Majin-vegeta3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Gotta love that PS4 power=)

What does scaling internally mean??

BigFnHooters3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

"I doubt the PS4 will have any problemd running it at 1080@60"

Graphically the engine doesn't look to be that impressive compared to how amazing the previous Metal Gears were when they were released on the PS1,PS2, and PS3. None of the previous titles were forced to cater to much weaker hardware like the 360.

Still, the power advantage of the PS4 over the Xbox One is huge:

1920x1080 is 2,073,600 pixels
1280x720 is 921,600 pixels

So the PS4 is running the game at 2.25 the resolution of the Xbox One.

Rig_Master3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Yeah, quite a letdown graphically. It looks like they pretty much just added some extra graphical effects to the last gen console versions for the PS4.

Too bad. Would have been nice to see what the game would have looked like if it wasn't targeting the lowest common denominator and could have used a real PS4 graphics engine.

Of course the big WTF is the Xbox One only being able to run at 720p. It is looking more and more like the Xbox One is closer in power to the PS3 than the PS4.

morganfell3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

The judging of the graphical quality will come in the live play and video rather than still shots.

This is the way it is going to be the entire geberation. The PS4 is game focused.

@BigFnHooters

Look at the disagrees. Some people obviously hate math.

LeeMajors3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

>Yeah, quite a letdown graphically. It looks like they pretty much just added some extra graphical effects to the last gen console versions for the PS4.

The entire game is going to be gimped by the fact that it is forced to run on the horrible Xbox 360 DVD format. All the world layout is going to be forced to run the same even on the crap 360 hardware. Which pretty much means that any PS4 additions are going to fairly minor and mostly window dressing.

xHeavYx3714d ago

Glad to see yet another game at 1080p on the PS4

thereapersson3714d ago

@ morganfell

Since when have logic, reason or facts applied on N4G?

@ heavy

Expect this to be the norm for most of the generation. The PS4 has the hardware to pull off 1080p with relative ease, and it will only get more efficient as developers learn more about the hardware. You'll probably start seeing more implementation of anti-aliasing or other enhancements.

morganfell3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

@thereapersson,

Rarely. If it did then more persons that claim to be gamer pure would be supporting the company that put gamers first.

I certainly agree with your predicition. Also these early developers are setting the precedence of not caring about parity and that is also paving the standard for this generation.

Sarcasm3714d ago

^Heavy.

There's only one non-1080p game on the PS4 and that's Battlefield 4.

vishmarx3714d ago

PS4 vs ps3 night and day.
xb1 over xb360.not much really

aaron58293714d ago

I honestly feel really bad for the xb1. The difference between 360 and 1 isnt that much (besides the fps) ... Must be because the resolution on both platform is the same.

The same can't be said when comparing the ps3 to the ps4. I clearly see the difference there.

morganfell3714d ago

@aaron,

This was a decision made by MS:

http://metro.co.uk/2013/05/...

Yet when the X1 version fails to rival the PS4 version, MS supporters - the very ones that MS abandoned in order to chase the Wii casual crowd - attack Sony supporters.

abzdine3714d ago

but... the cloud??

PS4 leads the way once more, and this game isn't even truly next gen. i cant imagine how it will be when devs will focus their ressources on PS4.

Please be excited

showtimefolks3714d ago

Rig_Master

you know if Kojima could he would. But its a business but truly its a shameful. I would love to see what Kojima can do on ps4 when he doesn't have to worry about xbox one

Majin-vegeta

funny thing is there are still those who deny the power of ps4 lol, where are the fanboys who said cloud would make xbox one more powerful.

pyramidshead3714d ago

Haha wow.

Didn't even think there would be disparity with this game but DAMN! XB1 owners getting that consistent short straw.

Next up: The Witcher, Watch_Dogs, and Thief all running better on PlayStation 4.

Cupid_Viper_33714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

As Liquid Ocelot famously said: "This...Is the victory we've won for ourselves."

The quote above might seem unrelated, but I think it suits perfectly. In my opinion, PlayStation gamers have always asked (demanded) that Sony put their best foot forward at all times. Hell, even the industry as a whole(unfairly)holds Sony to standards than the rest. (remember how 24pixels used to be a big deal when comparing multiplats?, and how PS3 exclusives where nitpicked?)

That is partly why we PlayStation gamers have online for Free on the PS3 and PS Vita, and why PS+ is so good, and why the PS4 is so well designed. So this "victory" is indeed one we've won ourselves.

