He's overworking himself. He needs to take some time off, or have shorter shifts.
This is a common thing in Japan, they have a word for death from overworking.
They just work themselves too much. Hopefully he realises that he needs to take a rest.

-Foxtrot3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

No offence but why did he take on the console version AND the handheld version at the SAME time.

He should of just done the 3DS version next year or something...it's not like the 3DS needs Smash Bros. The Wii U needs it more and it would of been better to separate them so we get two Smash Bros experiences this year and next.

Not to mention both versions being the best they can be.

wonderfulmonkeyman3713d ago

No idea, but my guess is he really just loves the series that much.
He's showing dedication and passion above and beyond the call of a paycheck...

Geekman3713d ago

Knowing Nintendo, the 3DS version probably WILL be delayed until 2015.

WiiUsauce3712d ago

First time I'm agreeing with you.

StockpileTom3713d ago

karoshi was it? Dunno I'm rusty on that... Anyway I wonder what tendon is causing the problem. I know there is a non-essential wrist tendon that not everyone is born with but I doubt it would be that one...

I feel for the guy because tendons can really lay some hurt on you. I partially tore my left achilles tendon last May and I'm still recovering from it.

MNGamer-N3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

Why can't they shift some of the duties over to other designers? I'm sure he is not the only capable person working on the project? Workers' Compensation after this.

mohuzas3713d ago

They tried several times, that's why Namco is developing Smash, but Sakurai is stubborn

coolasj3713d ago

He won't let anyone else do it. For example, he himself is the sole authority on balance values. He has said before that he prefers to do it himself instead of explaining it to someone else.

He's burning himself out, and that benefits nobody.

linkenski3713d ago

He needs a LONG break after Smash 4 IMO. I don't want his gaming career to ruin his health because of his injury.

wonderfulmonkeyman3713d ago

Yeah, and during that down time, he could use it to train someone to see and do things the way he does them.
Hands-off training, of course.
That way he won't have to take on this kind of work load solo ever again...

persona4chie3713d ago

Yeah if the problem is getting so bad then he needs to take some time off, its just a video game if it needs to be delayed them so be it no game is worth sometimes life

Concertoine3713d ago (Edited 3713d ago )

Thats unfortunate. I met a guy on red dead once, he played xbox with one arm after losing the other in a car wreck. He had some way of operating the left triggers and glued a popsicle stick to the left stick which he operated with his chin.

I feel bad for Smash fans. Those guys have been trying to maintain the scene active for 20+ years and get nothing but hate from Nintendo.

RoseSapphire330d ago

Sakurai explains how he and Nintendo still don't understand how the internet works.

FTFY

Snookies12330d ago

Exactly, online play would be wonderful on Smash if Nintendo gave a crap about their online services. To be fair though, Nintendo's online offerings would be great if it were 15-20 years ago lol.

jambola330d ago

I've always said that Nintendo is either innovative and ahead of the curve
or 20 years behind, no in between

CrimsonWing69330d ago

I’m sorry, but if a game is MP then there’s no f*cking argument that can justify no online MP. What he says about competition being different from just playing with friends shows me how out of touch these people are.

It’s not until a new generation that understands things steps in to clean-house that we’ll see some evolution here.

Vanfernal330d ago

His argument is nonsensical. "You'd be limited to just playing people from your region". As opposed to being limited to playing people FROM YOUR COUCH!

CrimsonWing69330d ago

What I don’t get is how do you not have competition and experience the same issue if you have a friend that’s way better than you?

GoodGuy09330d ago

It's a big fighting game so online multiplayer is a must. Competitive smash is the only thing I see fun in these games anymore asides from the big character reveals, singleplayer is laughable and you ain't gunna have people over for couch gaming much.

If Nintendo makes a new smash, it needs a huge evolution for singleplayer/couch play to be enjoyable for me any more. But we all know they'll just do a deluxe edition for their next console lol. They really need to up their servers as well.

NotoriousWhiz330d ago (Edited 330d ago )

I can't imagine Nintendo producing a better smash game than ultimate. Roll it forward with a deluxe edition maybe with an extra character or two and call it a day.

Some other developers can try pushing platform fighters to the next level, because I don't think Nintendo is up to the task.

DarthZoolu330d ago

They already created a better smash brothers game than ultimate when they created melee

masterfox330d ago

he sounds more like is trying to justify Nintendo ineptitude to create a proper network infrastructure in order to Smash Brothers work properly online.

Xenoblade Chronicles X needs a remake when Switch 2 comes out! The game was fantastic, and it looked great! Better than most Switch games.

It isn't going to happen though. Monolith soft said "it is way too big", and would be too costly. I would absolutely buy that again, especially a remake or even a remaster.

Xenoblade Chronicles X should have sold better.

Sgt_Slaughter492d ago

One of the games I'm grateful that I found in-stock at GameStop before they quickly cleared nearly all pre-PS4/One/Switch games from their stores.

Nyxus491d ago

Perhaps if the series sold a little more on Switch, it would be worth it to do a port. If only some of those Pokemon numbers went to Xenoblade...

Sirk7x491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

I don't see how it would be too costly for them, when even a 1:1 Switch port would sell far better than the Wii U version ever did. It'd sell a million copies easy. Also, it is kinda crazy how good that game still looks.

GotGame818489d ago

X looks better than the Switch Xenoblade games.

Profchaos491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

Thank you homebrew community for breathing life into the system Nintendo spent years trying to forget.

One of my favourite systems for homebrew along with the Xbox, vita and ps2

Sirk7x491d ago

Huge library of great games with a modded Wii U. Virtual console, including injections, emulation, Wii U, Wii and Gamecube games with Nintendont on vWii.

FinalFantasyFanatic491d ago

Please port Xenoblade Chronicles X, I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet since everything else pretty much got ported to the Switch.

Playing Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in 2021

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch made playing Smash 4, on either system a thing of the past. But for today’s piece, I wanted to revisit the 3DS version of the previous generation of Smash Bros., to see how it holds up and see if time has changed my opinion on the first portable Smash Bros. game."
