First Dark Souls II Review Score is Out

Dark Souls II receives a great score from a German magazine called M! Games.

KingKelloggTheWH3711d ago

I don't know how they would rank Dark over Demons though, Demons was superior in every way. Dark was Fantastic and all, but it had tons of issues. It might just be me noticing more being that I put hundreds of hours into each one but it still bothers me.

i agree demon souls is way better than dark . there is only one thing i wish that the jump feature was in Demon. The nexus is also the bomb lol. The world are both great but demon had so much more flavor in the look of the worlds in it

Yet again another first review for another big hit. this time Dark Souls II receives 90 out of 100 from a German magazine called M! Games. for comparison, Demon Souls got a 82% and Dark Souls 1 a 88% which makes Dark Souls 2 the highest rated Souls game from this specific magazine.

My guess would be they played Dark Souls first. In my experience most people who play Dark first like it more or think just because it came after it's better. I honestly like Demon Souls a lot more because the atmosphere was way darker, the bosses had puzzles elements, and having the Nexus there made the Lore of each area more dedicated to why they fell to ruin in the wake of the colorless fog being.

Thing I noticed is that Dark Souls 2 seems to be the gameplay and open world of Dark Souls but the atmosphere and bosses with puzzles elements of Demon Souls.

To be fair, you say most people like Dark Souls better because they played it first but the same could be said for most people that like Demon's better. Not to mention Demon's is a PS3 exclusive so you have console fanboydom clouding most people's judgement.

I loved both games, I bought a PS3 just to play Demon's in fact, but I just dislike it when people always put down peoples personal opinions to "well they just played it first". A big part of the games is difficulty so obviously that's true. Dark Souls was very difficult for me and took a time to complete, because I played it first, but when it came to Demon's I died only a handful of times in my playthrough and finished it way faster then I did Dark. The Flamelurker was the only boss that gave me any trouble at all, almost all bosses I got on my first try.

The atmosphere may have been darker but just being darker doesn't make it better. Demon's Souls tries to convey darkness, Dark Souls doesn't, it conveys a sense of loneliness and hopelessness, and preference on lore is again a matter of preference...

I guess most DS fans can agree on one thing that we all love both games even if we think one is better than the other...
and now I think we have the 3rd in the series where we wont be disappointed!

I think both are amazing. I played Dark Souls first but managed to play Demon Souls when it was free on PS Plus. If I were to pick one it would be Demons Souls. I just loved the atmosphere, the enemies and the difficulty more. But Demons Souls will never give me the nostalgic feeling Dark Souls gives me. The music that plays in Dark Souls hub area, god I love it

khellendros13711d ago

I agree and Demon Soul had better balance to me.

ravinash3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

I would have to agree that I prefered the overall feeling of dread you got from Demon souls. (yes I did play Demon Souls first)
But yeah, I loved both of them.

Can't wait to see wha they do with Dark souls 2.
It will keep my PS3 busy for a good while yet.

I disagree completely.

I used to think Dark was better than Demons (by a huge degree) simply because of its open level design. After going back to replay Demons Souls, there's just too much about the game that's awful. Like the 3-foot draw distance. Yikes.

Thanks for the share. Day one buy as well.

I must be one of the few that think Dark Souls is a lot better. Maybe not in every area, but the level design is phenomenal.

If you really pay attention, you'll be amazed how they managed to make such a huge area with many different sections they are connect to each other in some way.

I used to use that argument to prove prince of persia: warrior within was better than other pops, back in the day.

Like a 3D metroid.

A real 3D metroid.

Hugodastrevas3710d ago

Demon's souls started everything so that's that but Dark souls improved everything (specially the camera and lock-on system). The story was deeper the controlls were tighter and there was more variety all around. With that said, Demon's souls came first was exclusive, had events and won a lot of awards!

skeeter22753711d ago

And all I hope is that my demon/dark souls skills will carry me past the intro boss without dying the first time.

Oh PC version come out in March if not it will be a hell of a wait. I already have to wait 6-10 business days for my PC Black Armour Edition that I had to order from Europe

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6953d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer53d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville53d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