But the Xbox camp has always been very reluctant to criticize Microsoft.(Try and criticize Ryse, or Forza, or Titanfall and see how quick you'll be labeled and insulted) They simply just accept and defend whatever decision Microsoft makes, whether it be right or wrong.

Just look at how the Xbox camp handled the pre-Xbox One-reveal rumors of always online, 24h check-ins, crazy DRM where you can't lend your friend your games, etc, every app behind a pay wall while they're free everywhere else, etc. The list of things that they accept goes on and on. And in the end, this is the result you get. You get a company who believes that you, as the core consumer, is secondary. So they thought they could LEND you and machine where you have to sign in every 24 hours, other forget about gaming. And they also decided that you don't really need much power under the hood nowadays http://metro.co.uk/2013/05/... .

Xbox fan to this day swears by Kinect, even when it is obvious to everyone else that nothing has been more detrimental to the XBox than kinect (project Natal) has. Even the RROD has helped the Xbox more than kinect has. Kinect represents a complete shift in focus for the Xbox division, and you guys got on forums and defended it with your lives.

You let a company get away with one thing, it only set the precedence for them push further and see what else they can get away with.

It is human nature really. Hell, there are very few companies who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to sell an inferior product at a superior price to their direct competitor, if they knew they could get away with it.

To the guys who supported Microsoft through the RRODs, Paying for Live while Bashing PS+, defending MS's policies to gimp 3rd party titles for parity, etc. To those guys, this "ONE" is on YOU! Enjoy it....

Cloudyday713714d ago

@BigFnHooters "So the PS4 is running the game at 2.25 the resolution of the Xbox One."

I'm not sure why some people are crowing just to justify their console purchase, most people won't be able to tell the difference. Also Xbox One balance means the experience will be the same on both platforms.

DEEBO3714d ago

The reason why GZ looks like last generation because it is that's why you have ports for the 360/ps3.

The phantom pain on the other hand is going to be x1/ps4 only so you will see major improvement.this guy is known to make hardware sing from ps1 to the ps3 metal gear games are always beautiful.

The real problem here is the x1 is having a hard time running 7 generation games at 1080p.
i like the xbox one but the only way i would buy a multiplatform game on it is if it's like titanfall but if i have a choice out of x1/ps4 it's ps4 because it's the better hardware for games.

johndoe112113714d ago

@cloudyday

Dat balance. What the hell does your statement even mean? Do you even understand what is happening here? Do you understand what it means that every multiplat is running significantly better on the ps4? Jesus, I guess ignorance really is bliss.

mewhy323714d ago

This is, and will be, a continuing pattern this gen. The power disparity between PS4 and xbone (got to be sure to use the right word for xbone, got 5 day restriction last time I used the wrong word LOL) is just going to make the gap grow wider and more pronounced.

Visiblemarc3714d ago

@Cloudyday 71 You're joking right? Please say that you don't use made up Xbox marketing terms in real life discussions...

As for people who are downplaying the ENORMOUS pixel count difference as described by BigFnHooters this has to stop.

I'm not a console fanboy BUT I am a logic fanboy. If one machine is pushing over 1.25 million more pixels you have to know the difference comes down to much more than 'just' resolution. The resolution difference is already enormous, anyone who says they can't see it is lying or needs glasses.

The difference in raw pixel pushing however can mean a major difference in what will run, period. Imagine going forward with games get more demanding (they will). 50% more power will mean a super complex game that can only run at 720/30 fps on Ps4 won't run at all on xb1. That DOES matter.

Is there anything wrong with owning/loving xb1? NO! But PLEASE stop bending logic itself to make it seem like a really clever purchase. I love my 3DS but I don't pretend it can touch the Vita in power. I just love it for what it is (and also own a Vita).

mantisimo3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

So I reckon Microsoft will start paying Devs to gimp ps4 versions next, sounds extreme and not a possibility at all?

Yet Watch this space if they can't have their exclusivity or multiplats on equal terms, how will they make up for the very limiting discrepancy in power.

This is a huge corporation out to make money and be the best in the market. Not happening though is it?

This gens multiplat fight could get dirty.

Thank goodness for ps4 and it's exclusives.

Hercules1893714d ago

Why is everyone saying theres not much difference between the X1 version and 360 version. The difference is just as clear between the PS4 and PS3 versions.

assdan3714d ago

Who still thinks the ps4 isn't twice as strong?

morganfell3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

@Cloudyday71

What about those X1 fans living in denial and quoting the worst of MS marketing to justify their purchases?

Wizard_King3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

It's official people.

DON'T BUY AN XBOX1, if you already have sell it before the thing goes Dreamcast on you.

