So alot better doesn't surprise me still not paying 40$ for a two hour game.

ZodTheRipper3726d ago

Good to see Kojima taking advantage of the hardware.

Yi-Long3726d ago

I just hope it comes with an option to choose the original Japanese voices, with English subs.

It's 2014. There should at least be a CHOICE to pick the original Japanese voices.

Irishguy953726d ago

Can't we just have one final article saying

"All mutliplats will look better on Ps4"

Anyhow, can anyone link me to the length of Ground zeroes interview or whatever?? How do we know that? Pretty shameless but typical after MGS4 had about 5 hours of gameplay.

Akuma073726d ago

Yeah but at least MGS4 had about 5 hours of cutscenes to go with it. So it still felt like a journey!

Akuma073726d ago

Guys seriously, just wait till that extra 8% becomes available to Xbox One devs, they will blow the PS4 out of the water!

(I hope you all have your sarcasm detectors on!)

hulk_bash19873726d ago

Yeah I was pretty excited going in but after finding out its only 2hrd long. I'll probably just wait for the inevitable YouTube playthroughs.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr33726d ago

It's been 2 hours at least and that website still isn't working for me.

Peppino73726d ago

Not only taking advantage of the hardware, but also NOT LYING ABOUT IT FOR THE SAKE OF BEING IMPARTIAL!

Sarcasm3726d ago

I'm calling it here, PS4 version is 1080p while XONE is 900p.

indyman77773726d ago

Snap! 3RD parties are not just playing sales politics these days. They just admit it! Yeah it looks better on PS4 DUH! It's a superior graphics machines. Now hopefully xbox fans can stop saying PS4 does not have better graphics. This is a developer talking with a game that is on both machines!

mewhy323726d ago

This is awesoke. Devs pushing ps4 without worrying if the bone can keep up.

Mikeyy3726d ago

@Yi-Long,

Not going to happen. Don't you know how large the audio files are going to be? It's a Metal Gear Solid, there will be hours and hours of Audio, just for the English, Kojima filled a 50GB Blu-ray with MGS4, Hell easily do it again with 5, there simply isn't room to cram both English and Japanese audio.

abzdine3726d ago

Here it goes again! i keep wondering how it will be in 2-3 years

showtimefolks3726d ago

Irishguy95

http://kotaku.com/metal-gea...

also yes we can make one article stating the fact every game will look better on ps4, but what will be the fun in that. All current gen we had to hear it game release after game release how 3rd party games look better on xbox360

just like early ps3 doom and sony going our of business articles back in 2006

what goes around comes around. N4G once was run by xbox defense force but now the Darksiders have taken over lol

morganfell3726d ago

"Pretty shameless but typical after MGS4 had about 5 hours of gameplay."

http://www.badghill.pair.co...

Almost any game can be done in speed run fashion but that is no measure of actual play time. Plenty of MGS4 reviewers had play times, not including cutscenes, of over 18 hours depending on difficulty and play style. Fitz from GamesRadar had a combined time of 29 hours. OPM was over 19 hours without cutscenes. If you are going to jealously make something up about a game you never played at least get in the believability ball park.

teknx3726d ago

And our wallets... I'm pretty sure when the pricing of The Phantom Pain eventually comes out, I'll be called Broke Snake.

VENOMACR12273726d ago

Wow what a shocker. Games look better on the system with better specs and more power, geez who would have thought.

I hope every game that is multiplatform has awesome articles like this just in case everyone lived in a cave and didn't already know this. This isn't even news anymore, it gets old fast. But I guess it gets PS4 owners happy in the pants section.

Everyone already knows that games will look better on PS4, yet every time there's a multiplatform game there's an article.

Unspoken3725d ago

ikr, it's like saying PC graphics are better than consoles!!!

Breaking news!! PC fans rejoice, 1440p, 120 fps, new game will look better on PC! PS4 version to be cut down to 1080p and try to stay at 60fps with dips into the 30s, worse AA, lower res textures, poor shadow rendering, lighting will take a hit.

PC has better hardware than the PS4. Its good to see developers using all that extra power in PCs.

amiga-man3725d ago

To be fair saying it looked the same would potentially affect PS4 sales of the game as everyone would know they are not making the most of the PS4 hardware.

Saying it looks better is the least he should say

slimeybrainboy3726d ago

Sell it afterwards for $40, problem solved?

cellur1113726d ago

Except it won't sell for $40 used and once people start realizing it's 2 hours long the price will drop.

dcj05243726d ago

Take it back the same day. Buy it at 12:00 refund at 17:00.

