No Brothers? That's a damn shame

abzdine3721d ago

bad list!!
how can Shawn from Heavy Rain not be in this list? the only time a death in a videogame really felt sad

Nerdmaster3721d ago

Did you let Shaun die? You're a bad father!

abzdine3721d ago

@Nerdmaster:
i platinumed the game and that makes me a good gamer :)

Picnic3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

What about Jason's 'death' though. His father Ethan clearly takes the full impact from the car. Ethan catches his son quite well as far as I recall. There's no way that Jason could have died and yet Ethan not been severely injured at the very least. Unless Ethan crushed his own son!

It took a few minutes later before it was confirmed to me that Ethan had definitely died.
Helium balloon rising is not yet the standard accepted code for 'former owner's spirit has necessarily followed the same path'.

*Spoiler*

Isara's death in Valkyria Chronicles scarred me for life.

PeaSFor3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

TLOU?

it wasnt sad, she went out like a BOSS, thats not sad but ballsy as fck.(to be honest, we rarely see such strong & ballsy females character in videogames)

AusRogo3721d ago

He may have been talking about ***SPOILERS***................ ...........Joels daughter? That almost made me tear up!

mewhy323721d ago

I think that one of the sadest deaths is the Wii-U.

Mutant-Spud3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

Nier was a sad story altogether, I'm a pretty hard case and even I had a lump in my throat at times.

ifistbrowni3721d ago

agreed. Sarah's death in TLOU should've made the list. Dom's death in Gears 3 was pretty sad, too (maybe it was more sad for me, i read the books).

But, Sarah's death made me tear up on the first playthrough. It's the most powerful prologue/section of a video game i've ever played.

It's odd b/c i was just on youtube showing my nephew some of the new video games coming out, he saw a picture of Ellie and said, "lets watch that video!" So, i let him watch the prologue section (he's 4, so i couldn't let him watch too much of it)... I teared up again (even after playing through 4 times and witnessing it numerous times, its still sad). Such a powerful scene.

Jihaad_cpt3721d ago

Sorry forgive my ignorance I haven't played Halo but wasn't Cortana a program or some kind of AI?

ThatEnglishDude3721d ago

You are correct. Her 'character' isn't really fleshed out and hardly deserves to be hailed as one of the saddest 'deaths' in videogames. Not considering the likely possibility she'll probably return in Halo 5.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming7d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing697d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno7d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming7d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5210d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens529d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK21219d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan9d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens529d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens529d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos10d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani9d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum10d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman10d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim10d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I disagree Batman