Why buy an under powered piece of crap that doesn't even work properly?

Gaming1013713d ago

LOL @ all the articles coming out lately titled "The X-bone may actually win 2014" and "X-bone may win this entire generation"

They're so butthurt over this they're going to need some ass cream and vaseline.

mcstorm3713d ago

@Wizard_King its people like you who give gaming a bad name. Going off your comment you never owned a PlayStation console until the ps3 because the ps2 and psx were the lest powerful of there gen. Also if its all about power why even bother with a games console go and buy a pc as a high end one will walk all over the ps4.

As for the article it looks like the 3rd party games are going to be like this for a bit maybe all gen. Its something we will have to live with. I don't have an issue with it as I always get the games I want on the console I want it on and its not on who has the higher rez.

Looking forward to this game wanted a mgs game since I got 2 and 3 on my Psv.

AndrewLB3713d ago

M$ got seriously xbwn3d in this comparison. To be honest, I would have expected both consoles to do 1080p since these graphics are not very impressive.

Unspoken3713d ago

They probably didn't take the time to optimize it for the xbox if they choose 720p instead of some other odd number. I guess if the game sucks it really doesnt matter what console it is on. But it is 1080p on the PS4 and that is all that matters in life.

Sad... PS4 just made it to 1080p and can't even hit 60 fps after all this time when 4k is coming out. That AMD 265 is holding developers from producing high end graphical games.

Couldn't agree with you more man.

And I believe internal scaling is how the game is upscaled to a higher one. This means the console's built-in hardware upscaler is upscaling the it rather than a software.

Abriael3714d ago

It wasn't explained, but it probably means that the native resolution isn't 720p. It's actually upscaled to 720p. Just a guess, though. I actually sent a mail back to ask.

Nocando3713d ago

So now the X1 can't really do 720p either?

otherZinc3714d ago

This must be a port of a last gen game.

alb18993714d ago

It have to be side by side to see the difference........I don't play with two tvs.
I have an XONE and I dont plan to buy an ps4 until I see uncharted and god of war, I don't care that looks a little bit better in one or other.

zeuanimals3714d ago

That's cool, I own both consoles and I sure as hell am not getting the inferior version.

mark3214uk3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

i feel sorry for the x1 owners they shelled out the extra cash to what ms promised would be the better next gen console, and it turns out to be not much better than the 360, ms have let you down

720p or 1080p the graphics on them screen shots for the x1 are terrible,it looks like they had to compimise on graphics to get native 720p on x1

Rip-Ridah3714d ago

Now let's be real here. To say that the game looks "terrible" is a bit much. I am supporting the PlayStation brand only this generation and I know that the game on the Xbox doesn't look terrible. By comparison, sure the PS4 is MUCH better looking. But I can throw MGS 1 in my PS1 and enjoy it in all it's jaggy glory. Most previous posts are dead on, but to imply that the game looks terrible is too much.

mark3214uk3714d ago

@Rip-Ridah yes i agree teerible is a strong word and your right it doesn look terrible,i should of said it jsut looks loads better on the ps4 version

What was Larry saying about not letting the PS4 get away with 30% more power?

Well this is 125% more pixels... and this isn't the first time. This seems to be a reoccurring theme.

I'd really love to see Larry's explanation for his remark, but he knows he'd get absolutely slaughtered, even more so than last time, if he went back to neogaf.

SmielmaN3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

ITPython3714d ago

Not sure why they didn't do direct comparisons to the PS4 and XB1 with the same screenshots. But doing indirect comparisons the XB1 version looks a lot like the PS3 version.

But man oh man, PS4 version is the bees knees! Absolutely beautiful!

Unspoken3713d ago

Hmm, there is a clear difference as showcased by the screenshots at how much better the X1 looks compared to last gen, or is Sony making rose colored glasses to go with the PS4?

ITPython3713d ago

You are comparing the XB1 to 360 graphics, which I agree there is a big difference because the 360 just isn't that powerful.

But XB1 to PS3, not so much. PS3's graphics tapped out blows away 360 games and puts it fairly close to the XB1.

Abdou0233714d ago

Differences between Current vs Last gen. are in Resolution only, Not in polygons. Reminds me of that HD Remakes.

To clarify a little more on what a few have said about internal scaling. It means on last-gen consoles, the game will be rendered somewhere less than 720p, then just stretched up to 720p. It's the same process with some of the 900p games. If you have your console set to output 1080p when playing a 900p game, it just does a quick stretch up after the processing.

