believe.

dantesparda3702d ago

Umm, its not EA saying this, its just another person claiming to have inside info just like CBOAT. So by your own figuring, we shouldnt believe this guy either otherwise you are just being a hypocrit and fanboyish

"A Titanfall community member going by the name “DucatiRossi46″ who works “closely with Respawn and EA” has allegedly been told by the studio that “they are aiming for 1080p at launch following the Xbox One patches“.

According to him, “there will be 2 patches pre-release, which should get it to 1080p following the Xbox One patches.”

Nothing more than a rumor, the beta was already dipping into the 30's, so i doubt it

alejandroelputo3703d ago

Its hard to hear xbone and 1080p together when the ps4 is not on the same sentence

Bigpappy3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

If they were to do that and make people expect 1080p then not deliver, that will hurt way more than help. That makes no marketing sense what so ever. May increase day one a tad for those who see this as important for what ever reason.

For the record I hope they don't try for 1080p, as I believe that would end up hurting the gameplay. That is a stupid move for this type of game. If they can get the res up and maintain the frame rate, great. Else leave it to heck alone.

Respawn said they were going to up the res, but I agree with them not announcing a res until they have one that does not hurt the game. You should never promise until you are sure that is the best you could deliver without hurting the overall game.

StrangerX3702d ago

Huh? Why not? I mean, Assassin's creed wasn't 1080p when it came out on PS4 and was updated to that resolution so in regards to Titanfall's resolution, its very much possible since Xbox one was able to handle Forza5 which it has way more quality textures and achieved 1080p/60fps.,so even thou I don't really care if the resolution is bumped or not to 1080p, I rather them take their time in adding and perfecting the server and do all those 1080p higher textures and so on in their sequel with obviously a new graphic engine. But the 1080p bump is very possible even more with the updated SDK tools.

bornsinner3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

so you wouldn't buy a highly rated game if it wasn't 1080p?... wow what an idiot. i believe it will probably be 900p but even if it remains 792p as long as it's hd or sub hd we cant really tell the difference. anyone who says different are just kidding themselves. and i play on a 42 inch sony bravia 653 tv, sure side by side it looks a lil smoother but the difference is tiny.

cozomel3702d ago

Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that. Maybe if you believe it hard enough, it'll become true.

JeffGUNZ3702d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 1080 by launch considering the engine used isn't very demanding. I don't think they can guarantee until after the patch is launched and verified. The beta was fantastic, so if it's that I'd be happy, but I don't think 1080 is totally out of the question.

cozomel3702d ago

"considering the engine used isn't very demanding"

Yet the game drops to 35fps and is only 792p

bleedsoe9mm3702d ago

giantbomb reported titanfall was running at 1080p at the LA preview event on the xb1 hardware , he never mentioned it again , making it sound like he broke embargo on that news , which would make sense if respawn was hoping to get 1080 for launch but was dependent on microsoft getting the hardware update out and working on schedule

bennissimo3702d ago

1080p is irrelevant. This game is awesome at any resolution.

Can we all agree to put this resolution crap to bed?

xx4xx3702d ago

I doubt it'll run at 1080p, but not going to venture a guess on final resolution. There are some things i can be patient with....I can wait the 2 weeks or so when it's confirmed or releases.

kopicha3702d ago

doubt so... obviously fake just to hype. it can bearly run consistently at 60fps during the beta.. unless they intend to change the fps to 30fps which is the last thing they want to do for this game

SilentNegotiator3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

792p to 1080p? Yeah f***ing right.

It's doubtful that it will even get to the 900p that they teased might happen, seeing as they haven't paraded about anything other than it being "def above 720p" (said through their friend at Epic Games).

danthegamerfiend3702d ago

at Hatsune-Miku People said that about the ps3 and look how that one turned out. Come back when the PS4 has a fully fledged multiplayer title to compare to.

Fireseed3703d ago

You do realize that performance is determined by the quality of the assets and not age of the engine... right?

kiz26943703d ago

I think the engine has been heavily edited and bloated (going by the huge install size for both X1 and PC) so it will be a little more straining than just stock source.

starchild3703d ago

Some of you don't seem to understand how game engines work. You put WAY too much importance on which engine a game is using.

In reality a game engine doesn't tell you a whole lot about how good a game will look or how advanced the graphics will be. There are Cryengine games that don't look anywhere near as good as the Crysis games, for example.

Or to give another example...the difference between the very worst looking UE3 game and the best UE3 game is literally night and day. We're talking a VAST difference.

Thief on PC is in the top 5 best looking games on the platform and it uses the Unreal Engine 3. But it has tessellation, high quality light shafts, parallax occlusion mapping, screen space reflections, contact hardening shadows, bokeh depth of field and whole bunch of other graphical effects and techniques that make it an outstanding looking DirectX11 title.

Engines are not static things the way some of you imagine. They evolve and improve over time, and are even radically altered on a game to game basis.

Hope this is true but even if its not not really bothered, beta looked good enough for me and is as fun as any multiplayer shooter ive had for a while , roll on march 14th !

iamnsuperman3703d ago

Unlikely. Resolution tends not to change after a game goes Gold. I can see it being 900p

Manic20143703d ago

True, but like Black Flag on PS4, it may get a patch to bring it up to 1080p. It's highly doubtful due to the recent resolution difficulties for the xb1.