Baccra173725d ago

Unless you're selling it for $10 dollars I'm not buying it. Those prices are ridiculous.

MRMagoo1233726d ago

We really should all not be surprised at all by this news , it will be the same for every single multiplat made, any game not running better on clearly better hardware will be called out. I mean if i had a pc with low specs and a pc with mid specs and they both had the same performance i would want to know what the hell was going on with the devs.

Deividas3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Agreed. F that. I was actually gonna buy this but as soon as i found out how short it is, have no interest in it unless one of my friends buys it, then ill just play that one. Hell no way buying this. You can make it as pretty as you want, still not gonna buy such a short game for that much.

Baccra173725d ago

Same here. Maybe Redbox will have this as a rental.

Lunarassassin3725d ago

Baccra17
Me too.
5 people could rent it everyday!

iiorestesii3726d ago

The cost of the Next Gen version of the game is $30 digital and $40 for the physical copy. $10 cheaper for each on PS3 and X360. It's a prequel to MGS V:The Phantom Pain. http://kotaku.com/why-metal...

Saigon3726d ago

Now that would make sense! Still a little too much for the 2-hour prequel. maybe it will get better buzz at 19.99.

Tru_Blu3726d ago

Hell, I can see this being a ps+ game in the next 6 months.

morganfell3726d ago

When a developer says 'slightly', well, we know all what that means.

iiorestesii3725d ago

@Saigon Agreed. That price would seem reasonable and fair. But then again, who knows. The game has yet to release and could be deeper than this suggests.

Jughead34163726d ago

Dang!!! It's $40? I didn't know that. Kojima even admitted that it's short. Why is it $40? I thought it would be like $15. Even that's a bit much for 2 hours. The Last Of Us DLC is $15, and I bet I can get 5-8 hours out of it.

jessupj3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

When most gaming journalist say "slightly" in reality they mean significantly.

At least if you consider 50% to 124% more pixels to be "slightly".

Normally developers never actually admit one version is better than the other. They always say some generic "our team has worked hard to bring you an amazing experience on both systems", which is understandable.

But the fact the kojima himself has come out and publicly admitted the PS4 version is better is very big news. It says to me developers are no longer scared of MS.

Angels37853726d ago

well Kojima and the Metal gear solid franchise.....did you see the MS press conference...MS would suck his *** for jsut about any reasn to get MGS to the xbox...

Kingthrash3603726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Plasticgearsolid3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

iiorestesii3725d ago

Exactly. Although a price cut on top of the fact has me wondering what to expect.

WitWolfy3726d ago

How do you know tis a two hour game?? Source please!

Meltic3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Wont be paying for the game too. Im gona Watch a youtube play instead for 2 hours. Save 40$ for infamous second son

moujahed3726d ago

Yea but I bet you will find a way to play it. Stop belittling this game as if it won't be the next best thing before summer. I honestly can't wait for anything Metal Gear related and even if the story is 2hours I am sure I will find plenty to do in the game.

Lamigol103726d ago

It's only a 2 hour game because it's on console .. if it was a PC game it would be 4 years long .. run at 50000 fps at 30k !!
Just thought I'd get that in before the "pointless geek" squad arrive !

MrDreadnought3726d ago

I agree with you, although it pains me to agree... I've been the outmost fan for MGS franchise since day one, but something's off with this...

Mr Pumblechook3726d ago

So the PS4 version is the gravy edition.

mkis0073726d ago

I think this should be the standard title for ps4 versions. The Extra Gravy Edition

Magicite3726d ago

lets get used that PS4 is and will be superior console for multiplats at least until next gen.

Syntax-Error3726d ago

Still doesn't look better than Blacklist. Snake's movements looked stiff from the demo. The guns have the same fabricated effects as the original

CertifiedGamer3725d ago

With all the cutscenes that means it's more like 30 min of gameplay

MEGANE3725d ago

ill w8 for it to be free with plus or a 50% discount.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3725d ago

He said Slightly Better, not "Alot" lol, god you fanboys!

ZombieKiller3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

I'll be picking this up on my PS4.

Even in a 2 hour story, I can spend hours in this open world. Use your imaginations guys! You're Snake FFS! BE SNAKE! Screw a 2 hour story, MGS4 was only 5 without the cuscenes but I have made gameplays last more than 40. I'll be doing that again here.

Just because it takes 2 hours to complete the story, doesn't mean the world will be empty with nothing to do.

I know once I complete it, I will be practicing with Snake for my Big Boss runthrough.

