With the Wii-U pretty much being a "secondary console" at best and the Xbox One dead in the water everywhere except NA and the UK, looks like Sony is going to have their third steamroll generation.

I don't even see a need for an article stating this. Why? Because you would have to be blind to not think the PS4 is selling literally as many units as Sony can manufacture.

I have been scanning the net the past week now trying to score a PS4 for a friend and up until yesterday I always just seem to miss getting one. The XBOX ONE on the other hand has been on various sites and stores shelves the past several days. Not for minutes or hours but days. I can walk into Best Buy, WalMart and Target right this minute in my area and walk out with an X1.

Best Buy in my area just listed PS4's today so I scored one there. Purchased it online and went in and picked it up. Nobody else in my area has PS4's. I was out shopping most of the day today and I could've scored more XBOX ONE consoles than friends I know that game. That's not fanboy speak, that's reality.

MS will be forced to drop the price with these sales. It will be 400 dollars in a few months. They either make it work without the Kinect and drop that or take a big hit on every sale and keep it. Either way that price drop is coming very soon.I'm guessing a couple of months after Titanfall launches unless that game is SO GODLIKE it makes the bone to fly off the shelves......which is highly doubtfull for a new IP to do.

We'll see.

First lets congratulate both Sony and Microsoft for an amazing end to the year. I am loving my PS4 and I bet everyone who has a XB1 is loving theirs too. Someone has to come out on top in sales and with a lower price and more focus on games its Sony at the moment but well done to both. Impressive sales figures all around.

But I have to agree with the article. Just this morning - 6:00am - I was at a large Sainsbury's supermarket and they had 11 XB1s for sale but were completely sold out of PS4s. The assistant told me all PS4s just fly whenever they are in.

As oppose to zombie stats?? This one is a public store and using there accounting system to show there unbiased data. Sony or Microsoft didn't tell Amazon to say how many units they have in stock.

So this not a rumor. PS4 is outselling X1 by a wide margin. And judging from the graph, it's more than 3 to 1 when you account the slope and the multiple skus. Just from my estimates on the slopes of the line, the ratio is actually closer to 7:1. The 3:1 was derived soley from the PS4 launch edition line.

The PS4 on the other hand constantly goes out of stock. And that shows because when you go to PS4 system pages all you see is "available from these sellers".

Using a trusty measuring device and a calculator to extrapolate the graph into actual real world numbers, this shows the following data:

PS4 sold 1922 total units between 14:21 and 17:33, which comes out to 9.02 per minute.

Xbox One sold 266 units between 15:18 and 17:34, which comes out to 1.96 per minute.

During the time frame when both consoles were available at the same time (15:18 to 17:33), the PS4 sold 1091 units and sold out (compared to 266 for the Xbox One, with 162 remaining unsold).

This isn't just normal demand, its record breaking (literally). Demand like the demand for the PS4 is a double edged sword though.

You haven't been following that the PS4 has been in the #1 spot since Friday with the arrow pointed up half of the time. Also all 4 skus are sold out currently. That easily negates your "MS supplying a steady stream" comment.

While X1 on the graph has never been #1 since they launched and the graph indicates that sales plateaued because their line never crosses zero. If X1's demand were even close to the PS4's demand it would sell out in a timely fashion, but instead even with considerbly less supply it sells out at a considerable slower rate.

That was a different scenario. PS3 outselling 360 eventually actually supports the PS4 more because the PlayStation brand and exclusives basically won the console war last generation. Now the PS4(PlayStation brand) being the cheaper system while coming out at the same time as X1 and with more exclusives. PS4 is in better position than PS3 was ever in.

Great news for Sony. It looks like they are finally reaching a point where they are meeting demand... At least in the US. I just finished some Christmas shopping, and there were quite a few ps4s on the shelf. A lot of people will be happy on Christmas morning.

I'm not sure why we keep getting these ps4 vs xb1 sales articles. They are both doing historically well, but more importantly, 2014 looks to be AMAZING, regardless of which console you have (and even more so if you have both. If. 3:1 is a actual ratio, then we might see a price drop to go along with the xb1 titanfall release... Gotta love healthy competition.

What it shows to anyone with more than 3 functioning brain cells, admittedly that counts out quite a few people on this site is that the Amazon is receiving far less consistent stocking of the PS4. Thus you have a pent up demand that all jumps at once as soon as it becomes available. There is absolutely nothing new here at all. MS is not experiencing as much pent up demand because they have managed to maintain a far more consistent supply of their consoles.

This is akin to having 2 water fountains, one supplied by a pipe with consistent water flow and one being supplied by a water bucket.

With the fountain supplied by a pipe everyone gets a drink in a timely fashion and you don't end up with a huge line up.

With the fountain supplied by the bucket you have people waiting for a drink. Once the bucket supplies the fountain you get a mad dash and chaos at the fountain until the bucket runs out. Then another crowd forms waiting for another mad dash when the next bucket shows up.

This is simply economics people. Supply and Demand. You cannot measure one without the other. Each of the variable supplies the needed contrast to provide proper perspective and analysis of the data.

Simply put if you do not know what your true available supply is then you do not know what your true demand is.