Apex133714d ago Show
curtis923714d ago

@ people talking about 'not a big graphic leap', keep in mind not only does the ps4 version run in 1080p and have WAY better textures and effects, but it's also running at 60fps. We all know it could look better if it was next gen only but it's still nice to see MGS go back to 60fps. I've missed it.

Soulsaber3714d ago

WitWolfy3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

WOW!! The fox engine sure is an awesome engine!! The last gen versions actually keep up with the NEXT gen counter parts.

I'm impressed! I was expecting a leap much like Last gen BF4 was to the next gen versions.

AnEwGuY3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Your logic is backwards. The fact that the last gen versions look so similar to next gen means no effort was put into this glorified tech demo on PS4/X1. Crysis 3 and BF4 for last gen even look better than this.

Neixus3714d ago

Totally agree.

Another example is all the titanfall guys who says that the xbone version looks so close to pc version, so powerful!
That just means that the pc version wasn't utilized to it's fullest.

CrossingEden3714d ago

MGS4 still looks good today(outside of the plastic anime faces) because Kojima puts in a shitload more detail than he needs to. To say that they didn't work their asses off to make all versions of the game looks good would be asinine. Not to mention the fact that the next gen versions run at double the framerate.

MysticStrummer3714d ago

"The fact that the last gen versions look so similar to next gen means no effort was put into this glorified tech demo on PS4/X1."

Which means it's even more embarrassing for XB1 to get shown up again.

Kryptix3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Next gen versions look a little more detailed, especially the terrain but here is where the problem lies. The fact that all versions look similar and the Xbox One version is running the game in the same resolution as it's older Xbox counterpart shows that:

1. The Xbox One has weak specs.

2. The eSRAM is a huge bottleneck, the design was a horrible choice to begin with.

...I believe it's both. No Xbox fanboy can make anything up at this point and be taken seriously. I hope the supporting of the Xbox One has the potential to do better than the PS4 dies down after this.

zeuanimals3714d ago

DDR3 is the bottleneck, eSRAM was just a poor fix. It's like fixing leaky pipes with Elmer's Glue.

press-start3714d ago

not trying to be a dik but wasn't this all ready expected.

Abriael3714d ago

It was and it wasn't. With all the promotion Kojima gave to the Xbox One by walking on stage and all, I kind of expected the studio to make an effort at least to keep resolution parity, maybe lowering other assets. Guess they didn't make it.

JEECE336d ago

Although there are notable exceptions (GTA, certain first-party Nintendo games, Gran Turismo), as a rule games didn't sell as much in earlier generations as they have in the past few generations. So a lot of PS1-PS2 era titles that are viewed as seminal games didn't actually sell all that much by today's standards (yes, despite the large install bases of those systems lol). I remember a similar surprised reaction happening a few months ago when Square announced the total overall sales of Final Fantasy VII.

Deathdeliverer336d ago

Some of the best fun you can have online was the first metal gear online and to a lesser, but still fun to an extent, MGO2. The magazine, CQC, stealth, and tactical play Vs real players is just a blast. Not to mention playing Snake vs everyone? Amazing. The game will never be the same without Hideo, but Konami can definitely update what’s already there and take my money.

Kojima looks back on Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on its 9th anniversary

Hideo Kojima: "After the launch, many people seemed to expect GZ to be a full game."

metalgearinformer.com
-Foxtrot395d ago

People would have gotten “your intention” if you stated it from the beginning but people didn’t want smaller episode like MGS games.

He should have just focused on MGSV and work Ground Zeroes into that game instead

I_am_Batman395d ago

I don't remember there being confusion over Ground Zeroes being a full game. But then again I was just starting to catch up on the MGS series as a whole at that point so I might've not paid enough attention or simply have forgotten that there was confusion about it. I bet the whole Moby Dick Studios thing didn't help the casual observer understand what the hell was going on though.

I only got both MGSV games when Phantom Pain was already out and I kinda agree that it probably would've sucked if I had to wait one and a half years to pay The Phantom Pain after Ground Zeroes.

jambola395d ago

I'm sorry what now?
Who expected that?
If it was meant to be episodic or an experiment for that, the price should / would have reflected that

MadLad395d ago (Edited 395d ago )

To be fair, there really wasn't enough content to actually justify even the smaller price tag. It was still half the cost of a full game, yet a 20th of the content.

I can't stand these paid glorified demos.

CrimsonWing69394d ago

Honestly, it was basically similar to the FF15 Duscae demo. My theory is he was taking too damn long to make a game and Konami was like, “Sell what you got!” It just has kind of a scummy corporate “let’s sell this demo for half the price of a full game,” feel to it.