Matt6663725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

if you enjoy a game it doesn't matter how much to pay for it

come_bom3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

Microsoft really fu**ed up with the X1. Every multiplatform game will look better on a cheaper console (PS4) then the X1. This gen Microsoft will have to rely heavily on exclusives if they want a chance this console gen. They'll need much more exclusives then they had on the X360.

-Foxtrot3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

I don't really think at the present time he should be going on about this sort of stuff...he should be giving us a pretty good bloody reason why GZ is so much for less then two hours of gameplay.

It's pretty much cut content, imagine if the Tanker missions in MGS2 were DLC, thats how bad this is.

What has DLC come to these days...hell what have developers come to, the ones who get big headed after years of success....like Rockstar with the MT in GTA Online.

I mean at this time an Xbox One fan could go

"So...wasn't prepared to buy something which looks like cut content anyway. This gives me a bigger reason not to buy it"

Muffins12233726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Even though its 40 dollars and lacks content i feel like we will get more than usually with phantom pain for 60 dollars compared to other games and i feel like ground zero will feel more next gen than any other game on the ps4 like cod or assassins creed which are 60 dollar port from 360 and ps3......in now way am i saying 40 dollars is a good price,at most i think it should be 25.

cellur1113726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

It should be $5-10, a 2 hour game or should i say demo, isn't worth more than that.

bryam19823726d ago

cheap people I'll gladly pay 40$ for a kojima game thats like 2-3 hours of work pay :-P

jmc88883726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Ported from the 360/PS3?

You do realize they make a PC version of those games that has been far better then any console for many years now.

The new consoles are also based off of x86, aka PC's, unlike the 360 or PS3.

What you get on PS4/XB1 are PC ports.

The same can be said here.

Looks like it's a steam summer or winter sale purchase for me.

Syntax-Error3726d ago

Alan Wake: American Nightmare was cheaper than that and it was a 2 hour game worth the money.

mgszelda13726d ago

Imo as a whole DLC is an evil beast. Games used to reward u with better weapons and all kinds of bonuses for your hard work in a game not real life money. Capcom is usually the worst

ZombieKiller3725d ago

I blame activision. They started with the $15 COD map packs instead of the $5 it was in MW4. Capcom is monkey see monkey do. DmC and RE6 are good indications of that.

I do miss those days of unlocking things rather than buying.

Just today someone posted a comment about MGS:GZ saying "It's too short but thank god it will be good instead of some crap from Capcom (or someone else)"

All I could think to myself is we live in a day and age where people are grateful to have this sort of treatment. That is BAD. 10 years ago the world would have stopped.

DCfan3726d ago

I stopped buying games that have DLC, no matter what, i will not give them my money, not even Kojima as i am a hardcore MGS fan. You people should too, if we wanna end this trend, let games that support DLC bomb.

Joe9133726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Why not just not buy the DLC some stuff I can understand like outfits but new levels and or story content adds to replay value so I would not recommend this to punish all game companies because a few are getting greedy makes no sense. Also game's are costing as much as big budget films so why be mad they are trying to make a lil extra per game not like you have to buy it now when they start making you pay to unlock the last level so you can beat the game I would totally be on board.

DCfan3726d ago

@joe
These "Extra levels" should've been in the game all along.
I don't care how devs and publishers manage their budget, give me a complete product and i'll give you my money.

Frankly, most of these high budgets go into marketing.

SnotyTheRocket3726d ago

So, you skipped out on The Last of Us, Assassin's Creed, inFamous and many other great titles because you don't want to buy a game that will have DLC? Have fun with Mario Kart.

ZombieKiller3725d ago

I hate to say it DCfan....but you're only hurting yourself. EVEN IF, all of us agree with you (which I strongly do!) I will never deny myself some MGS content because I am a fan and would rather have more Metal Gear than more money....and I am not the only one that feels this way.
I agree with not supporting the greed, but they have something I want, and eventually I'll justify it to myself and pick it up.
I hate to admit, it's not a trend...it's here to stay. Don't buy it to support/not support it, buy it BECAUSE YOU WANT TO. You deserve it, it's your money :)

DCfan3725d ago

@zombiekiller
Justify it all you want, you're basically saying "Rob me all you want"
Im gonna buy the game, just when its under 20$, even if the game is good, i won't pay m money for an incomplete game.

@snoty
Yes, i missed on all of those, because why pay 60$ + all DLC which probably cost more than the game itself when i can buy the super duper edition for 20$ or less after a year.