AutoCad3703d ago

no problems once new sdk is hands of developers.
Its possible respawn has had theirs therefore these graphical updates.

gameplay makes this game.

Manic20143703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

@Autocad
I'm still hoping the Xb1 outputs 1080p native soon. Hopefully the new SDK get them closer for higher graphical fidelity.

MorePowerOfGreen3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

Multi plats on PS4 were patched to 1080p on day one of retail. COD/ACBF

It's crazy how Sony fans turn 1080p into a idol/god, treating 1080p and xb1 in the same sentence as blasphemous nonsense. 1080p issues on XB1 has nothing to do with PS4 and everything to do with unfinished XB1 SDK/Dev tools.

Like I said, when the resolution differences rumors leaked for Durango and Orbis the original rumors said the Dev tools were to blame due to MSFT being far behind and the hate bandwagon ignored that and/or swept that part of the rumors under the rug, solely focusing on the differences of launch window games and not the real reason.

Based on what they did with Twitch the new SDK wait should be worth it as well.

EDIT
@Lukas_Japonicus

Say what!? LMAO

Sounds salty

GarrusVakarian3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

Man, give it a rest. Being you must be so tiring. You talk more about Sony fans than you do anything else.

Those PS4 games received the 1080p patches because the devs deemed the PS4 powerful enough to run them at 1080p.....whereas patching Titanfall to 1080p while it can't even hold 60fps at 792 is illogical.

60fps >>>> 1080p in competitive MP FPS, i hope they don't compromise on framerate.

@Autocad

"just how thief on ps4 drops to 9fps right?"

Just like how Killzone SF runs at 1080p locked 30fps (30-60fps without locking), right? Thief was a mess on the X1 too, check the reviews, it dipped below 30fps even at 900p. Think before you type, otherwise you make yourself look foolish.

Plus, what i said is fact, the devs deemed the PS4 powerful enough to run CoD and AC4 in 1080p...so they patched 1080p in...and the PS4 runs them fine....so i don't get the point of your comment.

iamnsuperman3703d ago

Firstly, You are talking about launch games that have been ported over from last gen systems

Secondly, you cite two examples. I said it was unlikely as resolution tends not to change. No definite not just unlikely

AutoCad3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

@Lukas just how thief on ps4 drops to 9fps right?

GarrusVakarian3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

What sounds salty? Im BUYING this game, the beta was great, i loved it and Respawn will be getting my money...so no saltiness from me. The only salt i see are from your comments, day in day out. So you calling me salty completely backfires when you realise not only am i buying TF, but im buying an X1 just for it.

All i did was state fact, games on PS4 (AC4 and CoD) were patched to 1080p because the devs deemed it possible...that is fact. That is literally what happened.

It's also fact that TF has signifticant framerate dips at 792p- http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Again, fact. But you and a couple of others in this article use the logic that..."if AC4, CoD can receive patches for 1080P on PS4...then so can Titanfall on X1".....but it doesn't work like that, devs are only going to patch 1080p in if they think the console can handle it. 1080p costs power, fact.

So is it not logical to say that upping the res of Titanfall to 1080p will incur even further framerate drops? You can't just add 1080p in and expect the framerate not to suffer. As far as this whole "1080p SDK" thing is concerned, i have little knowledge in this, so i won't act like i know what im talking about. But if that does help with running the game in 1080p then that will be fantastic...but in the X1's current state and Titanfalls state in the beta.....a 1080p bump would definitely hinder the already fluctuating framerate. Fact.

I also find it hilarious that AutCad is getting any agrees with a comment like that, there are tons of games on PS4 that run at 1080p locked 30fps or ABOVE that look better visually than Thief. To actually think that thief's performance on the PS4 is anything to do with the PS4 itself is downright stupid, the devs themselves admit to the game "not being perfect".

Im getting a lot of disagrees from blind, denial ridden Xbox fans that can't see basic logic and facts. They assume im just a Sony fanboy bashing Titanfall.....how wrong you are.

Mr-Dude3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

@morepowerofgreen

And what if these "New" sdk also doesn't do the trick? What is the next excuse? Lazy developers or the supposed secret hardware? And don't you think Sony doesn't also keep upgrading with firmware and a new sdk?

Man, we Sony fans can be in denial but you guys break records...

4Sh0w3703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

Lukas nothings final and while you keep posting the Digital Foundry link its still noted that the beta ran very well overall. Also Im not saying it will be 900p but you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes with further optimizations it is entirely possible or not to hit 900p with a stable framerate. Regardless whether you are buying the game you can't make any matter of fact statements, the same way you acknowledge devs were able to go back and optimise for better res with AC BF you don't know for sure what Respawn may or may not be able to do with Titanfall, not even Digital Foundry ruled anything out and of course they've made some errors themselves already this gen with res claims.

DoesUs3702d ago

Still going to Misterxmedia (AKA iMad on N4G). Lol, TF won't be 1080p, new tools are not going to see 50% improvements. Sadly no tools can help with an underpowered GPU and bad memory setup 8) OUCH!

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad865d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal864d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
