The GTA V Of JRPGs?

Kotaku: I've been playing a lot of Threes lately—to the point where every time I close my eyes I just see numbers sliding together—and all I can think is that it'd make for the perfect JRPG mini-game.

Can't you picture it? You're roaming around the map, saving the world or whatever, when suddenly this sketchy dude in a wizard's robe comes up and challenges you to a game of sliding number tiles. If you hit 1,000 points, you get an elixir. 10,000 points for special armor. 20,000 points to unlock your character's best ability. It'd be the greatest RPG mini-game since Triple Triad. Really, all video games should come with a copy of Threes. Sure beats racing chocobos. (If you haven't played Threes yet, be warned that it will take over your spare time, because it is addictive and polished and perfect in every way.)

Crosses fingers* X from Monolithsoft is the GTA Jrpg we've been waiting for!

tinparron3719d ago

It's looking like it very well may be. From gameplay videos (I don't actually own it yet), Xenoblade looks to almost be just that.

This new one actually has large bustling cities form the second trailer, so we may have what we've wanted pretty soon.

BattleN3719d ago

Agreed, Now I'm just waiting to hear about online multiplayer.
Sadly I missed out on Xenoblade on Wii so X will be a nice treat for me!
My last Rpg experience was FF9 which was made by Square and X developers are comprised of former Square staff so this should be a good outcome.
Last Story 2 hopefully is announced soon also!

tinparron3719d ago

YES!! Last Story 2 would be so awesome!

Don't know if you remember this ^ but if it ended up actually being concept art, hell.

Godmars2903719d ago

Doubtful. Looks like the PSO of Monster Hunter games, but it has yet to reveal any RPG aspects.

The last Star Ocean was likely as close a JRPG will come to being a WRPG to the degree GTAV is.

in response to your second comment, persona is not really a multiplatform series. there has literally been only three games in the series that weren't only on PlayStation.

- Revelations: Persona (PS1, PSP & Windows)
- Persona 4: Arena (PS3 & Xbox 360)
- Persona Q (Nintendo 3DS)

All the other ones have been PlayStation only. even Persona 5 is exclusive.

X is great and I'm waiting for it too, but being console exclusive means the market's going to be limited.
I say for JRPG to be giants like GTA it has to be multiplatform, meanwhile nowadays they tend to be Nintendo/Sony exclusives.

From what I see chances in the near future are:
1. KH 3
2. FF XV, if they delivers
3. Maybe if Persona/Zelda goes multiplatform?

Godmars2903719d ago

Persona is multiplatform.

Come to think of it, Persona is the closest thing a JRPG comes to GTA/open world.

It both isn't yet is, but also comes with many layers. Like the options to either fight, bribe, intimidate or even flirt with encounters.

Do you really want a jrpg with stupid plot and characters?

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