Hercules1893726d ago

Which multiplat games have there been so far that have major changes between the two versions. BF4 you need a professional to look very hard and circle the differences to be able to tell them apart. Tomb Raider is above 30 fps on Xone and less than 60fps on PS4, closer than most ppl think. Also have you seen their demo of the Xone version, looks almost exactly the same as it should because we're getting an experienced team that knows how to use both systems

jessupj3726d ago (Edited 3726d ago )

Nope.

"Tomb Raider is above 30 fps on Xone and less than 60fps on PS4"

You just completely invalidated yourself with that statement. At absolutely no point on the xbone does the frame exceed 30 fps because it is capped at 30.

It's very easy to tell between 720p and 900p bf4 and there are numerous visual upgrades in Tomb Raider as outlined in the digital foundry article, it isn't just the significantly better frame rate.

Maybe you need to get your eyes checked, but I suspect they're perfectly fine and you're just an MS apologist trying to down play the significant multiplatform gap.

It's going to be happening this entire generation so I suggest you quit with the denial and deal with it or it's going to be a long 8 years for you.

Jumper093726d ago

I can clearly see the difference between a 900p game upscaled to 1080p game or 720p to 1080p...
And BF4 runs way better on PS4 performance wise.

Tomb Raider is worse on Xbone, less texture details, awful performance, drops to 900p in some cutscenes the list goes on.

Fact: They dont look the same if you are not completly blinded by fanboyism

ambientFLIER3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

jessupj -

Sorry, but you're wrong. The Xbox version isn't capped at 30fps. Digital Foundry did an analysis and it runs up to 45fps in some places without much action going on.

Neither version is capped and both vary and drop frames on occasion.

glenyc303726d ago

great time to be a loyal ps customer.. ps4 is clearly ahead of the game(console wise)

ChasterMies336d ago

I would love to buy MGS4 but it’s still a PS3 exclusive.

JEECE336d ago

Although there are notable exceptions (GTA, certain first-party Nintendo games, Gran Turismo), as a rule games didn't sell as much in earlier generations as they have in the past few generations. So a lot of PS1-PS2 era titles that are viewed as seminal games didn't actually sell all that much by today's standards (yes, despite the large install bases of those systems lol). I remember a similar surprised reaction happening a few months ago when Square announced the total overall sales of Final Fantasy VII.

Deathdeliverer336d ago

Some of the best fun you can have online was the first metal gear online and to a lesser, but still fun to an extent, MGO2. The magazine, CQC, stealth, and tactical play Vs real players is just a blast. Not to mention playing Snake vs everyone? Amazing. The game will never be the same without Hideo, but Konami can definitely update what’s already there and take my money.

ceyoga336d ago

You wouldn't be talking about the OG MGO that was included with MGS3:S would you? It's rare running into another former player. Those were some of the best memories of any online game I had.

Yes my man!! That seems like the BEST game that nobody played! Tranquilizer pistol, drag the body to a corner and lay a girly mag right by their head so they wake up and instantly get caught by the mag. Kojima looks back on Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on its 9th anniversary

Hideo Kojima: "After the launch, many people seemed to expect GZ to be a full game."

metalgearinformer.com
-Foxtrot394d ago

People would have gotten “your intention” if you stated it from the beginning but people didn’t want smaller episode like MGS games.

He should have just focused on MGSV and work Ground Zeroes into that game instead

I_am_Batman394d ago

I don't remember there being confusion over Ground Zeroes being a full game. But then again I was just starting to catch up on the MGS series as a whole at that point so I might've not paid enough attention or simply have forgotten that there was confusion about it. I bet the whole Moby Dick Studios thing didn't help the casual observer understand what the hell was going on though.

I only got both MGSV games when Phantom Pain was already out and I kinda agree that it probably would've sucked if I had to wait one and a half years to pay The Phantom Pain after Ground Zeroes.

jambola394d ago

I'm sorry what now?
Who expected that?
If it was meant to be episodic or an experiment for that, the price should / would have reflected that

MadLad394d ago (Edited 394d ago )

To be fair, there really wasn't enough content to actually justify even the smaller price tag. It was still half the cost of a full game, yet a 20th of the content.

I can't stand these paid glorified demos.

CrimsonWing69394d ago

Honestly, it was basically similar to the FF15 Duscae demo. My theory is he was taking too damn long to make a game and Konami was like, “Sell what you got!” It just has kind of a scummy corporate “let’s sell this demo for half the price of a full game,” feel to it.

That’s just my take on it. I love Kojima and I love the MGS series, but this and 5 were the biggest let downs, ever. Clearly unfinished work forced out because, in Konami’s defense, Kojima was going over budget and taking forever on the project.

