The PS4 has launched in Asia before Japan, creating a quite unique situation for the brand, and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Deputy President Hiroyuki Oda and Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan General Manager Tatsuo Eguchi told Game Watch that things are going quite well.
PS Vita will be manufactured until 2019 in Japan and there are currently no plans for a successor, Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president Hiroyuki Oda told Famitsu at Tokyo Game Show 2018.
“Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device,” Oda said. “In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end.”
In related news, Oda confirmed that the 20 titles in the newly announced PlayStation Classic will differ between Japan and the west. (All of the currently announced titles are shared, however.) Oda said that each title is being carefully selected on the basis that it is highly popular, has a lot of fans, and is representative of PlayStation.
That would make Sony’s run in the portable market 15 years cuz I doubt Sony would release a successor.
It was a wild ride while it lasted. Seemed like yesterday that Sony announced their intention to challenge Nintendo’s dominance with handheld gaming.
One of my fave handhelds ever. Sad to see this but hung in there a good while. I still play mine often.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Asia president Hiroyuki Oda recently sat down for an interview with Nikkei, where he gave his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch's success, and the Chinese market.
Funny how he actually mentioned Animal Force from China Hero Project but didn't mentioned as well The Walker? I mean, was The Walker really that barebones that everyone just forgot about it?
Anyway, the quality of chinese games has been so far mediocre at best, with Icey, Shio and Light Tracer being the true best ones on the system. I think what saddens me about China Hero Project is taht the only game people seems to care is Lost Soul Aside which is fine but it really saddens me that barely anyone are even caring on the other ones like Hardcore Mecha and Project Boundary (Kill X and Pervader looks 'meh' in all honesty). Though, I guess you could easily compare this slew of mediocrity to the first gen VR games, so I guess we have to wait maybe one or two more years until China can be on par with Japanese and Western developers. Heck, while Animal Force may not be great, you can say the same thing with one one of the launch exclusives of almost every consoles (and hey, at least it's playable and kinda fun at times). So I'm glad that Sony does acknowledge the trials they have to go to achieve chinese developers' skills on console games, even if it doesn't turn out so well with some of their titles.
The reason why I'm complaining about this is because chinese games like The Walker, Unearthing Mars (not the sequel), Dying Reborn, Gene Rain and Ranch Planet aren't really helping showing the true talent of chinese developers, other than telling us that they can make games look pretty.
Also, just a heads up, I'm not bashing on chinese devs nor sony's support on it. I just wanted to share my concerns.
And god dang, isn't this a wall text of a post?
I'm glad that Sony is still supporting chinese devs, even if most of the games we recieved on the PS4 from chinese devs were average at best (Icey was good though).
And this may be just me but I really want to see Sony make their own Switch-like Playstation console. I mean, who wouldn't want to play games like Bloodborne or MH World on the go?
Sony executives take the stage at Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the local branch of PlayStation.
Yep. It's welcome for the last position on charts. Sony has always dominated MS on Asian territory. It's not going to change now that they dominate everywhere lol.
PS4 winning Asia is a no-brainer.
Gee, thanks so much Sony for allowing MS to compete. Talk about hubris.
But Nintendo wont allow either of them HAHAHAHAH!!!
Sony domination everywhere
