This is garbage....172 italian high school students ranging from 13-19 as your sample? Did they even bother considering age as a factor of candy consumption?

typoknight3724d ago

There were two groups in the study. One group played violent video games and the other group played nonviolent groups. All people in both groups were age 13-19. The group that played violent video games ate more than three times as much candy while playing the game.

xPhearR3dx3724d ago

This is an extremely stupid "study".

Who's to say the people who played the non-violent games don't like M&Ms, or candy for that matter. What was the average weight of each participant, did they use regular M&M's or Peanut M&M's? Because I don't care if I played Hello Kitty, put a bowl of Peanut M&M's in front of me say their Free, and I'll eat the shit out of them. Won't go near a regular bowl of M&M's with a 10 foot pole though.

That's because violent games make for hungry work...

theDivision3724d ago

You still miss my point. 172 is a ridiculously small size for any kind of legitimate findings. Secondly what was the age variation in the study, what percentage ate 3 times more? Did the people of all ages in the violent video games consume more? Were the people in either group overweight? There are tons of variables that could contribute to increased consumption of candy that aren't even mentioned.

What classifies as 3 times more? Did the nonviolent video game group only eat 50 m&ms on average while the violent ate 150? because either is such a small number to not matter. What consoles was this performed on? If I am playing COD I will eat more than playing Wii sports just because my hands will be more free. Just overall a poor job.

prob due to higher stress levels and intensity; candy, especially chocolate, kinda counteracts that by releasing oxytocin (love drug that i think has something to do with dopamine levels). ppl tend to eat more junk when they are stressed, aggravated etc. just from what i understand and experience. me eating healthy makes me less stressed and i eat a lot less junk in general. i smoke an Ecig, and nicotine is a stimulant that also increases dopamine levels from the pleasure; i most certaintly smoke it a lot more when playing more intense games like RE, pinball, fps etc. the study should focus more on the actual games and genres than the type (i.e. just "violent" games..). teas, garlic and lemon are all super ingredients imo and should be incorporated in everyone diet, unless you have ulcers.

@the division- its just a small study, not really too much to be worked up about. im not saying its pinpoint accurate but im sure the intensity levels have something to do with their findings. i believe if some subjects played a non-violent hardcore strategy game it would have a similar outcome. not enough testing to really say tho.

Another flawed yet pointless study that fails desperately to prove violent video games are harmful to ones health. Just give up already because thousands of respectable institutions have proven the benefits of video games.

I actually think this is pretty interesting. I get that the number of participants used for this study is pretty short, but it's still an interesting observation.

Imagine being so rich that another Billion is just not worth the hassle... LoL :) -Sorry just can't relate...

thorstein156d ago

Reminds me of the story of some ultra rich d-bag that had so much wine that he couldn't possibly drink it all so he had to sell like 10 million dollars worth of it. No one has earned that much wealth without exploiting others.

Roarke156d ago

Thats not true.. there are ppl who for example discovered cure are super rich due patent..

Cacabunga155d ago

A GTA movie will end like a fast and furious.. omg one of the worst movie series ever..

Notellin155d ago

@Roarke The scientist that discoveres the cure doesn't become rich. The patent will belong to Lilly, Pfizer, Merck, or Roche.

The money made is then disseminated amongst the executive board members and administration teams who provide zero value to the company. The scientists will continue to be exploited receiving raises and bonuses that do not beat inflation.

Again exploiting others in order to become rich.