According to the estimate Ps4 was #1 only by 200k. I still have to find an evidence that ps4 is outselling one 3:1 or 4:1 in the U.S. .

Sony hasn't released NPD numbers for well over a year now. 3 years ago, NPD actually stopped releasing console sales numbers on their own, and instead only list the top 10 software title sales. A company could opt to release their own NPD numbers though. MS is the only company that opted to do so, probably since NPD is a US company, it made them look good, since MS dominant territory is the US.

I do believe NPD still issues monthly reports on console sales, but detailed numbers aren't usually given unless it's an overall number. Usually just comparison data with increases and decreases in actual sales. From these reports, and other information given by other sources, the actual numbers can usually be figured out for each console.

I love Sony as much as the next core gamer, but right now I don't think the PS4 is out selling the xbone 3 to 1.

I could be very wrong, however, considering how many markets the PS4 has been released in.

In any case I think the ratio will definitely be 3 to 1 is Sony's favour in a year or a bit more.

I thought there would be many more blind people lining up to buy an xbone, easily forgiving MS for the draconian DRM there tried to enforce on consumers, but the huge demand for the PS4 has proved that to be false and it warms my heart to see Sony getting the support they deserve after they were for the gamers from day 1.

I honestly can't comprehend how people like you, belking, can defend MS so blindly and viciously when they obviously have no passion for gaming what so ever and purely see it as a way to extract money from consumers.

I think it's great that both consoles are selling well. Us gamers need competition within the console market so that both Sony & MS push their exclusives to be the best gaming experiences possible.

Nowhere does it say XBone is selling badly, so get over it PS Fanboys, the PS4 is just selling so incredibly well, but that is not saying that XBone isn't doing really well also. Both are more than healthy in sales.....Wii-U is the worry, as I own one, as well as PS4, & I fear the machine may see an early end, as it just isn't attracting the games needed to sell to the masses.

I really hope PS4 keeps smashing sales, as I want a return to the PS1 & PS2 days, as those 2 consoles, (especially PS1) are the 2 best consoles EVER, due to the masses of quantity & quality titles they had.
I really want to see Sony be able to get back some of the 1st party studios that had to be killed off.... Lightbox Interactive, London Studios, Team Soho, San Diago Studios, Cambridge, Zipper Interactive, etc, etc, are just some of my faves, that were responsible for awesome titles like, Warhawk, Medievil, The Mark Of Kri, Primal, The Getaway, Wipeout, Rollcage, Syphon Filter, Jet Moto, Twisted Metal, etc, etc.....I want these days back. Something does not feel right about Microsoft right now... they seem to be showing their true colours with all the dishonesty and screwing gamers over by trying to force DRM, day one updates and broken disk drives that cause early adopters to send back their console to get a used or refurbished one instead, some refurbished Xbox Ones are reported to be in dire condition too! It's seems to be another RROD fiasco except this time the issue revolves around poor Blu-ray drives.

I lost faith in MS, they should just stick to software instead of hardware because they clearly don't know what they are doing.

I know I'm not alone when I say that I've got a feeling MS are lying about a lot of things such as sales figures and putting out other false info... They are lying about Kinect on how well it actually performs. Kinect is not as good as MS have claimed. Kinect 2 is great when it works which is what a lot of people are saying. I've heard the voice recognition is actually better on PS4's camera check the link below for that comparison.

Now this is my take on the actual situation backed up by personal evidence and evidence from other retailers.

You can hardly find a PS4 anywhere now.. I live in the UK and its has sold out almost everywhere. I can't get a PS4 until next year now because they have sold out. I pre-recorded a PS4 at GAME in November and got told I probably won't get a PS4 until early 2014.

Game told me in store that Phase 1 customers will get their PS4 pre-orders at launch. Phase 2 are for people who pre-ordered and will get their PS4 in time for Christmas which leaves Phase 3 which is pre-orders that will be forthfilled after Christmas leading into 2014.

Xbox Ones from my experience are in fact a lot easier to get a hold off. GAME themselves seem to be getting more and more stock. I've spoken to various GAME staff that have told me, some people are actually bringing back Xbox One's because they are disappointed with it or their system is actually broke. HDMI-In on Xbox One has no use in the UK at the moment for people with cable and more and more people are cutting their cable subscriptions because everything can be streamed online these days even through the very consoles themselves such as iPlayer etc...

I've read online that some retail stores are swapping broken Xbox Ones for new unopened ones such as Best Buy: http://www.newsforshoppers....

How can companies swap out broken Xbox Ones at retail stores if they are so few in number? Which to me proves Xbox One has not sold as many numbers as Microsoft's PR claim.

I'm a sales advisor for Maplin, only been there for about 3 months. Maplin, in case you don't know are an electronic specialist retailer that have stores all over the UK. Maplin have managed to get a hold of Xbox Ones at head office for us to sell to our customers but they have not managed to get hold of any PS4s which leads me to believe that MS have not sold as many XBONE's as they claim.

Then I've read online that Microsoft have claimed that Xbox One sold out worldwide yet the retailers that sell their new console beg to differ!