That’s just my take on it. I love Kojima and I love the MGS series, but this and 5 were the biggest let downs, ever. Clearly unfinished work forced out because, in Konami’s defense, Kojima was going over budget and taking forever on the project.

MIDGETonSTILTS17395d ago

Lol, I loved Ground Zeroes, but releasing that level at $40 during a dryspell for games at the onset of the new gen was an obvious cash grab.

I handed over my money happily, but plenty of non-diehard fans were understandably letdown by the scale of what $40 bought them.

Chocoburger394d ago

The price was originally $40 for the physical PS4 and XBO versions, but due to controversy it dropped down to $30 before launch. And as much as I love GZ, and even bought it twice, I do agree that $30 was too much. It should have launched at $20.

https://kotaku.com/konami-c...

staticall394d ago

I don't know how about anyone else. But i've bought it for $20 1 week after release (or $15, don't remember the exact exchange rate) and spent 24 hours beating every mission and getting all the steam achievements. I was 100% aware what the game was about beforehand though and i did enjoy every second of it. I knew it was a work in progress and it was probably the best and less restrictive game i've played in a long time (and controls were just perfect).

Even previous MGS games didn't gave me that much freedom as Ground Zeroes did.
Love stealth? Got you covered.
Want to speedrun? Here's the timer.
Wanna kill everyone? No problem, grab that AK then and let's party.
Wanna cause chaos? Just tell Pequod where to land.
Love to drive? Then go ahead.
Miss Raiden? Then play as him.

I wish they would continue MGSV, finish remaining chapters and add more missions as DLCs, there was SO many options... A poor man still can dream...

Metal Gear Solid V Is The Greatest Stealth Game Ever Made

Hideo Kojima was dealing with a hostile publisher who was pulling his team’s game apart at the seams in order to launch in some form of finished state, and it’s still downright masterful. Everything about it is mechanically focused and aesthetically nuanced, and not a single thing feels out of place or without purpose. Big Boss moves about each environment with a pace that provides the perfect cadence to use all manner of gadgets in whatever ways you like.

Great mechanics and gameplay but it's just so dull....

I played it long after the hype had settled, and I had a blast with it. Strip away the disappointment over what it could have been, and you're still left with a great game

The gameplay loop was phenomenal, no question. From a gameplay standpoint it's an incredible stealth game.

"Hideo Kojima was dealing with a hostile publisher who was pulling his team’s game apart at the seams in order to launch in some form of finished state, and it’s still downright masterful."

Let's not pretend Kojima was entirely innocent there. The game was 5+ years into development, way over budget, and wasn't even halfway done. That's why Chapter 2 is so unfinished and Chapter 3 was scrapped entirely. He was wasting time micromanaging and second-guessing everything his team was doing, and little to no progress was being made. The same thing happened with MGS: Rising. That's why the game got rebooted as MGR: Revengeance and was handed off to Platinum. That's the only way the game was going to get finished. And yet after wasting millions on a scrapped game, MGR only went on to sell a little over 1 million units. It was a failure no matter how you look at it.

That's why Kojima was "locked away" in his office for the final 6 months of development of MGSV. So the team could actually piece together and finish the game. Was Konami just supposed to let Kojima spend more than a decade with infinite funds to make one game? Kojima isn't Rockstar, his games don't sell 170+ million units. At some point the game has to come out.

I get that Konami are a garbage company but they aren't solely responsible for what happened with Kojima. As much as I love his games and will always be a fan, MGSV was almost entirely Kojima's fault and I'm tired of people pretending that it wasn't.

Sounds like mismanagement by Konami.

Can you prove any of what you're claiming? Because I've seen Kojima build a studio and release a AAA game in 3 years with Death Stranding. All I'm seeing here are the same conspiracy theories that people like to believe to confirm their biases towards certain people, same with Neil Druckmann. For instance, MGSV may have been in development for a while but you leave out that he was also having the FOX Engine developed alongside it, an engine so good that MGSV ran at 60fps on a PS4.

He's gone on record disputing that he ever goes over budget on very rarely has to delay his titles.

"He was wasting time micromanaging and second-guessing everything his team was doing, and little to no progress was being made."

Where did you get this from?

Best gameplay of the series hand down, its not even close. Worst story in the series hand down, its not even close.

But that ending though with amazing music. The Man who sold the world.

I can’t say it’s the best or the worse to me I stopped playing metal gear at the end of 4 the official end of the snakes saga and the best in my book was 3 snake eater excellent gameplay and excellent story telling giving us the reason for big boss to go and create his own country before the metal gear saga on the 4-8 bits consoles.