MIDGETonSTILTS17394d ago

Lol, I loved Ground Zeroes, but releasing that level at $40 during a dryspell for games at the onset of the new gen was an obvious cash grab.

I handed over my money happily, but plenty of non-diehard fans were understandably letdown by the scale of what $40 bought them.

Chocoburger394d ago

The price was originally $40 for the physical PS4 and XBO versions, but due to controversy it dropped down to $30 before launch. And as much as I love GZ, and even bought it twice, I do agree that $30 was too much. It should have launched at $20.

https://kotaku.com/konami-c...

staticall394d ago

I don't know how about anyone else. But i've bought it for $20 1 week after release (or $15, don't remember the exact exchange rate) and spent 24 hours beating every mission and getting all the steam achievements. I was 100% aware what the game was about beforehand though and i did enjoy every second of it. I knew it was a work in progress and it was probably the best and less restrictive game i've played in a long time (and controls were just perfect).

Even previous MGS games didn't gave me that much freedom as Ground Zeroes did.
Love stealth? Got you covered.
Want to speedrun? Here's the timer.
Wanna kill everyone? No problem, grab that AK then and let's party.
Wanna cause chaos? Just tell Pequod where to land.
Love to drive? Then go ahead.
Miss Raiden? Then play as him.

I wish they would continue MGSV, finish remaining chapters and add more missions as DLCs, there was SO many options... A poor man still can dream...

Metal Gear Solid V Is The Greatest Stealth Game Ever Made

Hideo Kojima was dealing with a hostile publisher who was pulling his team’s game apart at the seams in order to launch in some form of finished state, and it’s still downright masterful. Everything about it is mechanically focused and aesthetically nuanced, and not a single thing feels out of place or without purpose. Big Boss moves about each environment with a pace that provides the perfect cadence to use all manner of gadgets in whatever ways you like.

You are incorrect and I will be taking this time to correct you. The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker Forsaken Fortress is stealth that no game has yet to match. Having Link, crawl, sneak and hide under a barrel is innovative stealth that Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, Thief and Tenchu wish they had achieved. I rest my case.

Chard567d ago

I played it long after the hype had settled, and I had a blast with it. Strip away the disappointment over what it could have been, and you're still left with a great game

porkChop567d ago

The gameplay loop was phenomenal, no question. From a gameplay standpoint it's an incredible stealth game.

porkChop567d ago

"Hideo Kojima was dealing with a hostile publisher who was pulling his team’s game apart at the seams in order to launch in some form of finished state, and it’s still downright masterful."

Let's not pretend Kojima was entirely innocent there. The game was 5+ years into development, way over budget, and wasn't even halfway done. That's why Chapter 2 is so unfinished and Chapter 3 was scrapped entirely. He was wasting time micromanaging and second-guessing everything his team was doing, and little to no progress was being made. The same thing happened with MGS: Rising. That's why the game got rebooted as MGR: Revengeance and was handed off to Platinum. That's the only way the game was going to get finished. And yet after wasting millions on a scrapped game, MGR only went on to sell a little over 1 million units. It was a failure no matter how you look at it.

That's why Kojima was "locked away" in his office for the final 6 months of development of MGSV. So the team could actually piece together and finish the game. Was Konami just supposed to let Kojima spend more than a decade with infinite funds to make one game? Kojima isn't Rockstar, his games don't sell 170+ million units. At some point the game has to come out.

I get that Konami are a garbage company but they aren't solely responsible for what happened with Kojima. As much as I love his games and will always be a fan, MGSV was almost entirely Kojima's fault and I'm tired of people pretending that it wasn't.

Sounds like mismanagement by Konami.

Can you prove any of what you're claiming? Because I've seen Kojima build a studio and release a AAA game in 3 years with Death Stranding. All I'm seeing here are the same conspiracy theories that people like to believe to confirm their biases towards certain people, same with Neil Druckmann. For instance, MGSV may have been in development for a while but you leave out that he was also having the FOX Engine developed alongside it, an engine so good that MGSV ran at 60fps on a PS4.

He's gone on record disputing that he ever goes over budget on very rarely has to delay his titles.

"He was wasting time micromanaging and second-guessing everything his team was doing, and little to no progress was being made."

Where did you get this from?

But that ending though with amazing music. The Man who sold the world.

I can’t say it’s the best or the worse to me I stopped playing metal gear at the end of 4 the official end of the snakes saga and the best in my book was 3 snake eater excellent gameplay and excellent story telling giving us the reason for big boss to go and create his own country before the metal gear saga on the 4-8 bits consoles.
